The New Neighbor

Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu turned around at the same time and saw a middle-aged man dragging a suitcase, smiling warmly at them. He held a slip of paper in his hand, apparently searching for his new home.

The man looked to be in his early forties, exuding an air of refinement that immediately made him likable.

Cecilia immediately noticed that, while the man dressed simply, the watch on his wrist was far beyond what most people could afford.

In this small county, very few people could afford to wear a Rolex.

“It’s right across from here,” Jane Gu replied proactively. “We’re neighbors!”

The man realized instantly as he saw where Jane Gu pointed, and thanked her graciously. “Thank you, thank you! It’s my first time here, so I’m not very familiar with the place yet.”

Cecilia Gu and Jane Gu nodded with a smile in response.

After returning to her own home, Cecilia Gu asked everyone else to go rest. She sat down on the sofa with her mother, worry in her eyes. “Mom, what are you planning to do now? You’ve given so much to the Gu family all these years, and yet...”

“I don’t know yet, maybe I’ll just rest for a few days,” Jane Gu replied with a melancholy smile. “Suddenly freed from all those chores, I don’t even know what to do with myself.”

“Alright, then just rest for a few days. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll support you!” Cecilia Gu held her mother’s hand, comforting her.
