Can She Survive
As soon as Quentin Lin finished speaking, Dr. Rowan Lin slapped him hard across the face, the sound ringing out as Quentin fell to the ground.
Dr. Rowan Lin glared at Quentin Lin, trembling with rage. "You—you unfilial child! You want to gamble with your life? Are you trying to drive your parents to their graves?!"
Quentin Lin covered his face but stubbornly got up from the ground. "So what if it's a gamble? I won't lose! If I back down now, who else can save the baby's life?!"
"You! You unfilial child!" Dr. Rowan Lin was beside himself with anger. He only had this one precious son—no matter how much he scolded or punished him, Quentin was always cherished. But now Quentin wanted to risk his life for a newborn with mental challenges!
Seeing the father and son at odds, Belle spoke up: "Dr. Rowan Lin, please don't be angry. Medicine can never guarantee absolute success. Even if Quentin fails, I won't blame him, nor will I hold him responsible. If anyone's to blame, it's me for being an incompetent mother—and my child for her lack of fortune."
Belle sighed, clutching her chest, her heart wracked with pain. "Honestly, if we can't get through this, and Heaven decides to take her away, maybe in her next life she'll be born into a good family and grow up healthy. That wouldn't be so bad, would it?"
Moved by Belle's words and Quentin Lin's determination, Eugene Warren looked down at his daughter in his arms. He stepped forward, crouched before Quentin, and solemnly said, "Quentin, I entrust my child to you. Please do everything you can to save her. If... if anything happens, it's just her fate—her life was never meant to be long."
Quentin Lin looked at Eugene Warren and Belle, wiping his tears fiercely. "I will do everything I can!"
Seeing this, Dr. Rowan Lin stormed off in a huff, his sleeves flapping, determined to get out of sight.
Quentin Lin immediately told Su Li to gather all the healthy servants, maids, and guards in the manor—he needed to test their blood types and find someone matching the baby's.
Fortunately, the baby was just born, so a full blood exchange wouldn’t require much blood—unlike with adults, where it would take many donors to supply enough.
Under Su Li’s orders, everyone cooperated in an orderly fashion. Simon Yu stayed behind to examine the health of the blood donors, making sure no one had infectious diseases or other illnesses.
Eugene Warren and his mother joined the line to donate blood. Both wondered quietly—if the transfusion needed a blood relative, why not just use theirs? Why look for someone else?
Quentin Lin set up his equipment in a room, making sure everything was ready. He tested the baby’s blood first—it was type A.
Next, everyone lined up to have their blood tested.
After several tense hours, Quentin Lin finally selected twenty healthy type A donors from the Prince of Qin’s household, including the child’s biological father, Eugene Warren.
With the donors assembled and all the equipment ready, Quentin Lin asked Simon Yu to assist him. After all, they were both doctors—neither would faint at the sight of blood.
Quentin Lin briefly taught Simon Yu how to find a vein and draw blood. Simon learned eagerly, though he couldn’t help but wonder—he’d never seen such a strange method, using a hollow needle to draw blood from the body.
But Simon Yu didn’t have time for questions now. He followed Quentin’s instructions, drawing blood from the donors and collecting it in the blood bottles Quentin provided.
In the inner room, Quentin Lin brought in the freshly drawn blood and began the most dangerous part of the treatment: the blood exchange for the baby.
Whether the baby would survive depended entirely on this moment.
