Battle at the Altar

2/27/2026

The Limitless Spear instantly burst into flames and stabbed straight at his opponent. The other party struck the Limitless Spear, clearly at a disadvantage. Furious, he retreated, then drew a double-handed sword and charged directly at Yang Han.

After a few exchanges, that double-handed sword was already full of cracks. Yang Han laughed, "Looks like your sword isn’t much after all."

"You—damn it! Using such a powerful artifact against me, what’s the point?" the Moon-Nether Beast fumed.

"Might makes right. Losers are just losers." Yang Han snorted coldly, then drove the Limitless Spear through the opponent’s right arm. The five-pronged tip pierced straight in, a terrifying sight. Gripping the Limitless Spear, Yang Han spun it instantly.

The Moon-Nether Beast’s expression changed drastically. Its arm was instantly crippled. Glaring at Yang Han, it spat, "You—you’re dead!"

"Looks like you’re the one who’s finished. Take this!" Yang Han yanked the Limitless Spear free and unleashed another flurry of spear techniques. In no time, his opponent was sprawled on the ground, revealing its true form.

Seeing the Moon-Nether Beast revert to a wolf-like form, its life hanging by a thread, Yang Han smiled and said, "Told you—you’re the one who’s finished."

"You won’t escape. Hmph, just wait. Even if I die, my soul lives on." In a flash, the Moon-Nether Beast’s soul vanished, and its body slowly dissipated. Yang Han frowned—this was too fast; he hadn’t even had time to act on its soul.

"It disappeared that quickly?" Yang Han muttered.

With the Moon-Nether Beast vanishing like that, Yang Han realized the Nether Sky Abyss was far from simple. He composed himself and continued searching the area. As before, he found several stone platforms, each emitting Nether-Origin Force.

Just as he was wondering how to escape this maze, a tunnel appeared ahead. Yang Han walked in, and when he emerged, he found himself at the very top of the Nether Sky Abyss, able to look down below.

Below was an altar, surrounded by tens of thousands of spirit beasts. These spirit beasts weren’t rampaging—they all retained clear consciousness, and every one was mutated.

“What are they doing here? And what’s that altar for?” Yang Han wondered, so he stayed above, watching the situation below.

At the altar, the mutated spirit beasts sat quietly while the altar continuously released Nether-Origin Force.

At last, an aged voice sounded from the altar: "You’ve all arrived, I see."

"Great master!" In an instant, the mutated spirit beasts greeted with utmost respect, as if meeting someone of great importance.

"Very good. Now, there’s an important task for you all. You must handle it well." The voice from the altar continued.

"Please instruct us, master." they replied in unison.

"Fine. Tonight, the outer grand formation will be broken. When that happens, you are to charge out and slaughter those detestable humans outside. The more you kill, the more power this place will grant you." the voice declared.

The mutated spirit beasts relished their current power and grew extremely excited.

Yang Han frowned. "They're going to break the formation? But the outer grand formation is so solid—how could the one giving orders possibly break it?"

Curious, Yang Han kept watching the situation below. The voice continued to rally the crowd, finally saying, "Now you can go out and get ready outside."

"Yes." The spirit beasts answered in unison and left. The mutated spirit beasts also began leaving one after another, until only a few remained. Seeing them, Yang Han muttered, "These guys really aren’t afraid of death, actually coming here to ask for help."

These mutated spirit beasts were the Pangolin Monster and its companions.

"Why aren’t you leaving?" the voice asked.

"Master, our power has been sealed by a human—a detestable human who sneaked in here," the Pangolin Monster said.

"What? You’re saying a human has infiltrated the Nether Sky Abyss?" The voice sounded shocked and suspicious.

"That’s right, just snuck in. Probably in the Moon-Nether Beast’s cave now—maybe already torn apart. But we still can’t move," said the Pangolin Monster.

"Let me see." The voice beckoned the Pangolin Monster and the other mutated beasts over. As they approached, the altar emitted a glow that enveloped them, and the voice inside said, "Three great taboo seals!"

"Master, what is this?" the Pangolin Monster asked.

"Nothing—looks like an impressive person has arrived. We’ve been searching for this intruder. Don’t worry, just stay here and I’ll give you power so you can move again," the altar’s master said.

Hearing they could move again, the mutated beasts were overjoyed and stayed put. Yang Han watched as black energy floated from the altar into the beasts’ foreheads, making them writhe in pain.

"Soon, very soon, you’ll be stronger and able to act," the voice laughed darkly.

What is this guy up to? Yang Han wondered, curious about the altar’s master and what was happening to the beasts.

But soon, Yang Han got his answer. They’d absorbed an excess of Nether-Origin Force, transforming and growing larger and more violent. In an instant, they were no longer themselves—their eyes glowed red, but they looked thrilled.

"Thank you, Master!" the Pangolin Monster exclaimed in delight.

"I’ve given you power ahead of time, so tonight you’d better work hard—wipe out those people outside for me," the voice said.

"We promise not to disappoint you, Master!" the mutated beasts replied together.

Then the mutated beasts vanished in a flash. Seeing this, Yang Han realized that when these beasts mutated again, his seals had come undone—probably because their internal structure had changed.

"A human actually infiltrated the Moon-Nether Beast’s lair? Courting death. I want to see if this person is really as strong as they say," the altar’s voice muttered.

Meanwhile, Yang Han had already gone invisible and slipped below. Seeing no trace of spirit beasts around, he muttered, "Where does this altar actually lead?"

Suspicious, Yang Han approached the altar. Just as he was about to enter, a force bounced him out, making him appear.

A shout came from inside the altar, "Who’s there!" When they saw Yang Han, they exclaimed, "So there really is a human. Where’s the Moon-Nether Beast?"

"The Moon-Nether Beast? Its soul escaped, but its body seems destroyed." Yang Han was curious to see the true face behind the altar, so he asked.

"Impossible! How could you defeat the Moon-Nether Beast?" the other party said, unbelieving.

"Why not? And you actually plan to break the outer formation—quite the move. That grand formation was forged by many Gods," Yang Han said, curious.

"That’s none of your business. Just worry about yourself. Maybe I’ll remodel your body to replace the Moon-Nether Beast," the voice sneered.

"Is that so? Let’s see if you’ve really got the guts. Or are you afraid to show yourself?" Yang Han laughed.

"I don’t need to show myself to defeat you," the voice snorted. Suddenly, the altar released a surge of Nether-Origin Force, forming a giant humanoid construct. The giant stomped in front of Yang Han, shaking the surroundings—clearly a terrifying force.

"Impressive strength, but let’s see if it holds up," Yang Han said with a smirk.

"I’ve heard you’re immune to Nether-Origin Force. Today, I want to see just how fearless you really are," the voice snorted, and the giant started attacking Yang Han.

In terms of raw strength, Yang Han knew he wasn’t a match for the giant, so he relied on agility. But while he was fast, his attacks barely affected it.

Yang Han tried using wind—since the giant was made of Nether-Origin Force, maybe dispersing it could break its cohesion.

But after several tries, the wind wasn’t strong enough. Faced with this, Yang Han considered transforming, but the side effects would take a while to recover from.

If he could avoid it, Yang Han didn’t want to transform. So before doing so, he drew the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword, gripped it tightly, and shouted, "Watch how my sword breaks your construct!"

With that, a huge surge of power gathered on the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword, which he swung at the giant. The giant barely managed to block, but the controlling soul inside was instantly devoured by the sword. The giant collapsed, its Nether-Origin Force dissipating.

"So that’s how it works," Yang Han said with a smile, realizing the truth.

The altar’s occupant cursed, "Damn you! You actually used the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword to drain the soul!"

"I thought the giant was flawless, but it turns out there’s a soul inside, controlled by you. Clever trick," Yang Han sneered.

"Damn you—" The other party was clearly stunned by Yang Han’s sudden attack. They tried to form another giant, but the soul was quickly devoured and posed no threat. Yang Han walked right up to the altar, smiling.

"Let’s see how tough your altar barrier really is." Yang Han gripped the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword, activated the Heaven-Cold Seed, and poured power into his hand, making the sword hum with force.

Seeing Yang Han about to attack the altar, the voice inside panicked, "No way—I won’t let you succeed!"

In an instant, the altar shifted and vanished. Yang Han’s attack changed direction, blasting another part of the Nether Sky Abyss, causing a collapse and making the whole Abyss tremble. His strike had damaged its structural integrity.

"You—damn you! You actually dare damage the Nether Sky Abyss!" The other party hadn’t expected Yang Han to destroy part of it.

"You wouldn’t show yourself, so this is just the beginning. I wonder what the Nether Sky Abyss will look like when it’s completely destroyed," Yang Han sneered, planning to keep attacking and force the strange voice’s owner out.
