Yina Yin burst out laughing, tears streaming down her face. "I can't wait to see my brother's reaction when he finds out about Jay Kee! It's going to be hilarious!"
Cherry Miller was just speechless.
What kind of little sister is this supposed to be?!
After finishing their simple work lunch, Yina Yin and Cherry Miller quickly got back to work.
Cherry Miller was incredibly efficient, and with her keeping Yina Yin on track, it was impossible for Yina to slack off.
They kept busy all afternoon, and before they knew it, it was time to clock out.
The afternoon negotiations with Prestige International didn't go anywhere, so, following Cherry Miller's suggestion, Yina Yin went out for dinner with their CEO.
Cherry Miller didn't want to tag along for the business dinner, so she sent other assistants and bodyguards instead, then drove herself home.
She still needed to prep for tomorrow's work ahead of time.
So she took her company laptop home with her.
She kept the family business running smoothly and efficiently.
Despite her privileged background, Cherry Miller was gentle and kind—completely different from those other heiresses.
If he missed out on her, Jay Kee might never meet someone so talented and well-off again.
Jay Kee kept swearing to himself that no matter how tough things got, he’d never give up on pursuing her.
Who knows—maybe he could leap into high society and become the son-in-law of a wealthy family!
Oh my god!
That’s a world he’d never even dared to imagine.
Jay Kee was lost in his wild thoughts, while Cherry Miller was already wrapping up her work for tomorrow.
After closing her laptop, Cherry Miller suddenly remembered Jay Kee was still in the dining room. She said, "You don’t have to do this anymore. I’ll probably be busy for a while, and might not be home for dinner every night."
"It’s no trouble at all—I just did it while I was at it," Jay Kee replied quickly. "Mason Ming and I owe you so much, I’ve always wanted to repay you. It’s just dinner, don’t be so polite with me."
Cherry Miller was a little hungry, and as the smell of food wafted over, her stomach started growling.
She didn’t stand on ceremony with Jay Kee and picked up her chopsticks to start eating.
"How is it?" Jay Kee asked, looking at Cherry Miller with anticipation.
"It’s good," Cherry Miller nodded politely.
Honestly, the taste was pretty average—nothing compared to the Yin Family’s chef.
But Cherry Miller made sure to give Jay Kee plenty of credit.
Sure enough, Jay Kee’s face lit up with a big smile.
They were still eating when Jay Kee’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen, then flipped it face-down on the table, ignoring the call.
"Why aren’t you answering?" Cherry Miller asked.
"Uh, it’s nothing urgent..." Jay Kee started to say, but his phone rang again.
It was as if the caller wouldn’t give up until Jay Kee picked up.
Jay Kee had no choice but to answer, stepping aside as he picked up: "Hello? What’s up?"
On the other end was a tired voice: "Jay Kee, Jenna Kim’s had too much to drink—she keeps insisting on seeing you."
The call was from Sean Kim.
Jenna Kim and Sean Kim were members of the underground band next to Jay Kee’s recording studio.
Jenna Kim had always had a crush on Jay Kee.
"Sean, I’ve made it clear—I’m never going to be with Jenna," Jay Kee said bluntly. "I have my own goals."
"I know," Sean Kim sounded genuinely helpless. "Jay Kee, for the sake of our years of friendship, can you come over? Maybe it’ll finally help my sister move on."
Jay Kee didn’t want to go.
Sean Kim added, "You don’t want Jenna to make a scene in front of your sponsor, do you? She’s impulsive—she could do anything."
"Are you threatening me?" Jay Kee said, clearly annoyed.
"It’s not a threat. If I wanted to threaten you, I’d have done it already," Sean Kim said quietly. "She’s my only sister—I can’t just watch her get hurt by you."
Jay Kee thought it over and realized dragging things out wouldn’t help. "Fine, I’ll come over," he said.
After hanging up, Jay Kee turned to Cherry Miller. "Miss Miller, I need to step out for a bit."
"Alright," Cherry Miller didn’t ask where he was going or what he was doing—he wasn’t someone she cared much about anyway.
Jay Kee left the house reluctantly and headed to the place Sean Kim had mentioned.
It was a row of street food stalls—a spot for everyday folks.
Jenna Kim and Sean Kim were sitting together, the table covered with empty bottles—they’d clearly had a lot to drink.
Jenna Kim slumped over the table, drunk and acting out: "Jay Kee, I want to see Jay Kee! I have to see him! I want to ask him why he doesn’t like me!"
Sean Kim kept trying to comfort her: "If he doesn’t like you, it’s because he’s blind! There are so many good guys out there—I’ll help you find someone even better!"
"There’s no one better! I only like him! Please, brother, help me and call Jay Kee over, okay? He’s the only one I want!" Jenna Kim sobbed and shouted. "Why doesn’t he like me? I’m a good person! So many people like me—why not him?"
That’s when Jay Kee arrived, his face dark as he sat down across from Jenna Kim. "Say whatever you want to say—let’s get it all out tonight."
Jenna Kim looked up at Jay Kee, at first thinking she was dreaming. After pinching her cheek and realizing it was real, she broke into a wide, happy grin. "Jay Kee, you came to see me! You really came! I knew you cared about me!"
Sean Kim gave Jay Kee a helpless look. "Let’s talk somewhere else," he suggested.
"No need," Jay Kee checked the time. "Let me make this quick. Jenna, stop wasting your time on me—I’ll never like you."
"Why?" Jenna Kim asked. "Is there something wrong with me?"
"It’s not that there’s anything wrong with you—I just won’t choose someone who’s poor," Jay Kee said directly. "I’ve always been clear about my goals: I want someone wealthy. I’ve never lied to you, so I don’t owe you anything. I’m not playing games, so you can’t blame me for this."
"You’re lying!" Jenna Kim shouted, her voice sharp.
"I’m not lying. I’m just telling you the truth," Jay Kee replied. "Honestly, I like Miss Miller—not just because she’s from a powerful family, but because of who she is. That’s my ideal type."
Sean Kim frowned. "Jay Kee, you’ll never be able to reach a rich heiress like that! We’re just regular people—we have to live regular lives. Even if you don’t like Jenna, you can still find someone ordinary and have a simple life."
"That’s my business, Sean," Jay Kee replied calmly. "I don’t need anyone telling me how to live. I like money—I want a luxurious life, and nobody’s going to stop me. I’ve made myself clear, so I’m leaving."
With that, Jay Kee stood up to go.
Jenna Kim panicked and grabbed him. "Don’t go! You like money, right? I’ll work hard and earn it! Whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you—just don’t leave me!"
"You?" Jay Kee scoffed. "How are you going to make money? That underground band of yours only makes a couple hundred bucks per show. Split it up, and each of you gets maybe two hundred. Even if you play every night, you’ll only make five or six thousand a month. After rent, how much do you have left? What makes you think you can buy me anything? You have money for that?"
Jenna Kim stared at him in disbelief. "Jay Kee, are you really going to sell yourself for money?"
"If I could sell myself to a smart, beautiful heiress like Miss Miller, why wouldn’t I? Why would I give up a bright future just to live a poor life with you? Jenna, wake up! The world has always been this realistic!"
