Baxa was much more sociable, answering politely with a smile, "We live in the Primeval Demon Wilds."
"Primeval Demon Wilds?" Jillian Summers asked in surprise, "Which Primeval Demon Wilds?"
"The Celestial Demon Wilds," Baxa replied. "We live in the Celestial Demon Wilds."
"Are the three of you siblings actually demon beasts?" Jillian asked.
"Yes," Baxa nodded.
"Well, now! This really is unexpected!" Jillian Summers exaggerated her surprise. "No wonder the groom is so handsome—he doesn't look human at all! I knew it!"
Neither of them responded.
Jillian Summers turned to Clarissa Summers with a smile: "Clarissa, I heard Little Fish's aunt introduced her to quite a few Divine Race suitors, and even the Fourth Highness—or was it several Highnesses—wanted to marry Little Fish as a consort. So how did she end up... marrying a demon beast? With her talent, isn't it a bit of a waste?"
This was both a put-down of Lily Bai and a deliberate slight against her husband's family.
Clarissa Summers scowled, "My son-in-law is just fine! He has cultivation, he has looks—and most importantly, my Little Fish loves him! They're loving and happy together, isn't that right, Your Majesty?"
Marcus White nodded, "Exactly! Exactly!"
Jillian Summers gave a faint smile, "They do look good together! A perfect match! I mean no offense, just... the status is a little lacking, isn't it?"
Clarissa Summers said nothing.
"When you're young, love is always intense, isn't it? But sometimes it only lasts a few months, or maybe ten years before it fades! In the long run, you have to see what this marriage really brings her." Jillian Summers went on, "Take my daughter Pingping—ever since she married Qiu Ning of the Evermount Clan as a concubine, her cultivation and her horizons have soared! Now, in all the Three Realms and Ten Wilds, who doesn't look up to her?"
Clarissa Summers replied with a blank expression, "To each their own! My niece is a gifted Rune Master—she doesn't care about any of that."
"Yes, yes! Little Fish is a genius and so pretty. But honestly, this wedding is a bit too plain, and the timing is so rushed!" Jillian Summers said. "Why did you have to hold the wedding so suddenly?"
Clarissa Summers replied, "It was Little Fish's master who decided. The Eight Characters matched best for today, and it shouldn't be a grand affair."
"Oh, I see!" Jillian Summers covered her mouth with her sleeve, laughing so hard her wrinkles showed. "I thought you rushed it because she was pregnant!"
Clarissa Summers half-joked, half-serious, "The food might be simple today, but it's still pretty good! Eat more—maybe it'll finally keep you from running your mouth!"
"Heh!" Jillian Summers glanced at the food on the table but didn't touch a bite. "You call this good? You have no idea—when Pingping got married, the Evermount Clan served Fairy Fruit! Actual Fairy Fruit! And all the guests were Divine Race! That kind of prestige... tsk tsk tsk!"
...
Azure Flame, watching the verbal sparring, sent a voice transmission to Baxa: "The Evermount Clan is just a minor family, only five or six members have even a trace of divine blood, but she brags like they're something special. The Zhuo clan should have broader horizons! I can't believe they've got someone this ridiculous."
Baxa smiled faintly, "Every family has its own embarrassments. Let's just drink—the wine is excellent!"
...
Clarissa Summers was so annoyed, her face stayed sour all night.
