Buying Gifts for My Wife Makes Me Happy

Cynthia Wu's whole expression was as if she were still in a dream. It took her a moment to come back to herself, then she tugged on Lily's sleeve: "Lily, am I dreaming? Did Lucky really pick a stone that turned out to be a treasure?"

"It's true! Just now, everyone said it was a top-grade piece of jade inside. Isn't that a real treasure?" Lily grinned from ear to ear, praising Lucky's keen eye.

Mark Hunter chuckled, "Lucky, how did you know there was something good inside that stone?"

Lucky thought for a moment. "I just touched each stone, and I felt it."

Felt it? Lily couldn't help but laugh. Can you really feel your way through jade gambling?

Lily figured Lucky must truly have the luck of fools, which was how he picked such a treasure. But since jade gambling was still a kind of gambling, Lily didn’t want Lucky to get hooked on bad habits like gambling or drinking. She decided this would be the one and only time—they’d focus on honest ways to get rich from now on.

Carrying such a big stone around wasn’t convenient, so Lily said goodbye to Cynthia Wu and Mark Hunter, then took Lucky to Fortune Silver Jewelers to sell it.

It wasn’t their first time here, and as luck would have it, the shop assistant on duty today was Alan Bright.

Alan Bright spotted Lily and Lucky and greeted them with a cheerful smile. "Lucky, here to buy jewelry for your wife again?"

Lucky grinned, "First, we sell the treasure. Then, with the money, I’ll buy something nice for my wife."

Lucky took out the stone, and Alan Bright’s eyes lit up. “Did you really get this from jade gambling?”

“Yes! It was all thanks to Lucky’s sharp eye—he picked out a real treasure.” Lily replied with a smile.

Such a large piece of jade was a big deal. Alan Bright couldn’t make the decision himself, so he quickly invited them upstairs to be personally received by the shopkeeper, David Duke.

After buying jewelry, they headed to the clothing shop to pick out new outfits for all three family members.

Lucky tugged at Lily's sleeve and whispered, "Don't waste money buying me new clothes, wife. The ones you made are the best."

If not for Young Master Li, Lily would have lost two thousand taels for nothing. She decided that if she ever ran into him again, she’d have to thank him properly.

David Duke brought out the contract and said, "Miss, at Fortune Silver Jewelers we value fairness. If you sell us this jade, we'll write everything clearly on the receipt. If you ever find our price unfair, bring the receipt back and we'll make it right. Our shop has been in Greenfield City for decades—we're not going anywhere."

Lily thought it over and agreed—it was only fair. Five thousand taels it was.

She signed the receipt, handed over the stone, and took the silver note. Lily felt so happy she could fly!

“I’ll buy my wife beautiful jewelry!” Lucky declared with pride. He had finally earned money for the family and was no longer just living off his wife!

“Silly, you only think about buying things for me. Why not think about yourself?” Lily teased, poking Lucky’s chest.

Lucky scratched his head. "I—I can only think of my wife. I forgot about myself... Anyway, buying things for you makes me happy!"

Lily’s heart warmed. Lucky insisted on taking her to pick out jewelry, so they bought matching sets for Lily and Margaret Evans right there at Fortune Silver Jewelers, plus a few hairpins, earrings, and bracelets. Lily also picked out a couple of hair crowns for Lucky, spending less than fifty taels in total.

After buying jewelry, they went to the clothing shop to pick out new outfits for all three members of the family.

"Darling, you don't need to buy anything for me. It's a waste of money. I'm happy just wearing the clothes you made for me." Lucky's eyes sparkled as he remembered Lily measuring him for new clothes that night. His mind was filled with thoughts of her sweet scent, and he couldn't help but look forward to experiencing it again tonight.
