Striking It Rich
Lucky clutched the silver certificate, blinked, and pointed at a medium-sized stone on the ground. "Boss, I want to buy this one."
"This one is exactly three hundred taels!" The boss smiled at Lily Evans, kindly reminding, "Young lady, you’d better think it over. Once you pay, the stone is yours. Whatever comes out of it, there’s no returns."
Lily Evans nodded, "Boss, we understand. My husband wants that stone, so let’s go with it. Please help us cut it open."
Lucky handed the three hundred tael silver certificate to the boss, who took the money and prepared to cut the stone for Lily Evans.
The crowd watching the excitement grew larger—everyone wanted to see the fool gamble on jade.
Lucky squatted on the ground, nervously clutching Lily Evans’s sleeve.
Lily Evans said, "Lucky, it’s fine. If nothing comes out, it doesn’t matter. If the money’s gone, we’ll earn it back."
"We’ll definitely get something. Trust me, Lily!" Lucky was nervous but resolute.
Leonard Li couldn’t help but glance at the couple, thinking to himself that these two really were a pair of oddballs.
A fool insisting on jade gambling, and a sharp-looking woman actually agreeing to bet their entire fortune—plus she acted like losing it all wouldn’t bother her.
Honestly, that kind of poise made Leonard Li see Lily Evans in a new light.
"Here we go!" the boss shouted, bringing the blade down...
"Wow! There’s jadeite inside!" someone in the crowd exclaimed.
Lily Evans stared—the stone glowed with a beautiful, watery green.
"Wow, this is top-grade jadeite!" The boss’s eyes sparkled as he stroked his beard in amazement. "Young lady, you’ve uncovered a huge piece of top-grade jadeite—this is truly prime material! To be honest, I’ve been cutting stones for years, and this is the first time I’ve seen someone strike such luck on their very first try. You two must have heaven-defying luck!"
Lily Evans stared at the jadeite, eyes wide. Even though she didn’t know much about gemstones, the color and texture alone told her they’d found treasure!
"Lucky, we’ve struck it rich! Husband, you’re amazing!" Lily Evans grabbed Lucky’s hand in delight—maybe it really was true that fools had their own kind of luck!
Lucky blushed, a little shy but thrilled, straightening his back. "Lily, I promised I’d make us rich and give you a good life!"
"Haha, good job, Lucky!" Lily Evans couldn’t stop smiling—she’d been prepared to lose all their money, but who knew they’d suddenly strike it rich!
The crowd that had mocked the couple before now changed their tune, crowding around to see the stone and hoping to catch a bit of their good luck.
Benjamin Zhang, the young noble, had just mocked Lucky and now felt thoroughly embarrassed. His face turned as red as pork liver, and he muttered, "So a fool struck it lucky—what’s so great about that?"
Leonard Li glanced at Benjamin Zhang, then looked at Lily Evans with admiration—this young lady truly had guts.
The boss at the jade gambling stall offered three thousand taels to buy the stone from Lily Evans’s family. Lily hesitated—she didn’t know the trade and was afraid of being cheated.
Just as Lily hesitated, she saw Leonard Li give her a look and gesture ‘don’t sell.’ He walked over and whispered in her ear, "If you want to sell that jadeite, take it to Fortune Silver Jewelers. They buy all kinds of jade and silver, and their prices are fair—you won’t lose out."
Lily understood immediately—Leonard Li knew the business and had realized the boss was trying to cheat her, so he kindly warned her.
"Thank you for the tip." Lily smiled, wrapped up the stone, and handed it to Lucky to hold carefully. The four of them left the bustling market, all wondering—just how much could such a big piece of jadeite be worth?
