Have You Found the Culprit?
Quentin Lin and Simon Yu were treating the infant in a separate courtyard, while everyone else gathered in Belle's yard, anxiously waiting for news.
Su Li clutched her skirt nervously, her fingers turning pale from the force.
Whether Quentin Lin could succeed not only concerned Belle's child's life, but also the fate of her own unborn baby.
"Darling!" Outside, Alexander Hayes strode in hurriedly. As Su Li looked up and saw him, the tears she'd been holding back instantly spilled over.
"Your Highness, our child..." Su Li threw herself into Alexander Hayes' arms, sobbing uncontrollably. "It's my fault. I didn't protect our baby."
"Darling..." Alexander Hayes looked at Su Li, now a mess of tears. Thinking of the poison in her womb and the likelihood their child would be born impaired, his heart twisted in pain.
"Darling, I'm investigating this thoroughly. I will find the one who poisoned you and make them pay a thousandfold!" Alexander Hayes' eyes flashed coldly, more terrifying than ever before.
Anyone who dared harm his wife and child had crossed the line of a man's instinct to protect his family—and would face Alexander Hayes' harshest revenge!
Su Li, tears streaming down her face, nodded, though her heart was still in turmoil.
Even if the culprit was found now, the damage was done. For Su Li, the poison already affected the fetus, threatening its neurological development.
Alexander Hayes held Lily Evans back, gently patting her on the back and comforting her softly.
Lily Evans leaned into Alexander's embrace, the tension she'd held for so long finally leaving her feeling utterly drained.
Night was falling, but Quentin Lin was still treating Belle's baby, and the process was far from over.
Lily Evans sent someone to ask, and the answer was that Quentin Lin worried the baby was too small to handle a fast blood exchange, so the process was extremely slow and wouldn't finish until morning.
"Darling, waiting here all night won't help. Let's come back in the morning," Alexander coaxed. "If you stay up, the child suffers with you too."
Lily Evans bit her lip, nodded, and told the servants to take good care of Belle. Then she followed Alexander Hayes back to their room and lay down to sleep.
Lily Evans fell asleep quickly, but Alexander Hayes couldn't sleep at all. As long as the culprit who harmed his wife and child remained at large, he couldn't rest or eat in peace.
Out in the corridor, Sean Shaw knelt on one knee, looking solemn. "Your Highness, I've thoroughly investigated every suspicious person in the manor, but... but there's nothing. We still don't know how the poison got into Princess Consort and Belle's food, or who did it."
"You found nothing!?" Alexander Hayes stared at Sean in disbelief.
Sean Shaw was sweating profusely. "I've sent people to check again, in case we missed something. Your Highness, Princess Consort's meals have always been handled by the most trusted staff—outsiders have no chance to touch her food. I've investigated everyone who could possibly be the poisoner, but there's no sign of the culprit among them..."
Alexander Hayes knew that the security at Prince of Qin’s Manor was stricter than the palace itself, and Sean Shaw was highly capable. If even Sean couldn't find the poisoner, this person must be hiding deep and be extremely skilled!
"Keep searching. We must drag that person out!" Alexander Hayes ordered angrily.
"Yes, Your Highness!" Sean Shaw accepted the command and hurried off, his mind tangled with doubts and confusion...
