It was already afternoon by the time they returned to Brightsea City.
Yolanda Fang called Ethan Yi, found out he was playing soccer, got his location, said goodbye to Evan Lin, and eagerly ran off to watch the game.
That left Evan Lin and Lynn Chen waiting by the roadside for a taxi.
"How do you know Summer Mu?"
Lynn Chen glanced at Evan Lin, hesitated for a moment, and finally asked.
Evan Lin was just a poor kid from Whitewood County—how could he possibly know someone from River City's Summer Family?
Lynn Chen just couldn't accept it, especially since Summer Mu didn’t seem easy to approach. At least yesterday, he barely spoke to anyone.
"He bought me a drink. That's how we met." Evan Lin replied calmly.
"He bought you a drink? Yeah, right. Why would he buy you a drink?" Lynn Chen frowned, feeling Evan Lin was getting less and less honest.
"I don’t know why, but he really did buy me a drink." Evan Lin shrugged, a little helpless.
He was telling the truth, but Lynn Chen obviously didn’t believe him. What could he do about that?
Fine, don’t tell me. But I’d advise you not to get too close to him. I’ve heard that people from those big families are really scheming, and they have plenty of friends—and enemies. Don’t end up trying to borrow their power and getting burned instead." Lynn Chen said seriously, looking at Evan Lin.
Evan Lin couldn’t be bothered to argue, which made Lynn Chen grit her teeth in frustration.
By the way, why do you keep saying that uncle is sick? You run your mouth like that, and it’s only because he’s so good-natured that you’re not already beaten up. If it were someone else, you’d probably have been punched to death by now." Lynn Chen said, remembering the incident.
They’d have to be able to beat me first. Besides, he really is sick.
Evan’s words made Lynn Chen grind her teeth again. She turned away, but thought to herself—
Evan Lin is getting more boastful by the day. Just one look and he says someone’s sick? Is he supposed to be some miracle doctor?
And nobody can beat you? That sounds exactly like the kind of thing a cocky grade-schooler would say." Lynn Chen instinctively stepped away from Evan Lin.
I thought you’d changed a bit, but you’re still just as superficial as ever. And with Evan Lin’s grades, who knows if he’ll even get into college? Senior year’s coming up soon, and even if he does know the Summer Family, so what?" Lynn Chen sighed to herself.
In the end, Evan Lin and I are still people from two different worlds.
