Cold and Rational

Jenna Kim couldn't believe it—she let go of Jay Kee's hand, staring at him and shaking her head. "Jay Kee, you shouldn't say things like that."

"Then what should I say?" Jay Kee looked at Jenna Kim with a mocking smile. "I've always known I'm not a good person, and I don't want to pretend to be one. If I'm going to be a bad guy, I'll go all the way—there's nothing wrong with that."

Sean Kim called out too, "Jay Kee!"

"Sean, you've known me for so many years. You know exactly what kind of person I am." Jay Kee's face turned cold. "I've never lied to your sister about my feelings, right? And I never lied to any other woman. Those women who got involved with me all knew what they were getting into—it was mutual consent."

Sean Kim and Jenna Kim both fell silent.

Jay Kee looked up at the sky. It was hazy, just like the shadows in his eyes.

"I was born into a poor family. Since I was a kid, I never got what I wanted. When my classmates wore Air Jordans, my family wouldn't even buy me a pair of Li-Ning. Do you know how much I longed for a pair of Jordans? You don't. To get a secondhand pair, I shamelessly flattered a chubby rich kid, became his lackey, and finally he gave me a pair. In that moment, I knew exactly what I wanted—wealth, status, power." Jay Kee spoke coldly. "And those are things my family could never give me."

"When I grew up, the things I wanted only grew. I wanted success, luxury cars, a mansion, to be the center of attention, to soar to the top—I wanted to be the most famous songwriter and composer. But you all know, these things aren't something you get just by working hard. People say my lyrics and music are inspired, but so what? I'm still a nobody. My painstaking works can only be sold for cheap."

"Do you know how much it hurts every time I have to sell my work for peanuts? Why is it that others can plagiarize a song and sell it for a fortune, but my original work only sells for scraps? Sometimes one song can't even buy me a pair of shoes! I can't accept this—my life shouldn't be so dull!"

"Since my parents gave me a decent face and a good body, why should I waste it? Why should I choose a poor girl and let my youth slip away? To be honest, even if I hadn't met Miss Miller, I would've found a rich woman and sold my looks to her—as long as she could give me what I wanted!"

"No! That's not true!" Jenna Kim couldn't take it anymore and screamed.

"This is exactly who I am! Selfish, fake, vain—I’ll do anything for money and fame." Jay Kee said coldly, "I know I’m not worthy of love. Trash like me is destined to be a rich person’s toy. But I don’t care. As long as the other person can give me everything I want, I’d even sell my feelings. That’s how I truly felt—until I met Miss Miller."

"At first, I approached her with that goal—because she’s rich. She can casually lend out a multimillion-dollar apartment without caring about rent. I poked around and found out she’s even wealthier and more powerful than I imagined. I locked onto her right away—I wanted to be hers."

"But as I spent more time with her, I discovered more and more of her shining qualities. She’s not just beautiful and well-off—she’s calm, mature, and never loses her cool, unlike you, who always shouts and cries when something happens. She’s always so composed and capable. In her, I saw what talent and beauty truly mean. In her, I saw perfection, the ultimate package. A woman like her is a goddess I never even dared dream of."

"I admit it—I really have fallen for her. I don’t just want to be hers, I want to stay by her side for as long as she needs me. I know what you’re going to say: someone like her would never marry a poor guy like me. It doesn’t matter. I don’t need a marriage certificate or any promises—I’m willing to follow her, no matter what."

Jay Kee pointed to his heart. "I’m rational, always have been. I know exactly what I’m facing, and I know how lost and hurt I’ll be if I ever lose her. But I don’t regret it. She can teach me so much and give me resources I never had before. I’ll seize those chances to become better, to be worthy of standing behind her."

"Jenna, if you want to blame someone, blame yourself for not being a rich heiress! Because I’m just that realistic. If you were like Miss Miller, I wouldn’t reject you—I’d chase after you." Jay Kee said coldly, "But you’re not. So there’s no hope for us!"

Jenna Kim screamed in despair, "Jay Kee, you can’t treat me like this!"

Sean Kim sighed, knowing Jay Kee was speaking from the heart.

Maybe it’s for the best that everything was laid out so clearly today.

"See, that's exactly the kind of jerk I am. Why waste your time on me?" Jay Kee lifted his chin, utterly cold. "You're good-looking, and I know plenty of guys chase after you. You can pick someone better than me."

Jenna Kim squatted on the ground, sobbing, "But none of them are you. I only like you!"

"People can love several times in their life. Losing me isn't the end—there will be plenty more." Jay Kee said, "Jenna, I see you as a sister, that's why I'm telling you this. I don't want to hurt you, but I also won't let you get in my way."

"Jay Kee, what if Miss Miller doesn't want you? What will you do then?" Jenna Kim cried uncontrollably. "How can you be sure there aren't better men around her?"

Jay Kee fell silent.

He really couldn't be sure.

In fact, what he did know for sure was about the Yin brothers.

Both of those brothers were incredibly handsome.

Especially the one who video-chatted with Miss Miller—he was honestly the most attractive man Jay Kee had ever seen.

Jay Kee admitted to himself—even ten of him couldn't compare to that guy.

But so what?

People always get tired eventually!

Even if that guy is incredibly handsome, so what?

Everyone has flaws!

If I work hard enough, I’ll definitely find strengths he doesn’t have!

"Looks like you really won't turn back," Sean Kim said, his voice heavy.

Jay Kee nodded.

"Alright then. I wish you all the best," Sean Kim said bitterly, then turned to Jenna Kim. "At this point, there’s no use forcing anything. Let’s go home!"

"No!" Jenna Kim stood up, trying to throw herself at Jay Kee, but he dodged her.

"Now that everything’s clear, I’m leaving." Jay Kee said coldly, "I hope this never happens again. And Jenna, don’t even think about sneaking up on Miss Miller or threatening her. Honestly, she always has bodyguards watching over her. I only found out by chance. Those guys are seriously strong—if you try to hurt her, I can’t promise you’ll make it out alive."

Jenna Kim was stunned.

She really had considered it.

"You can’t just meet a rich heiress whenever you want, and you definitely can’t threaten one. I don’t know which elite family Miss Miller belongs to, but from her manners, I’m sure she’s from one of the very top." Jay Kee said, "If you cross her, you’ll wish you hadn’t. Because we know each other, I’m warning you—she’s not someone you can mess with."

With that, Jay Kee turned and left without a second thought.

Sean Kim looked at his stunned sister and said quietly, "Jay Kee might be right. That Miss Miller—just one look and I could tell she’s not from our world. She’s too well-raised, not something you see in ordinary families."

"Bro, what about me? Am I just supposed to give up? I can’t accept it, I really can’t!" Jenna Kim cried in despair. "What if Miss Miller doesn’t want Jay Kee—would he come back to me? That heiress is so rich and powerful, she could have any man she wants, so why Jay Kee? If I just beg her..."

"Enough!" Sean Kim couldn’t take it anymore. "Even if Miss Miller doesn’t want Jay Kee, he still won’t come back to you! Give it up!"

Jenna Kim froze, then burst into tears.

After Jay Kee left, his mood didn’t lighten—in fact, it grew even darker.

He couldn’t even tell what he really felt for Cherry Miller anymore.

Deep down, he sensed that he truly had feelings for Cherry Miller.

What he’d just said to Jenna Kim wasn’t a lie—it was the truth.

But he also knew he wasn’t qualified to marry into an elite family.

If one day Cherry Miller rejected him, just like he rejected Jenna Kim today, would he be as devastated as Jenna?

Jay Kee didn’t dare think further—he forced the thought out of his mind.

It wasn’t the time to worry about that yet—he couldn’t give up now!

At least, Miss Miller hadn’t explicitly rejected him yet!

Jay Kee went back to his apartment on Shunjiang Road. He didn’t feel like looking for Cherry Miller, so he just lay on the sofa, zoning out.

Just then, Mason Ming came home. Seeing Jay Kee lying on the sofa, he asked, "People at the company were asking me why you didn’t come in today."

"Didn’t feel like it," Jay Kee muttered. "There’s nothing to do anyway."

Mason Ming thought about it and sat down across from him. "By the way, Sister Chen from PR said she wants to set you up with someone—apparently, she’s the daughter of a mid-level manager at the Yin Group... Hey, where are you going?"

Jay Kee didn’t wait for Mason Ming to finish—he got up and went straight to his room, not wanting to hear another word.

No matter how good she was, no one could compare to Miss Miller next door!
