"We'll go home with you." Charles Yin smiled gently. "A son-in-law is half a son. How could I just stand by when something like this happens?"
Cecilia Gu immediately turned and gave Charles Yin a grateful smile.
Even though they were only contract spouses, Charles Yin had already done more than enough!
This matter really had nothing to do with him—he could have just stayed out of it entirely!
But he still treated it as his own problem and chose to help.
This was already beyond the scope of their contract.
Cecilia Gu would always remember this kindness in her heart.
Cecilia Gu turned and looked up. "Mom, let's go home!"
"Okay!" Helen Gu was moved to tears by Charles Yin's words about a son-in-law being half a son.
In the moment she faced betrayal, at least she wasn't alone.
This time, Charles Yin drove himself, constantly glancing at Cecilia and Helen Gu through the rearview mirror.
Cecilia Gu kept her head down, her eyes filled with calculation and thought.
Helen Gu's expression remained blank and dazed.
Maybe she still hadn't figured out how to face the husband who betrayed her.
When Cecilia Gu looked up, she saw Charles Yin, full of concern, watching her as he drove.
Cecilia Gu felt like Charles Yin had something to say to her, and couldn't help but look at him questioningly.
Charles Yin pointed at the passenger seat. Cecilia Gu paused, instantly understood, and after they stopped, moved to the front seat.
"What's up?" Cecilia Gu asked, puzzled.
Charles Yin lowered his voice. "Just now, Little A picked out an apartment in the county. The location is good, and the environment's decent. I've already put it under your name. If things really get bad and Mom doesn't want to leave town, you two can live there."
Cecilia Gu was stunned. In such a short time, he'd already thought of a backup plan for her mom's future.
As her daughter, she hadn’t even considered this problem!
Except for the day Mom got married, she’s never left this place!
To suddenly leave the familiar and go to N City, she probably wouldn’t adjust well, right?
Cecilia Gu lowered her voice: "What if Mom refuses to divorce?"
Charles Yin’s lips curled into a mischievous, charming smile.
"Do you think it’s really up to your mom to agree or not agree to the divorce?" Charles Yin’s voice was low and heavy, only the two of them could hear: "Your dad didn’t come back to the hotel last night, which means he came home early. What that means is obvious."
Cecilia Gu’s face went pale: "You mean my dad came home last night to talk about divorcing Mom? That’s too much! How could he do that?"
"Just watch and see." Charles Yin said quietly. "It’s always good to be prepared."
Cecilia Gu nodded silently.
The car quickly returned to the village, but most people stayed outside. Only Charles Yin drove into the village.
"Mom, do you need us to go in with you?" Cecilia Gu unfastened her seatbelt and looked back at her mother.
"No, I’ll go in and get some answers myself." Helen Gu said firmly. "I want to ask Howard Gu if he can really justify what he’s done to me!"
Cecilia Gu was worried, but this was her mother’s choice. She could only nod, trying to sound reassuring: "Alright, we’ll wait nearby. If Grandma Gu bullies you, call me right away!"
Helen Gu just nodded absentmindedly, not really hearing anything.
Her mind was a mess. She only wanted to ask her husband one thing: Why?
Cecilia could only watch as her mother got out of the car and walked toward the front door.
"Don’t worry. It’s better they show their true colors now than keep lying." Charles Yin saw Cecilia’s worried look and reached out to hold her hand.
This time, Cecilia Gu was so worried about her mom that she didn’t even notice her own hand was already wrapped in Charles’s big, warm palm.
Charles Yin noticed Cecilia didn’t pull away this time, and his eyes sparkled with joy.
But his happiness didn’t last long.
Just as Helen Gu stepped through the front gate, a bundle suddenly flew out of the courtyard and hit her square in the face!
Helen Gu was stunned by the blow, unable to react for a long moment.
At that moment, Grandma Gu’s fierce voice rang out from inside: "Shameless woman, get out of the Gu family! You’ve lived off us for over twenty years, and you couldn’t even give us a child! Now you’re running around at night, sleeping with some man outside!"
Helen Gu was rooted to the spot by Grandma Gu’s words.
What was she talking about?
She’d clearly spent last night with her daughter, so why was her mother-in-law slandering her like this?
In the car, Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin also heard Grandma Gu’s shout.
What did she mean by that?
Trying to pin the blame?
Charles Yin’s lips curled into a mocking smile. "Looks like this is the result of your dad and grandma’s plotting. Instead of waiting for your mom to ask questions, they’re attacking first, turning the tables so she can’t defend herself. Honestly, your grandma is pretty clever—she’s good at playing these mind games."
Cecilia couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh. "That’s how it’s always been. For years, Grandma Gu’s kept Mom under her thumb with this kind of manipulation."
At this moment, more and more things started flying out of the courtyard.
Clothes, shoes, blankets—all thrown at Helen Gu’s face, one after another.
Now, the neighbors in the village began gathering outside to watch.
Seeing Grandma Gu bullying the eldest daughter-in-law again, the neighbors started urging her to stop.
Suddenly, Grandma Gu sat down on the ground, slapping her thighs and wailing: "What a disaster! The Gu family’s doomed! How could we marry such a shameless daughter-in-law? You all know, she looks honest, but last night she didn’t even come home! She wants to make the Gu family a laughingstock!"

Hearing Grandma Gu’s accusations, Cecilia Gu was fuming!
How could she slander Mom like that? This was way out of line!
The Gu family—none of them are any good!
The family’s rotten from top to bottom!
"Wait for it! If we’re going to hit back, let’s make it count!" Charles Yin’s voice was calm, but to Cecilia, it sounded especially reassuring.
Sure enough, the next second, Howard Gu suddenly walked out of the courtyard, pointing at Helen Gu: "I told you to come home last night and you didn’t. You said you had things to do in the county, but look at what happened? People saw you with another man! Jane, after all these years, I was wrong about you! You betrayed me!"
Jane is Helen Gu’s real name.
Sadly, after all these years in the Gu family, no one ever called her by name. It was always ‘hey you’ or ‘wife’...
Hearing her husband and mother-in-law slander her together, Helen Gu was so angry she trembled all over.
She never imagined that the first thing she’d face at home wouldn’t be her husband’s questions, but a coordinated attack.
Howard Gu and Grandma Gu knew Helen’s personality well. Seeing her so angry she couldn’t speak, they piled on, making things worse.
Cecilia Gu listened to all this and could barely sit still!
Charles Yin held Cecilia’s hand tightly and whispered, "Stay calm! The more vicious their accusations, the stronger our counterattack will be. Isn’t this what you wanted, for your mom to finally break free? Maybe this is the perfect chance!"
Cecilia’s eyes lit up!
He’s right—Charles Yin is absolutely right!
The more mud the Gu family slings, the more disgusted Mom will become.
Once they push her to the edge, Mom will finally give up on the Gu family and stop defending them!
Sure enough, as Howard and Grandma Gu kept blaming her, Helen’s eyes grew colder and colder.
Even though her husband betrayed her, she hadn’t wanted a divorce at first.
As long as he admitted his mistake, she still wanted to keep the marriage.
This was her home, after all.
But she’d barely set foot inside before her husband and mother-in-law branded her a cheater, accused her of sleeping around, and called her a bad woman.
Helen Gu was a traditional woman, fiercely protective of her reputation. The thing she couldn’t stand most was being publicly shamed.
Now, her reputation was completely ruined by her own husband and mother-in-law. Despair washed over her.
The Gu family really was rotten to the core. Grandma and Howard Gu kept cursing, and even Charles Yin’s rich uncles and aunts joined in, adding fuel to the fire with their schadenfreude.
Finally, Helen Gu couldn’t take it anymore. She spoke up, calm and firm: "Alright, since you want the truth, let’s put everything out in the open! Howard Gu, you keep saying I cheated on you—do you have any proof? Last night, your mistress in the county almost attacked me and Cecilia. Plenty of people saw it! You want evidence? Lucky for you, I’ve got some right here!"
Helen Gu calmly pulled a confession letter from her bag, signed and fingerprinted by Miss Fan. It couldn’t possibly be faked.
This confession detailed every moment Helen and Howard Gu spent together, clear and undeniable.
The neighbors crowded around, curious, passing the confession letter from hand to hand. Some even read it out loud.
Grandma Gu and Howard Gu were instantly flustered!
They never imagined Helen Gu, always so gentle, would have a confession letter like this!
After reading the confession, the neighbors looked at the Gu family with totally different eyes.
Aunt Lin couldn’t help but chime in: "Ever since the eldest daughter-in-law married into the Gu family, she’s never done anything wrong! She may not have had kids, but she’s kept everything in order. Now, it’s Howard Gu who’s done something shameful, and they want to blame her? Shame on you!"
