The Arrogant Gu Family

1/4/2026

"Dad..." Cecilia Gu turned to look at her adoptive father.

Yes, now he can only be called her adoptive father.

Just now, he had publicly drawn a line between them, cutting off all ties!

"Don't call me that, I can't bear it," Howard Gu snorted coldly. "Alright, now the divorce is done. If there's nothing else, I'll leave. All your things have already been thrown out, so don't come back!"

Hearing Howard Gu's cruel words, both Cecilia Gu and her mother—no, now she should be called Jane Gu—had sadness flash in their eyes.

He really was burning the bridge after crossing it...

Howard Gu turned and left, not sparing another glance at anyone except for a slight smile toward Charles Yin.

"Mom, don't be afraid! Charles has already bought you a house! We have somewhere to go," Cecilia reassured her mother quickly, worried she'd be upset. "Charles had it cleaned today, so we can move in right away."

Jane Gu was stunned for a moment. When she looked up at Charles Yin, her eyes were full of gratitude.

Strictly speaking, a son-in-law is still considered an outsider.

Especially since Charles Yin is the CEO of Yin Enterprises, he could have easily ignored such a trivial matter.

The only reason he's handling it personally is for Cecilia's sake!

Seeing her son-in-law care so much about her daughter, half of Jane Gu's sadness faded away.

"Let's go see how the new house looks," Charles Yin said, taking the initiative. "There aren't many belongings, and Alex has already packed everything up. Cecilia, if you need anything else, just buy it. Don't worry about the money."

Whether Charles Yin was sincere or not, Cecilia still felt a warmth in her heart.

At a time like this, a helping hand really does win you a lot of goodwill.

Charles drove Cecilia and Jane Gu to the newly bought, fully furnished four-bedroom house with a yard. Meanwhile, Jenny Gu finally managed to get home after a long ride.

The moment she arrived, she was stunned by the news that her uncle and aunt had divorced, unable to recover for a long time.

Aunt Linda Gu was cracking sunflower seeds, gossiping to Jenny Gu, "Ah, you missed all the drama! Your uncle really has some skills—he seemed so weak, but turns out he's had a girlfriend in the city for ages, and he's even been on a bunch of blind dates! If your aunt hadn't caught him by luck, who knows how long he would have kept it secret? And your grandma is sharp too—she didn't give your aunt a single cent, just kicked her out with nothing! Tsk tsk, Jenny, your grandma must still have money. You should spend more time with her these days and get her to buy you a house soon..."

Jenny Gu couldn't care less about any of that and interrupted her mom, "What about Cecilia? What did she say?"

"What could she say? She followed her mom and completely cut ties with the Gu Family!" Aunt Linda Gu sighed, "Such a shame, she should've gotten more money! Oh, by the way, where's your dad? Why didn't I see him today?"

Jenny Gu couldn't care less where her dad went.

All she knew was that it was over, everything was over!

If Cecilia Gu really cut ties with the Gu Family, then she'd never come back to Guville again! If she doesn't come, why would Charles Yin ever show up?

It's over, it's all over. She shouldn't have gone to the county last night!

If she'd stayed home, maybe she could've stopped it.

Well, now it's hopeless!

Talk about coincidence.

The house Alex bought for Charles Yin ended up right next to the one Grandma Gu bought.

One is Building A, the other is Building B.

When Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu got out of the car, they heard someone setting off firecrackers to celebrate moving into a new home.

Curious, Cecilia and her mom turned to look, and instantly, everyone's body froze.

It turned out the one moving in was none other than Howard Gu!

They'd just split up at the County Clerk's Office, and now here they were meeting again.

Charles Yin frowned just a little, and Alex immediately said, "Boss, that was my mistake! Should I buy another one?"

You can't exactly ask around about who else is buying a house in the neighborhood, can you?

Jane Gu said firmly, "No need to change! We have nothing to hide. Only those who have a guilty conscience need to hide! We haven't done anything wrong, so why should we hide?"

Cecilia nodded in agreement, "That's right, Mom! Living this close is good. Let's see who really gets the last laugh!"

After hearing Cecilia say that, Charles Yin finally relaxed.

Alex quietly wiped the sweat from his brow.

If Mrs. Yin hadn't spoken up, Alex probably wouldn't have survived the day.

Now, after the divorce, Jane Gu finally snapped out of it.

The Gu Family had been eager to move in for ages, but couldn't because of the marriage.

What a shameless Gu Family!

No one paid attention to Howard Gu's side. The group slowly stepped into their new home.

The house was being sold by someone moving abroad, and their taste was excellent—the place was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated.

Just a little tidying up and they could move right in.

That's exactly why Alex chose this house.

The house is in the center of the county, right by the mall, supermarket, and bus stop. The hospital and the big market are nearby too—it's super convenient for daily life.

Plus, it's on the first floor with an eighty-square-meter yard. You could grow vegetables or fruit, soak up the sun—it's a perfect place to retire.

Cecilia was very satisfied with the house.

Jane Gu looked a little guilty, "Why buy me such a nice house? I'm fine anywhere, I can sleep just about anywhere."

"Mom!" Cecilia held her mother's hand. "I need to tell you something in advance. To prevent the Gu Family from shamelessly fighting you for ownership, this house is currently under my name."

"Silly girl, why would I care whose name it's under?" Jane Gu laughed. "Living in my daughter's house makes me feel at ease!"

Hearing Jane Gu say that, Cecilia finally smiled.

At that moment, Alex leaned in and whispered something to Charles Yin, who nodded to show he understood.

After the three had lunch, Charles found a moment alone with Cecilia and said elegantly, "Cecilia, stay here with your mom for a while. I have some business and will be away for a few days. I'll come pick you up soon. I'll leave Alex with you, plus a chef and a servant. If you need anything else, just tell Alex."

Cecilia nodded.

Looking at Cecilia's face, Charles suddenly hated the idea of going on a business trip.

Before, all his energy had gone into work, and business trips were just routine for him.

But now, as he quietly looked at Cecilia, he wished he never had to travel again.

Cecilia felt awkward under Charles Yin's gaze and quickly lowered her head to avoid his eyes.

She kept feeling that Charles Yin's eyes were strange, like there was an emotion she couldn't quite read.

Cecilia kept reminding herself: Stay calm! Stay clear-headed! Don't be fooled by Charles Yin's good looks! You're just contract spouses. He's only helping you for the sake of the contract! Don't get carried away!

With that mental pep talk, Cecilia finally managed to calm down.

She steadied herself and replied, "Alright, come back soon."

Not getting any other reaction from Cecilia, a flash of disappointment crossed Charles Yin's eyes.

He'd thought Cecilia would beg him to stay...

Clearly, he'd been overthinking it.

Charles Yin's eyes darkened and his tone suddenly turned harsh. "Don't wander around for no reason. Your body can't handle any setbacks right now. What if something happens to the baby?"

Cecilia kept her head down and didn't notice the change in Charles Yin's expression. Hearing his harsh words, she felt a pang of sadness.

So it was true—he only cared for her because of the child...

"I understand," Cecilia replied obediently.

It was part of the contract—she had no reason to refuse.

Seeing Cecilia so indifferent, Charles Yin, who'd wanted to say more, turned cold. He left the house without another word.

Alex watched as the CEO strode out, looking angry and brooding, and couldn't figure out what had happened.

Just a moment ago, everything seemed fine. How did things change so quickly...?

Well, nowadays, only Mrs. Yin can affect the CEO's mood and make him lose his cool.

Maybe Mrs. Yin said something that made the CEO mad?

Who knew the CEO had delayed his 6 a.m. flight to 2 p.m. just to spend more time with Mrs. Yin.

Sigh, if the CEO doesn't say anything, how would Mrs. Yin ever know?

Following Charles Yin's instructions, Alex stayed in town to look after everything for Cecilia.

No one knew how Howard Gu found out that Cecilia and Jane Gu had arrived in town and were living next door.

Three days later, Howard Gu held an extravagant wedding in the neighborhood.

The bride wasn't Sister Fan, whom Charles Yin had dealt with, nor the woman he'd met on a blind date—it was a stranger.

To show off his remarriage, Howard Gu made the wedding convoy circle the neighborhood, even honking in front of Cecilia's door to flaunt.

Cecilia glanced at her mom, and sure enough, Jane Gu's body stiffened!

"I'm fine," Jane Gu said, her face pale, still managing to comfort Cecilia. "He's probably been waiting for this day forever. Let him show off for a few days."

Cecilia suddenly remembered—the truth about Dad's infertility hadn't come out yet...

Suddenly, she found herself looking forward to what might happen next.

"With such a caring daughter, I have nothing to regret." Jane Gu reached out and gently stroked Cecilia's hair. "The sun's too harsh out here, let's go inside."

Cecilia nodded and got ready to head inside with her mom.

Just then, a pleasant voice sounded behind them: "Excuse me, sorry to bother you, but could you tell me where Room 102, Building 15B is?"
