Things May Not Be Well
"Quentin, what do you mean things are different? Didn’t Belle and I get poisoned by the same thing?" Lily Evans’s heart, which had just calmed down, clenched with worry again.
Quentin Lin lowered his head to hide the concern in his eyes and fibbed, "Oh, it’s because Belle had a girl, while you’re carrying a boy, so your situations aren’t quite the same."
Lily listened to Quentin’s explanation and her heart eased again. "Boy or girl, it’s all the same. The blood transfusion is just the same procedure, right? Quentin, don’t stress yourself out too much."
Quentin nodded and yawned. "Sis, I’m exhausted. I want to go home and sleep."
"Good boy, go on then," Lily said.
As Quentin headed out, Butler Yuan thanked him profusely and saw him to the door.
Quentin had saved Butler Yuan and Belle’s child—he was now their family’s greatest benefactor.
When Quentin walked into the courtyard, he bumped into Alexander Hayes.
Alexander already knew Belle’s baby was safe, but with Lily still in the birthing room, he couldn’t go in himself. All he could do was wait outside for Lily to come out.
"Brother-in-law, I’m dead tired. Can you take me home?" Quentin walked over and tugged on Alexander’s sleeve.
Alexander frowned slightly, studying Quentin.
Quentin was never a delicate child. Even after a whole night of transfusions, he still seemed energetic enough to run and jump—not so weak that he’d really need an escort.
But since Quentin made the request, there had to be a reason.
Alexander thought for a moment, then nodded and called toward the house, "Darling, Quentin’s worn out. I’ll take him home."
Lily called back, "Alright, Your Highness, please see Quentin home safely."
"Let’s go, Brother-in-law!" Quentin grabbed Alexander’s sleeve, and the two headed out together.
Quentin was only six, so walking next to the tall Alexander Hayes made him look even smaller and cuter—like a little sticky rice dumpling.
Once they left Belle’s courtyard, Alexander looked at Quentin. "Quentin, you asked me out here on purpose. Is something important going on?"
Quentin bit his lip and nodded. "It’s about Lily and the baby. I wanted to tell her, but she’s so worn out—physically and mentally. I’m afraid if she hears it now, it’ll be too much for her…"
Alexander’s heart sank. Quentin’s hint had already made him uneasy, but now, hearing it spelled out, his heart dropped to rock bottom. "Quentin, what do you mean?"
Quentin drooped his head and said, "I can't be certain yet. I need to ask my father and confirm something."
Alexander grunted, simply picked Quentin up and set him on his shoulder, then used his lightness skill to speed them to the Lin Residence.
Just as they reached Dr. Rowan Lin's study courtyard, they heard his angry voice inside: "Go to Prince Qin's Manor and see what trouble that rascal Quentin has caused! Blood transfusion—nonsense! If he harms that baby, how will I answer to the parents? Why did I raise such a stubborn, know-it-all son?"
Hearing Dr. Rowan Lin's scolding, Quentin hugged Alexander's head and exchanged a look with him.
Alexander carried Quentin straight into the study. Dr. Rowan Lin, who hadn't slept all night, immediately started scolding Quentin: "You rascal! You must have caused big trouble, huh? Now you know to get your brother-in-law to escort you home. If only you were this clever yesterday and didn't come up with that wild blood transfusion idea!"
