Grandma Gu was so embarrassed by the neighbor's blunt question that her face turned beet red.
Howard Gu was stunned and couldn't think of a way to respond.
In the car, Charles Yin patted Cecilia Gu's hand and said, "Alright, it's time. We can make our entrance now."
Cecilia Gu nodded, taking with her all the evidence Charles Yin had gathered. The two of them got out of the car and slowly walked toward the front door.
Helen Gu stood at the doorway, watching her belongings being trampled into the dirt. The clothes she had washed so carefully were now covered in dust.
"Since Howard Gu already has someone else lined up, I, Helen Gu, won't stick around in the the Gu family!" Helen Gu fought back tears and said, "Since everyone is here today, let's go get the divorce paperwork done! That way, you won't have to sneak behind my back to go on blind dates anymore. Let's just do it openly!"
"What—what nonsense are you talking about? When did I ever go on blind dates? Helen Gu, don't slander me!" Howard Gu jumped up in a panic.
"Aren't you the one who resents me for not being able to have children? You want someone else to give you a child, right? Fine, I'll help you!" Helen Gu couldn't hold back her anger any longer and shouted at Howard Gu, "We're getting divorced today! I'm not so desperate as to stay in the the Gu family after being kicked out!"
Well said!
Standing behind her mother, Cecilia Gu gave her a thumbs up!
"Son, hurry up and divorce her! I've put up with her for years, and I've had enough! The Gu Family bloodline can't end with her!" Grandma Gu was furious that Helen Gu dared to ask for a divorce, and she slammed her cane on the ground, shouting, "All these years, she's been eating our food and not earning a cent! Get her out of here!"
Helen Gu felt a chill run through her heart.
She knew exactly how ruthless and cold her mother-in-law could be.
But even after being exposed by the truth, she was still this arrogant.
How blind she must have been before!
She always thought that if she just endured, things would get better. She never imagined there are people in this world who you just can't win over, no matter how much you give.
Howard Gu had his own mother backing him, and now that he'd found a woman he liked, he'd been wanting to divorce his wife for a long time.
He'd planned to use other means to force his wife out, but even though things hadn't gone exactly as he wanted, so what?
Either way, this marriage was ending!
Cecilia Gu had planned to reveal that Howard Gu was the one who couldn't have children, but suddenly, she decided not to say it!
She was truly sick of the Gu Family and their ugly faces.
Even her own father couldn't rise above it, so it's no surprise the others are just as bad.
After Charles Yin accompanied Cecilia Gu to the door, she softly said, "If my parents get divorced, I'm staying with Mom."
Grandma Gu originally wanted to make a snide remark, claiming Cecilia wasn't her granddaughter anyway. But seeing Charles Yin there, she swallowed her words.
Howard Gu suddenly remembered the time his daughter caught him on a blind date.
Now that Jane Gu knows about it, it must've been their daughter who told her!
To the adopted daughter who 'betrayed' him, Howard Gu now felt nothing but resentment.
His mind was already filled with dreams of having his own child. As for his adopted daughter, she could just go with his ex-wife!
"Fine!" Howard Gu agreed immediately. "But your dowry money stays with the Gu Family! You won't take a single cent!"
Without that dowry money, how could he afford to keep another woman on the side?
Cecilia Gu couldn't help but laugh at that comment.
Charles Yin's lips curled into a faint smile too, but since this was Cecilia's family matter, he didn't interfere. That didn't mean his money would be so easy to take!
"Dad, are you talking about the 200,000 yuan the Yin Family gave before the wedding, or the 10 million and the villa they gave after I had a child?" Cecilia Gu asked sarcastically, looking at the Gu Family members, who all acted entitled and shameless. She realized just how rotten this family was.
They were greedy enough to take their daughter's dowry. How could anyone expect them to be reasonable?
Grandma Gu jumped in, "That 200,000 was money from your husband's family to the Gu Family!"
"What money for the Gu Family?" Cecilia could tolerate a lot, but she would never let them bully her mother!
"Your mother-in-law said that money was for the Gu Family. We've raised you for years, don't we deserve a little interest back?" Grandma Gu blurted out.
"Oh, so you're saying that 200,000 was the price the Yin Family paid to buy me?" Cecilia Gu kept leading Grandma Gu into her trap.
"That's right! Even though you're not Gu Family blood, you still grew up eating our food. Selling you to the Yin Family, isn't it fair to get some money?" Grandma Gu was so used to insulting people, the words came out easily.
Cecilia Gu gripped her phone, smiling with satisfaction—she'd recorded the whole conversation.
"Since even Grandma admits the Yin Family paid 200,000 to 'buy' me, what right does she have to keep my other assets?" Cecilia Gu said bluntly. "I have a detailed file here—it lists all the money Dad has secretly saved over the years, plus all the money he's spent on women outside the family. Every transaction is clearly recorded! Since Mom and Dad are getting divorced, we need to split the assets, right? They're still married, so it's all joint property. Grandma, you have no objection, do you?"
Cecilia Gu tossed the documents to Howard Gu. "It even includes info on Dad's recent blind dates. I met with both women he saw yesterday!"
Howard Gu's face turned completely pale!
"Cecilia Gu, how could you—" Howard Gu was furious and tried to slap her!
Charles Yin stretched out his long leg and pulled Cecilia Gu behind him. He didn't say a word, just stared coldly at the Gu Family.
Seeing Charles Yin blocking his way, Howard Gu didn't dare hit her anymore.
"200,000 to end this relationship. Worth it!" Cecilia Gu continued, "Since things have come to this, Mom and I have nothing left to say! Let's just go to the County Clerk's Office and sign the divorce papers!"

Grandma Gu had always been indulged by her eldest daughter-in-law and granddaughter, but today she was threatened with divorce by Jane Gu and Cecilia Gu. She felt utterly humiliated.
Especially with all the neighbors watching.
Grandma Gu couldn't hold back anymore and shouted, "Divorce! Divorce! We have to divorce! The Gu Family doesn't want a hen that can't lay eggs! And we don't want a granddaughter who betrays us! You won't get a single cent of Gu Family money!"
"I don't care about the Gu Family's money!" Helen Gu felt heartbroken seeing Grandma Gu scold her daughter. Gritting her teeth, she said, "I have hands and feet—I can take care of myself! I've had enough of this family!"
Hearing Helen Gu give up the money, both Grandma Gu and Howard Gu seemed to breathe a sigh of relief!
Cecilia Gu instantly understood—the whole morning's drama was just to force her mom to give up on the Gu Family's money.
Cecilia Gu felt even sadder in her heart.
Maybe even if Mom and I hadn't found out about Dad's cheating, Dad and Grandma would have found another excuse to divorce her anyway.
Poor Mom was still thinking about the Gu Family's future just yesterday.
She had no idea the Gu Family had already given up on her long ago.
Once both sides agreed, Charles Yin drove Cecilia Gu and her parents straight to the County Clerk's Office.
If they're going to solve this, might as well do it quickly.
At the County Clerk's Office, when it came time to write the divorce agreement, Howard Gu insisted there was no joint property between them.
Helen Gu was numb inside by now. She didn't care what Howard Gu said anymore.
She had poured half her life into this man, only to be told it was all because of 'irreconcilable differences.'
Did all those years caring for the family mean nothing to him?
Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin stood at the entrance of the County Clerk's Office. Cecilia's heart was a jumble of emotions.
Charles Yin remained calm as always.
"If you're not satisfied, I can make sure your mom gets the best possible deal," Charles Yin said softly.
Damn it, seeing the worry in Cecilia's eyes made his heart ache. He wished he could smooth away all her troubles.
Cecilia Gu shook her head gently and said, "For my mom, none of that really matters. If she cared about money, she wouldn't have married Dad, or stayed with this poor family for over twenty years. Mom values love—she's suffered for Dad for so long. That money means nothing compared to her freedom! As long as she can leave the Gu Family and escape this misery, that's the greatest benefit of all."
Charles Yin's lips curled into a soft smile as he gazed steadily at Cecilia Gu.
"I've actually thought about this for a long time. Mom has suffered so much in the Gu Family—you've seen what they're like. She's worked herself to the bone, but still gets blamed and shamed. If Dad cherished her, all the hardship would be worth it. But Dad... he's let me down so much." The coldness in Cecilia Gu's eyes stung Charles Yin's heart.
Unable to help himself, Charles Yin gently took Cecilia Gu's fingers and said softly, "Everything will get better."
There was one thing Charles Yin didn't say.
As long as you're happy, I'll do anything.
Howard Gu and Helen Gu quickly finished the paperwork and came downstairs.
There was a hint of joy in Howard Gu's eyes—he couldn't wait to marry his new bride.
Helen Gu's eyes were clouded and unreadable.
Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin simply stood at the entrance, quietly waiting.
Helen Gu's gaze immediately fell on Cecilia and Charles's joined hands, and for the first time, she felt a bit of comfort.
"Mom..." Cecilia Gu said worriedly, instinctively pulling her hand out of Charles Yin's grasp.
Charles Yin's heart sank with disappointment.
"I'm fine." Helen Gu forced a smile. She couldn't let her pregnant daughter worry about her.
