Serena Summers Arrives
Jillian Summers was her first cousin. Because Jillian and her sister Clarissa lost their parents young, Jillian was always bullying them.
Even after they each got married, she kept competing with them over everything.
Back when Serena Summers's marriage hit the rocks, Jillian never missed a chance to kick her when she was down. But then when Serena landed herself a spot at Lord Wynn Drake’s Manor, Jillian got all salty about it...
Basically, Jillian looks down on Little Fish’s marriage now, so Clarissa is super annoyed.
...
The next morning, Serena Summers suddenly showed up.
She brought only a single Divine Attendant, and popped up out of nowhere in the Eastern Luo Royal Palace.
The moment she saw her sister, her face was full of reproach. “Clarissa! Little Fish got married and you didn’t even tell me!”
Clarissa looked puzzled. “How did you even find out?”
“I didn’t! I just happened to come looking for you, saw the palace decked out for a wedding, asked a maid, and found out!" Serena huffed. "Can you explain what’s going on? I’m your own sister, and you didn’t even notify me about Little Fish’s wedding?”
“Sis, don’t be mad.” Clarissa pulled her down to sit. “It was Little Fish’s master—he said we shouldn’t make a big deal out of it.”
And Lord Faustin, Immortal Warden of the Sigil Sect, got blamed for it yet again.
“Even if it’s a small wedding, you should’ve at least told me, right? Jillian got an invite—are you saying she means more to you than I do?”
“Of course not,” Clarissa said quickly. “It’s just that Little Fish’s master said not to let the Divine Realm find out—the fewer people who know, the better.”
Serena frowned. “Why?”
“It’s something to do with the divination, I guess. I don’t really know the details.”
Serena wrinkled her brow. “So, who’s your son-in-law?”
“He’s... Little Fish’s Spirit Beast.” Clarissa looked a bit embarrassed.
Serena had introduced Little Fish to several Divine Race suitors before.
Little Fish hadn’t chosen any of them, and now she’d actually gone and married her Spirit Beast...
“Spirit Beast?” Serena looked stunned. “What kind of Spirit Beast could make Little Fish turn down both Fourth Highness and the Qilin Divine Lord?”
Clarissa said, “Little Fish explained it to me. She said Fourth Highness and the Qilin Divine Lord only wanted to marry her because she looks like someone—a Qilin Saint Maiden who’s already gone. She refuses to be anyone’s stand-in.”
“No matter what, you shouldn’t give up the Divine Race to marry some demon beast, right?” Serena was totally baffled.
“He’s... really good-looking. He’s exactly Little Fish’s type,” Clarissa said.
“Bring him here. I want to see for myself!” Serena looked unconvinced. “I just have to see what kind of drop-dead gorgeous man could actually hook Little Fish!”
Clarissa told a maid to go fetch the newlyweds.
Once the maid left, she turned to Serena. “By the way, what brings you here today?”
Serena frowned. “I’m here for Fourth Highness.”
“Fourth Highness? He’s still hung up on Little Fish?” Clarissa’s face darkened.
Serena nodded.
“You saw how the Celestial Empress treated Little Fish and the White family, right?” Clarissa shook her head. “Even if Little Fish hadn’t gotten married, there’s no way she’d ever be with him! What is he thinking?”
Serena said, “I feel the same way, but he told me that grudges should be resolved, not deepened. He claims the Celestial Empress says if Little Fish marries him, all the past will be forgiven. It sounded reasonable, so I wanted to ask you one last time if there’s any chance.”
“No chance!” Lily Bai strode in with her new husband and declared, “Auntie, Fourth Highness is just making things up! Don’t listen to him anymore.”
Serena’s gaze landed on Sean Shaw, standing behind Lily, and her mouth fell open.
