Lucky Tries Jade Gambling

"Oh, so this guy’s actually a fool! No wonder he wants to buy stones—hahaha! A fool playing at stone gambling, can you even afford it?" The young man in fine clothes, Zhang Bin, pointed at Lucky’s nose and burst out laughing.

Lily shot Zhang Bin a glare, not bothering to stoop to his level.

"Lucky, let’s go," Lily tried to pull Lucky away.

"Wife, I want to buy one!" Lucky insisted, unusually determined.

Lily stared at him, speechless. Why was her simple-minded husband so stubborn when he set his mind to something?

"Lucky, we’re not rich enough to throw silver away. These stones—we can’t afford to gamble. Look at Young Master Li, he knows his stuff, but even he spent five hundred taels and got nothing out of it. We don’t understand any of this. Stone gambling is just giving money to the shop owner." Lily patiently tried to talk Lucky out of it.

Lucky held Lily’s hand, lowered his head, and whispered, "Wife, they said if you get good jade from stone gambling, you can get rich. I—I want to get rich so you can live a good life."

Lily was speechless. She didn’t expect her silly husband to still be hung up on that ‘living off his wife’ remark.

"Wife, please let me try. If I waste the silver, I’ll chop more wood and fetch more water at home, okay?" Lucky looked at Lily with watery eyes, pitifully begging her.

Lily bit her lip as she looked at Lucky. She knew that day when Madam Tang mocked him for living off his wife, it had become a knot in Lucky’s heart. Her silly husband had probably been brooding over it, dreaming of striking it rich so she could have a better life.

Leonard Li waved his fan, sizing up Su Li. This young woman was beautiful and delicate, but there was a decisive strength in her eyes.

Unable to hold back, Leonard Li kindly reminded her, "Young lady, Jade Gambling is far too risky. Aren't you afraid of losing everything if you put up all your savings?"

Su Li smiled, "If you're afraid to lose, don't gamble. Besides, I trust my husband."

Lucky immediately beamed, his eyes sparkling. "I've carefully touched every single stone. I’ll definitely pick a good one—I won’t let you down, wife!"

Leonard Li shook his head at the fool’s mysterious confidence. He’d heard of a certain nobleman, a martial arts master, who could infuse inner strength into a stone with his fingertips and judge its contents by the vibration frequency.

But this fool was just using his hands to gamble on jade... Tsk, he was bound to lose everything!

(Jade Gambling: In ancient China, Jade Gambling was a high-stakes event where people bought rough stones, hoping to find precious jade inside. It was risky—sometimes leading to sudden wealth, but just as often, financial ruin.)

The crowd looked on, surprised that this plainly dressed farmwife actually agreed to let her simple-minded husband buy stones. Everyone was ready to watch the spectacle.

Even the cheapest stone at the stall cost a hundred taels apiece. No one believed a farmwife could cough up such a large sum.

"Lucky, here! All our savings—three hundred taels. Buy whichever you want." Su Li steeled herself and handed over all their money.

The crowd was stunned. Where did this farmwife come from, being so generous? Was she really about to spend their entire fortune on stones for her simple-minded husband?
