Confrontation at the Door (2)

12/2/2025

Roxy rushed straight into Morgan's arms, nuzzling close. "Mom... I missed you so much..."

Morgan froze for a moment. "You can talk now?" She glanced at Ethan—if Roxy could speak, surely he could too!

She'd thought that even if they were clever, their growth wouldn't be so rapid. But clearly, they're developing fast!

Damien shot a look at Ethan, frowning. Surprisingly, he no longer looked ready for a fight; instead, he quietly got up and walked out. Ethan glanced at Morgan and Roxy, then drifted out after him.

Outside, Damien looked at the floating Ethan and asked, "What happened?" Ethan was never clingy. If he'd come all the way to the Ghost Gate, something was wrong! And Roxy usually found ways to amuse herself—she wasn't like other children, always sticking to her mother.

Ethan glanced at him and said simply, "Quentin is dying. Roxy doesn't know yet."

Hearing this, Damien frowned. "Where is Quentin now?" He might seem cold and ruthless, but Quentin was the only person he considered a friend. He wouldn't just watch him die!

Ethan replied coolly with just three words: "No idea."

Damien paused, then frowned. "Don't let Roxy find out yet." He immediately sent someone to investigate Quentin's whereabouts.

The Lotus Sect had been acting strange lately. He should have paid more attention, but thought it was just someone scheming in the shadows. He knew Quentin's abilities far exceeded what people realized, and trusted him not to betray him—so he hadn't taken it seriously. Now, it seemed things were much more serious than he'd imagined!

Ethan gave him a long, meaningful look. "You're not as heartless as you pretend to be."

Damien smiled. "Same goes for you."

The two exchanged smiles, suddenly feeling much closer.

Morgan watched the two come back peacefully, raising an eyebrow. She'd always known Ethan and Damien were alike—cold, seemingly heartless, but not truly without feeling. Their emotions were reserved for those who mattered; for anyone else, they wouldn't waste a drop, which was why they seemed so ruthless.

Ethan Gray drifted over to the soft couch beside Morgan Shangguan and lay down, closing his eyes as if deep in thought. Morgan smiled to herself, feeling a pang of emotion—others found raising one child exhausting, but with two, she felt surprisingly at ease!

Damien Gray also sat down on the couch, watching Ethan Gray frown. He reached out to help, but Morgan Shangguan quickly grabbed his hand and shook her head. "Let him do it himself! Ethan still has plenty of potential left to unlock. If you help him, it won't do him any good."

She had noticed long ago that Ethan was overexerting himself, but hadn't stepped in to help—for exactly this reason.

Roxy Shangguan had already fallen asleep in Morgan Shangguan's arms. Morgan could sense her daughter's emotional turmoil, and finally asked what had happened.

Upon learning about Quentin Hua's situation, Morgan Shangguan couldn't help but frown. Quentin Hua was the son-in-law she'd chosen! Roxy still didn't know, and her emotions were already so unstable—if she found out Quentin Hua was dead, who knew what she'd do!

She also knew that Ethan Gray hadn't kept Quentin Hua around, understanding she couldn't help, either.

Now all they could do was hope Quentin Hua wouldn't die so easily.

They say you control your own fate, and it's true—human will is powerful. The real worry was that Quentin Hua had no regrets left, and no desire to keep living.

Morgan Shangguan reached out to gently stroke Roxy Shangguan's small face, sighing. She'd thought that with her and Damien Gray's protection, Ethan Gray and Roxy Shangguan could grow up happy. But now, it seemed surprises were inevitable—some things are always beyond our control.

Damien Gray pulled her into his arms, kissed her forehead, and whispered, "Quentin Hua's abilities are no less than mine!" So, if he could survive, Quentin Hua wouldn't die so easily either.

For Damien Gray to say such a thing only proved how extraordinary Quentin Hua was.

"Sect Master..."

Lily Ling had urgent news to report. Seeing the door open, she walked right in, only to see a warm family scene—Morgan Shangguan holding Roxy Shangguan, nestled in Damien Gray's arms, with Ethan Gray sleeping nearby. The sight was so heartwarming she hesitated to interrupt.

Lily Ling stared at the touching family, but couldn't help worrying. What about the Cloud Guildmaster? If she found out the Sect Master had betrayed her—and even had children—would she come for revenge? The tension between the Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild had been rising every day. Was it just a show, or was it really a matter of love and hate?

She'd only ever seen the Sect Master's gentle expression and actions twice—once for the Cloud Guildmaster, and now for this woman. So who did the Sect Master truly love? Or did he love them both?

Honestly, she hoped the Sect Master loved a woman. Even if he didn’t care what others said, rumors were dangerous. Who knew if the Righteous Path would attack again because of it? The Ghost Guild wasn’t afraid, but constant assaults were still a hassle.

Still, she felt the Sect Master and Cloud Guildmaster were the better match—both strong, both invincible. They seemed meant to be together, ruling the world side by side.

The more she thought about it, the more tangled she became. Who should she support? In the end, she found herself amused—was it really her place to worry about the Sect Master’s love life? Whatever happened, as long as he was happy, that was enough!

She actually thought the Sect Master was becoming more popular, less intimidating than before—which wasn’t a bad thing! As for everything else, who cared? If the Sect Master was happy, what did it matter if he had someone on each arm? She trusted he could keep the peace in his own household.
