Although his voice was quiet and most people didn’t hear it, Jace Jia’s natural hearing was freakishly sharp, and he caught every single word the middle-aged man said. Slowly, he walked over to the man’s table and said, “Repeat exactly what you just said, word for word—and say it loud so this young master can hear it!”
Arrogant, domineering—that was Evan Chu’s first impression of this young master. For Evan, seeing this kind of drama play out in a restaurant was basically free entertainment. He turned to Sean Xiao and asked, “Sean, do you think that middle-aged guy will actually say it out loud?”
“I bet he will. That kid is Skyspear City’s resident tyrant—nobody wants to offend him. He’s got a top-tier powerhouse backing him. Unless that man’s an idiot, or a powerhouse himself, he’ll definitely cave,” Sean Xiao replied.
“Heh, let’s see if you’re right. Maybe this young master will be our breakthrough point for taking Skyspear City. Sure, wiping out the city would be easy, but actually luring out the top experts inside is a whole different story,” Evan Chu laughed.
The middle-aged man just glanced at the young master, then kept drinking, ignoring him completely. Jace Jia’s face turned ugly—he was the City Lord’s son, and some nobody actually dared ignore him like he was nothing? That was a total slap in the face.
Jace immediately stormed over, flipped the man’s table, and shouted, “When this young master talks to you, you play deaf? You must have a death wish! Boys, beat him up—don’t stop until he spits out the truth!”
Jace’s words were basically law—his lackeys rushed over, fists cocked, ready to dish out a beating. But shockingly, the middle-aged man didn’t dodge at all, just sat there while their punches couldn’t even touch his clothes. From afar, Evan Chu found it a bit unbelievable.
“Didn’t expect the middle-aged guy to be a hidden expert. Looks like we really misjudged him,” Evan Chu remarked.
It was obvious—the man had set up an energy barrier around himself, which was why those punches couldn’t even get close. Setting up an invisible energy shield like that was no small feat; even Evan Chu himself probably couldn’t pull it off.
“This guy’s at least Third-Layer Venerable Martial Realm. No wonder he isn’t scared of those punks. In Skyspear City, a Third-Layer Venerable is a big deal. City Lord Thomas Jia loves recruiting strong experts—if he finds out his useless son messed with someone like this, he’ll beat him half to death,” Sean Xiao chuckled.
“Honestly, I’d love to see that arrogant punk get a beating. The only question is whether someone will actually grant our wish,” Evan Chu laughed.
Evan’s voice wasn’t loud, but Jace Jia still caught it—and he’d overheard Sean Xiao’s comments too. Learning that the middle-aged man was at least Third-Layer Venerable Martial Realm left him rattled. Offending someone like that could get him killed in a single move.
When his lackeys attacked, Jace immediately sensed something was off. They were all spoiled clan brats, sure, but even the weakest among them was at Sixth-Layer Saint Martial Realm—yet not one of them could even touch the guy’s clothes. That said everything about how strong he was.
He couldn’t afford to provoke the man, but he couldn’t just lose face either. So he said to the middle-aged man, “Didn’t expect you to be a real expert. My dad’s the City Lord of Skyspear City, and he loves making friends with powerful cultivators. If you’re interested, you should visit the City Lord’s Mansion—he’ll give you whatever you want.”
The middle-aged man glanced at Jace Jia and snapped, “If you don’t want to die, get lost. Don’t get in my way while I’m drinking, or I’ll take your little life.”
Jace wanted to blow up, but thinking about the guy’s strength, he could only swallow his anger. Still, he had someone else to take it out on—the brat who’d been laughing at him. So he said to the middle-aged man, “This young master’s in a good mood today, so I’ll let you off. Next time you disrespect me, I’ll show you what real trouble looks like.”
Everyone eating in the hall found it hilarious. Jace Jia had finally met his match. After years of acting like a tyrant, it was about time someone put him in his place. Too bad the middle-aged man didn’t actually do anything to him—probably because he didn’t want to offend City Lord Thomas Jia.
Jace Jia’s lackeys regrouped around him. One asked, “Boss, you’re just letting this go? Sure, the guy’s strong, but this is Skyspear City—it’s your turf. Who would you ever be afraid of here?”
“Shut up. If you really want to vent, go beat up that brat over there—the one who thinks it’s funny to see me embarrassed. Make sure you beat him half to death.” Jace Jia pointed at Evan Chu.
Evan Chu smiled. So this guy wanted to take his anger out on him? Perfect—let’s use him to lure out Skyspear City’s hidden experts.
“Man, some dogs just love barking everywhere. The second they piss off someone out of their league, they start taking it out on others. The world’s really going downhill—dogs like that never live long!” Evan Chu laughed.
Evan’s voice rang out loud and clear—everyone in the hall heard it. They all looked at him, wondering if he was crazy or just had a death wish, mouthing off to Skyspear City’s number-one troublemaker.
Jace Jia was instantly furious at Evan’s words. He couldn’t mess with a Venerable, but was he supposed to take crap from some punk kid too? “You’ve got guts, kid. Daring to talk to me like that—don’t even think about leaving alive today!”
As soon as he finished, the other clan brats rushed Evan, flipping the table. “You dare disrespect Young Master Jia? Today we’ll make sure you beg for death but can’t die!”
One of them shot out a punch, the wind howling. He thought he’d injure Evan for sure, but when he threw the punch, Evan slipped away without making a sound.
“So you’re Jace Jia, huh? Pretty impressive, attacking this young master. But do you even know who I am? Believe it or not, I could kill you in a single move!” Evan Chu appeared right in front of Jace Jia.
“You think you’re worthy of calling yourself ‘young master’ in front of me? No matter who you are, today you’re not leaving alive! Boys, get him!” Jace Jia roared.
Evan Chu glanced at Sean Xiao and said, “You handle these guys—leave that brat alive, but kill the rest. I’ll wait outside!” With a flash, he teleported out of the restaurant.
Sean Xiao looked aggrieved. “Seriously? Why is it always me?”
