Return Journey

2/14/2026

After Zhang Heng escorted Evan Lin to Villa No. 2, he tactfully took his leave.

After getting Evan's number, Summer Mu also said his goodbyes.

Once everyone else had left, there were only three people left in the villa.

As soon as Yolanda Fang opened the door, she dove straight onto the soft, plush sofa, burying her head into it and exclaiming, “Now this feels like a real vacation—this is what life should be!”

“We walked so much today, I’m absolutely wiped out.”

Yolanda sighed dramatically, earning a roll of the eyes from Lynn Chen. “You’re tired after just a little walk?” Lynn retorted.

“I never walk at home, okay? Walking is a total waste of life!” Yolanda protested, then looked at Evan, raising an eyebrow. “Alright, spill it. Fess up.”

“Fess up to what?” Evan was momentarily confused.

Come on, what’s the deal here? That Heng-ge guy—why does he look at you like you’re his dad or something? He acts like he’s scared to death of you.

Yolanda sized up Evan, pouting. "You’re not handsome, you’re not rich, and you didn’t even really beat him up. So what’s he so scared of you for?"

As soon as Yolanda said this, Lynn Chen snapped back to reality, turned to Evan, and frowned. “Did you do something behind our backs again? Don’t go bringing me trouble.”

Lynn glared at Evan’s calm expression, feeling more and more annoyed.

Lately, Evan barely even looks at me. He used to be so respectful every time we met, and now, after just a few days, it feels like he's turned into someone else.

As Lynn thought about it, a sudden pang of grievance welled up inside her.

She couldn't help but shoot Evan a glare, her eyes turning sharp and unfriendly.

"What kind of trouble could I possibly cause? Relax, just enjoy it—it's all free anyway." Evan stretched lazily and went to lie down on a rattan chair.

Villa No. 2 was pure luxury—perched up high, with a balcony that let you look down over half of White Dragon Mountain. The floor-to-ceiling windows made everything feel wide open and bright, like you were living in a penthouse in the clouds.

There were tons of rooms, all spotless and sparkling clean.

Smack in the middle of the living room sat a giant LCD TV, and the coffee table was piled high with fruit and snacks—totally the kind of place you’d see in a rich kid’s travel vlog.

Yolanda grabbed the remote, turned on the TV, then slung an arm around the still-frowning Lynn and dragged her onto the sofa. With a dramatic sigh, she said, "Forget it, Lynn. Can’t you see? If Evan doesn’t want to say anything, there’s no point forcing him."

“What now?” Evan asked, a bit helpless when it came to Yolanda.

“I just saw a big bath over there. Looks pretty nice,” Yolanda said seriously.

“So?” Evan raised an eyebrow.

“So I’ll have to trouble you to fill it up for us. Lynn and I are going to bathe together—you can sneak a peek if you want.” Yolanda winked at Evan, grinning mischievously. “You can spy on your favorite beauty, Lynn.”

“What are you even saying?”

Lynn’s face flushed red and she shot Yolanda a fierce glare.

Yolanda giggled, then reached out and squeezed Lynn’s chest, which made Lynn exclaim in embarrassment and start wrestling with her.

Evan just shook his head, got up, and obediently went to fill the bath for them.

Evan shook his head, got up, and obediently went to run the bath for them.

The night passed quietly.

Early the next morning, Zhang Heng was already waiting in front of the villa. As soon as Evan opened the door, Zhang hurried over and said respectfully, “Young Master Summer had urgent business last night and left early. If you need anything, just let me know.”

“Alright,” Evan nodded.

“Young Master Summer?”

Yolanda and Lynn, who happened to be heading out, overheard Zhang Heng and looked over curiously.

“It’s Summer Mu from last night,” Evan explained casually.

Since their train tickets were for just after ten in the morning, they had a simple breakfast, and then Zhang Heng arranged a car to take the three of them to the high-speed rail station.

“Where’s Liam Li and the others?” Lynn looked around, not seeing Liam, and wondered aloud.

“Liam messaged me—they rescheduled for an earlier train and already left. Not surprising, really. After Jason Zhao used you as a human shield yesterday, how could they have the face to stay here?” Yolanda’s expression darkened as she said this.

She’d been classmates with Liam for years, even scrapped together a few times. To outsiders, Liam always seemed like a guy who cared too much about status, but Yolanda never really minded.

But after what Jason did yesterday, and Liam’s attitude, Yolanda couldn’t help but feel a bit distant from them.

“Lynn, I’m not at No. 1 High anymore, so I can’t always be by your side. You need to watch out for yourself. I don’t trust Jason Zhao—stay away from him.”

On the way to the station, Yolanda kept chattering, while Lynn just nodded, occasionally glancing at Evan in the front passenger seat.

After Zhang Heng dropped the three off at the high-speed rail station, he finally left.

As soon as Zhang Heng left, Yolanda immediately pressed Evan, “So what’s Young Master Summer’s real background? Is that why Zhang Heng treats you so respectfully?”

Lynn was also curious, looking at Evan. Otherwise, Zhang Heng wouldn’t bother with Evan at all.

“I’m not really sure, honestly. I just know Zhang Heng is really scared of him.”

Evan shook his head and went to pick up the tickets.

“The Summer family—could it be the Summer family from River City?” Yolanda frowned, thinking aloud.

Lynn stayed close to Yolanda. Once Evan got the tickets, the three of them boarded the train together.

Meanwhile, on the earlier high-speed train, Liam Li and the others sat together in silence.

“Is Summer Mu really from the Summer family in River City?”

Sisi Shao still couldn’t believe it. She glanced at Liam Li’s grim face and Jason Zhao’s gloomy expression, and asked softly.

“He doesn’t even look the part, does he?” Maggie Ma blurted out.

“Yeah, he’s just like Evan Lin—looks like some country kid who came to the city to work.” Lillian Wang nodded.

“And that Summer Mu guy doesn’t act like a rich second generation at all,” Cathy Li added.

“How could it be fake? I went to Heng-ge’s room last night and asked him myself.” Liam Li took a deep breath, still a bit shaken.

Yesterday, Zhang Heng specifically warned Liam not to mess with Summer Mu again.

Compared to the Summer family, even Jason Zhao was just a side character.

“The Summer family...”

Jason Zhao gritted his teeth. “No wonder Evan Lin got special treatment.”

“Evan’s just riding on Young Master Summer’s coattails! He’s nothing on his own!” Cathy Li said angrily.

Cathy was clearly furious.

“Exactly. Without Summer Mu backing him up, Evan would’ve been beaten up by Heng-ge ages ago.”

Liam nodded, his eyes full of disdain.

He's nothing but a country bumpkin who thinks he's tough just because he can throw a few punches.

Next time we meet, as long as we’re ready, we’ll take him down for sure.
