Slaying the Enemy with Soul Rend

1/19/2026

At this moment, Evan Chu and the Mad Butcher Demon General had both suffered grievous injuries under each other's attacks—neither could claim the upper hand, and it was a true clash of equals. The pain from the wounds all over Evan's body had already left him numb.

But being invaded by the Mad Butcher Demon General’s demonic qi was a torment on a whole other level. The corrosion was excruciating, especially where his wounds had split open—the flesh there was rotting away at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the injuries kept spreading.

Evan’s defensive power was already freakishly strong, and his recovery was astonishing. But right now, his regeneration simply couldn’t keep pace with the corrosion. In just a few moments, his internal organs were exposed—it was brutally overwhelming.

Still, no matter how vicious the demonic qi was, it wasn’t infinite. Thanks to the wood element’s unique healing power, the corrosion gradually stabilized, and his wounds began to slowly knit back together.

The process was slow and agonizing. But the Mad Butcher Demon General wasn’t faring much better—the destructive force of Evan’s fused Fivefold Element‑Shift had crippled even his monstrous regeneration, and black demonic blood kept pouring from his wounds in a truly shocking display.

Neither of them made any big moves—both focused entirely on healing. Time ticked by, and whoever recovered first would have a chance to kill the other. Right now, it was a contest of pure recovery ability.

In this, Evan had the clear advantage. Once the wood element fully purged the demonic qi from his body, his wounds quickly closed and healed as if nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, the Mad Butcher Demon General had only recovered about half his strength. Evan didn’t hesitate—he gripped the Frostbane Sword and unleashed another full‑force Heaven‑Cleave, fused with the power of all five elements, right at his opponent.

The spatial black hole kept trembling, and the devastating attack erupted in an instant. The Mad Butcher Demon General slashed back with his sword, but his strike was clearly weaker than before.

Their attacks collided immediately. The demonic sword‑light was quickly shredded by Evan’s five‑element power, while the sword‑qi from the Frostbane Sword landed squarely on the Mad Butcher Demon General.

Evan kept searching his mind for a way to deal with a soul. He vaguely remembered there was a technique that could inflict huge damage on souls, but for a moment, he just couldn’t recall it.

After a while, Evan’s eyes suddenly lit up. "How could I forget about Soul Rend? I always thought only Earthsplitter and Heaven‑Cleave were real attack techniques, but Soul Rend—I only ever used it once. Now, this is the perfect time. It might not have much physical power, but against souls, it’s deadly."

With that thought, Evan moved. Even surrounded by miasma, he wasn’t trapped. The Frostbane Sword flashed out several times, and each sword‑qi strike blasted open a huge gap in the miasma. Evan seized the chance and teleported out.

But the miasma stuck to him like a shadow, matching his teleportation speed exactly. Evan found it strange—no matter how many times he teleported, he couldn’t shake it off, and he started to get anxious.

"Evan, the reason you can’t get rid of the miasma is because some of it’s still stuck to you. As long as you carry any miasma, you can’t escape. So right now, you need to purge it all—once it can’t cling to you, you’ll be free to teleport away." Luna advised.

Evan instantly understood. He unleashed Wood‑Shift, flooding his body with wood‑element power to cleanse the miasma, while teleporting again and again through the black hole’s void.

He had no idea how long it took, but finally, Evan felt the miasma had been completely cleared away. He teleported one last time—this time, the black miasma couldn’t latch onto him and was left far behind in the void.

Seizing the moment, Evan shouted, “Mad Butcher Demon General, die!” The Frostbane Sword flashed with a greenish sword‑light as Evan shot forward, appearing in front of the black miasma like a bolt of lightning.

He slashed the green sword‑light straight into the black miasma. Instantly, a miserable scream rang out from within. "Lord Frostbane, what technique is that? How can it hurt me?"

"Heh, Mad Butcher Demon General, you really are ignorant. You don’t even know about my Soul Rend? Didn’t you think your miasma was invincible? Today, I’ll wipe out your body and soul!" Evan declared coldly.

He unleashed Soul Rend again and again, splitting the black miasma into several chunks that couldn’t merge back together. Evan knew Mad Butcher Demon General wasn’t truly dead yet—he’d have to destroy every trace of miasma to finish him off. Facing the terrifying power of these demon generals, Evan couldn’t help but feel a chill in his heart…

Evan kept up the assault, each slash of Soul Rend tearing the miasma further apart. He could feel the soul within it weakening, but he didn’t dare relax for a second.

The broken pieces of miasma writhed and tried to reform, but Evan pressed his advantage, pouring more elemental power into the Frostbane Sword and unleashing another Soul Rend.

Mad Butcher Demon General’s agonized screams echoed through the black hole’s void, growing weaker with each attack. "Impossible! My soul... How can you destroy me like this?"

Evan’s eyes were cold as ice. "You demons from the Demonic Realm think you’re invincible, but today you’ll learn what true despair is!"

He didn’t stop. Soul Rend slashed out again, the greenish sword‑light burning through the last remnants of miasma.

Finally, with a final, desperate shriek, the last fragments of Mad Butcher Demon General’s soul were annihilated, leaving only fading echoes in the void.

Evan stood alone in the black hole’s emptiness, breathing hard. The battle was won, but he felt no joy—only a lingering sense of caution and awe at the strength of his enemies.

He quietly vowed to himself: no matter how strong the demon generals were, he would surpass them all. He would never give such monsters a chance to revive.

With the threat eliminated, Evan turned and prepared to leave the spatial black hole, his mind already racing ahead to the next looming challenge.

But deep inside, he knew—this victory was only the beginning. The real war against the Demonic Realm was still to come...
