Times Have Changed
"I'm being self-indulgent!?" Simon Yu's eyes widened. "Nonsense! I clearly heard you mention my name outside just now—more than once!"
So what if I mentioned you? Isn't a name meant to be called by others? Just saying your name doesn't mean I'm speaking ill of you!" Martin Wu shot back immediately.
Seeing Simon Yu and Martin Wu about to start their daily bickering, Princess Jade Hayes rubbed her forehead and shooed them out: "Peony needs to rest. Take your quarrel outside."
Princess Jade Hayes managed to send those two out, but Sean Hayes was harder to stop.
The emergency was over now, and Sean Hayes couldn't wait to come in and see Peony. The moment he saw her pale, sleeping face, his eyes brimmed with tears, as if he'd suffered the miscarriage himself.
"Stop crying. Peony just took her medicine—she's out of danger now," Princess Jade Hayes said.
Sean Hayes wiped his tears, then squatted by Peony's side like a big loyal dog, refusing to leave.
Princess Jade Hayes pursed her lips. She'd wanted to ask Peony what really happened with her fall while she was awake.
But now, seeing Peony uncertain when she'd wake up, and Sean Hayes unwilling to leave, Princess Jade Hayes figured she wouldn't get any answers for a while.
"Princess Jade Hayes, you're busy with official duties. Now that Peony is out of danger, I'll take care of her. No need to trouble yourself further." Sean Hayes turned to look at Princess Jade Hayes.
He knew Princess Jade Hayes was always swamped with work, running around like a spinning top every day. If she made time to visit Peony, it was only because she truly cared for her.
Now that Peony was out of danger, Princess Jade Hayes didn't need to linger.
After thinking it over, Princess Jade Hayes realized she wasn't much help here, so she asked Belle to send a few capable maids to assist Sean Hayes in caring for Peony.
Princess Jade Hayes stepped outside and found Simon Yu and Martin Wu still squabbling in the courtyard, like two fighting roosters, neither willing to back down.
Princess Jade Hayes couldn't help but laugh—these two troublemakers always exploded the moment they met.
Seeing Princess Jade Hayes come out, Martin Wu dashed over. "Princess Jade Hayes, you have to back me up! I just told Simon Yu we're opening a medical college, and we'll admit both men and women. He didn't believe me!"
Simon Yu crossed his arms and scoffed, "Martin Wu, do you really think Princess Jade Hayes would lie for you? Women studying medicine? Please. Those delicate girls faint at the sight of blood and scream at needles—what could they possibly learn?"
"Pfft! You just saw me covered in blood—did I faint!? And needles? Hand me one, and I'll turn you into a pincushion right now!" Martin Wu glared, eyes wide.
Princess Jade Hayes couldn't help but laugh—they were at it again!
Princess Jade Hayes quickly spoke up: "Enough arguing. The medical college is real. I'm planning to put Martin Wu in charge. Martin Wu, go to the Public Works Department and find Minister Nathan Ye. Tell him we're building the medical college in Charleston. It'll be a branch of the comprehensive university, alongside the Porcelain Academy in Kingston. Once you explain it to Minister Ye, he'll know what to do. The Public Works team will handle the construction, and you'll work with Minister Ye on the implementation plan."
Martin Wu beamed with pride. "Haha, great! Princess Jade Hayes, I'll draft a plan and go see Minister Ye! Simon Yu, did you hear that? I wasn't lying—Princess Jade Hayes said herself, the medical college will admit men and women! Your old-fashioned thinking about women being unfit—forget it! Times have changed! Princess Jade Hayes says women can hold up half the sky!"
