Have You Gotten Engaged

Grace let out a sigh of relief. "Commander Guo, I really can't thank you enough."

"You don't need to be so formal with me," Justin Guo replied.

"Tomorrow at noon, I'll ask the general for leave, and you can come have lunch at the stables! I'll cook myself, and invite Stablemaster, Aiden, and Leon too. How about it?" Grace asked.

"No need," Justin Guo refused.

"But I promised I'd treat you to a meal!" Grace insisted.

Justin Guo took a deep breath, deciding it was time to be honest with her.

Lily Bai was just too beautiful, and after much hesitation, he missed his chance.

"Goldie, there's something I've always wanted to ask you."

"What is it?" Grace noticed his serious expression and asked earnestly.

"Are you engaged?"

"Huh?" Grace was caught off guard by the question and froze for a moment.

"Do you?" Justin Guo looked at her nervously.

"...No."

"Goldie, I really like you!" Justin Guo's face flushed, his voice slightly hurried. "Will you marry me?"

Grace: "What?"

"Not as a concubine! As my wife!" Justin Guo clarified.

"Um... um..."

"Goldie, I'm being sincere. If you agree to marry me, I promise I'll treat only you well for my whole life. I won't even glance at another woman!"

Uh... Justin Guo, I'm not a spiritual practitioner. Even if you want to marry me, your family wouldn't approve." He'd helped her so much, Grace didn't want to reject him outright, so she used this excuse.

Unexpectedly, Justin Guo replied, "My parents passed away long ago, and I have no siblings. It's just me. So, if you marry me, there won't be any obstacles."

Grace nervously fiddled with her sleeve. "Thank you, Justin Guo, for thinking so highly of me. But the general has ordered that if a guard and a maid are caught having an affair, both will be executed. So I can't—"

"Do you like me, even a little?" Justin Guo interrupted anxiously.

How did it end up like this? Grace wailed inwardly.

He really looked more serious than ever.

Grace genuinely didn't want to hurt him.

"I—"

"Oh no!" Grace was just about to politely decline when a voice suddenly rang out.

Both of them jumped in surprise and turned to see Louis Lin.

He looked like he'd been shoved out from behind the bushes, nearly falling flat on his face.

"Louis Lin?" Justin Guo frowned and walked over to check behind the bushes where he'd been hiding. No one else was there. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing!" Louis Lin said. "The general is looking for Goldie! I came out to find her. What were you two talking about?"

"Nothing, just talking about the Silver Dragon Horse," Justin Guo replied.

"Are you done? The general is looking for you! Goldie, hurry back."

"Okay!" Grace let out a sigh of relief, said goodbye to Justin Guo, and left.

Once she was gone, Justin Guo grabbed Louis Lin by the collar. "Did you hear everything?"

Louis Lin sighed. "Bro, you'd better get your things packed!"

"Are you going to report me to the general?"

Louis Lin pointed at Justin Guo, exasperated. "How can you be so clueless?"

"What do you mean?"

"Did you really think I was pushed out here by a ghost?"

"Who else was there just now?"

Louis Lin whispered, "The general."

Justin Guo's face changed dramatically.

"Do you know why the general didn't come out himself, but pushed me out instead? It's because he issued a strict order forbidding guards and maids from having affairs, but he doesn't want to hurt Goldie. So he pretended not to know, pushed me out, and then left."
