Damien Gray watched Lily Ling's ever-changing expression and frowned, asking, "What is it?"
At his words, Lily Ling snapped back to attention, her face turning serious as she spoke, "Guildmaster, you asked me to keep an eye on the Ye Sect for a long time. Shuyang Ye has always been quiet, but recently he suddenly snuck off to pay respects at Consort Bella's grave! Shuyang Ye is usually very cautious and never leaves any clues, but this time he was so secretive that we almost lost track of him while following!"
Damien Gray frowned at this. Could Shuyang Ye be connected to Consort Bella? If so, then that mysterious power likely does come from the Ye Sect!
After a brief moment of thought, Damien Gray instructed, "Invite Master Ye to the Ghost Guild as a guest!" He paused, then added, "Bring Miss Ye along as well! Some people may not fear death, but even the bravest have their weaknesses."
After Lily Ling left to carry out her orders, Morgan Shangguan couldn't help but ask, "What is it about the Ye Sect that draws so much attention from you, Ghostmaster?" Earlier, he had brought Yuna Ye to the palace, found nothing, and sent her away, but it seemed he still hadn't given up.
Damien Gray picked up Roxy Shangguan from Morgan's arms, set her gently on the soft couch, then pulled Morgan into his embrace and whispered, "Growing up safely was not just thanks to my master's protection."
Morgan Shangguan's interest was piqued. "Are you saying someone was secretly protecting you?"
Damien Gray nodded, his eyes deep and mysterious. "More than one power was involved."
Morgan Shangguan frowned. Who would go to such lengths to protect Damien Gray? For a baby like him, there couldn't have been many connections, so it must have something to do with Consort Bella!
If it were related to Emperor Alexander, that seemed unlikely. At that time, he most wanted Damien Gray dead. Even if he regretted it later, judging by his attitude toward Damien Gray afterward, there's no way he would have sent anyone to protect him!
"Are you saying one of those powers is connected to Shuyang Ye?" Shuyang Ye secretly paid respects to Consort Bella Simon, so he must be related to her. That means one of those powers likely comes from the Ye Sect—the power left behind by Consort Bella.
But where did the other power come from?
Damien Gray stroked her hair and spoke softly, "Both powers are formidable and well-hidden. I've discovered that one is related to the Ye Sect, but Shuyang Ye has always been so cautious that nothing seemed amiss. Now it seems he's connected to my mother, but as for the other power, there's not a single clue to be found!"
Morgan Shangguan couldn't help but frown. If even the Ghost Guild couldn't uncover a single trace, then this force must be formidable. Yet so far, apart from the Ghost Guild, Cloud Guild, and that mysterious figure lurking in the shadows, she hadn't sensed any other powerful factions. Was it just hidden too well?
Shuyang Ye and Yuna Ye had been forcibly summoned. Damien Gray sat with Morgan Shangguan in his arms, ignoring Shuyang Ye's indignant expression, occasionally sneaking affectionate touches with Morgan, their intimacy obvious even with two witnesses present.
Shuyang Ye snorted coldly. He had thought the Ghostmaster's only redeeming trait was his lack of lust, but it turned out that was a lie. Surrounded by such a stunning woman and still so shamelessly handsy in public—at least there were two witnesses here. How could this be called restraint? He was nothing but a lustful ghost!
Damien Gray continued to ignore him. Morgan Shangguan gave his waist a gentle pinch, signaling him to behave. If Shuyang Ye really had been his protector, even if he wasn't successful, he had at least made the effort! Still, it was unlikely Damien Gray would treat him as an honored guest.
Damien Gray frowned, leaning close to her lips as a signal for comfort. Morgan Shangguan smiled softly and complied with a gentle kiss. Only then did Damien Gray finally glance at Shuyang Ye and say, "I invited Master Ye here for one reason—I have something I need to clarify!" In truth, he cared less about Shuyang Ye's power and more about the other mysterious force he couldn't trace. He just wanted to see if Shuyang Ye knew anything more.
"Stop right there..."
"You little brat, stop right there! How dare you steal from me? If I catch you, I'll break your legs!"
The street was in chaos as two burly men chased a filthy little boy, knocking over people and stalls in their pursuit. The men were panting with exhaustion, but the boy was as slippery as an eel—impossible to catch!
Suddenly, the boy turned back, made a mocking face at the two men, waved the roasted chicken in his hand, and darted off again. The men, spurred on by his provocation, resumed their relentless chase.
The boy dashed into a deserted alley. The men grinned wickedly—one followed him into the alley, while the other ran to the opposite exit, planning to trap him inside.
But when they stood at both ends of the alley, what they saw was the boy happily devouring the roasted chicken that had once belonged to them. Beside him were several other children, their eyes wide and mouths watering at the sight.
With both ends of the alley blocked, the other children grew fearful. One timidly asked, "Boss, what do we do?" If they were caught, they'd surely be beaten to death!
Maxwell Jing glanced lazily at the men at both ends of the alley and said, "If you want to eat roasted chicken, get to work. If you want to get beaten, just wait for them to catch you!"
At his words, the children exchanged glances. A little girl clenched her fists and declared, "Listening to Brother Max is always right!"
"That's right, listen to the boss!" The girl's words were quickly echoed by the others. Thinking of their past experiences, they didn't hesitate any longer and began their pre-assigned tasks.
It was clear Maxwell Jing had real authority; all the children listened to him. Since he arrived, their lives had improved greatly. If not for his cleverness, they might have starved long ago.
No one ever suspects children, so when the kids loudly taunted the men at the alley's entrance, mocking them for losing a mere chicken, the two men turned red with rage. They never realized it was a trap, and in their fury, rushed forward—only to trip over something and fall to the ground with a cry of pain.
