Darkness Descends

2/27/2026

"Damn you! Just you wait!" The owner of that voice finished speaking and disappeared. Naturally, Evan Yang immediately began destroying the place.

The hidden altar began moving to a different location within the Nether Sky Abyss, then unleashed infinite Nether-Origin Force. This force was soon linked to the stone platforms in the upper tunnels.

Soon, the connected stone platforms began to operate. Evan Yang heard a humming sound, paused his sword, and looked around, noticing the hum was growing louder and louder.

When all the stone platforms around finished operating, that voice appeared again: "Human, I'll send you off as a sacrifice to mark this world's descent into darkness. Hahaha."

Then, the Nether Sky Abyss acted like a cannon mouth. Suddenly, with a thunderous boom underground, an incomparably powerful force erupted upward, instantly blasting Evan Yang away.

"I... I'm not going to die, right?" Evan Yang muttered before losing consciousness.

The force was so overwhelming that Evan Yang couldn't even resist. Hit by such immense power, he blacked out completely.

That surge of power shot toward the sky, making the surrounding formation tremble in advance. When the formation shattered, the owner of the voice sneered, "Serves you right. Now even your soul is gone! Let's see how you fight me now."

The Nether Sky Abyss is essentially a mouth, the outlet for the force. Originally, the plan was to act at night, but now the activation was pushed forward because Evan Yang was here—a chance to deal with this trouble, so it was triggered early.

Unaware, Evan Yang was instantly swept away by the force. After the formation shattered, the spirit beasts noticed it had broken early and immediately surged out for slaughter.

In an instant, without the protection of the formation, the humans outside were as fragile as stalks of grain—one by one, they were devoured by the spirit beast tide.

Elsewhere, a fat cultivator leader was sleeping soundly when he suddenly rolled off his bed in anger. "Damn it, who—who dares disturb my sleep?"

"Boss, boss, something bad's happened—look outside!" someone rushed in to report.

The fat leader kicked the man aside. "What nonsense—making it sound like the world has turned dark!"

He strode outside, but when he saw the situation before him, he froze—pitch-black darkness everywhere, and spirit beasts crowding all around.

"What the hell is going on?" The fat leader was stunned, as if something had caught in his throat.

"No idea. The formation suddenly shattered, then a black power drifted out, and the spirit beast tide appeared. Now everyone outside is dead." the man explained.

"Then what are you waiting for? Run!" The fat leader turned pale with fright and hurriedly fled. The chaos here naturally drew the attention of the whole world. Many Gods rushed to the scene, and when they saw what was happening, they began frantically leading people to encircle and exterminate the spirit beasts. They knew that if the beasts weren't wiped out, the world would fall into darkness, because the Nether-Origin Force released from the Nether Sky Abyss had already spread out, acting like a stimulant that drove the spirit beasts utterly mad.

The war lasted many days. No one knows how many died; several dynasties near the Abyss were wiped out. The survivors were either dead or had lost their minds, rampaging wildly—exactly the result of Nether-Origin Force spreading.

All of this was exactly what the owner of the voice wanted. At that moment, he laughed wildly inside the altar, "Children, devour to your heart's content—turn this world dark and make it part of our Nether Sky Realm!"

The outside world had gradually grown dim. The Nether-Origin Force was getting denser, and many low-level cultivators couldn't endure it—they went mad.

As for Evan Yang, he was still unconscious. When he finally woke, more than half a month had passed. At that moment, Evan lay in a canyon, still gripping the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword.

A torrential rain brought Evan Yang back to his senses. He struggled to open his eyes, feeling the rain pelting his body. Several of his wounds had scabbed over, and traces of his blood from the fall still marked the ground around him.

Most notably, Evan Yang was covered in weeds, almost as if he'd been buried.

"Pff." Evan Yang spat out some mud from the corner of his mouth, then struggled to climb to his feet. After half a month of not moving, his limbs were numb.

"What happened to me?" Evan Yang muttered after steadying himself. Then his memories returned—until he saw faint traces of Nether-Origin Force drifting in the sky.

He frowned. "Could the Nether-Origin Force really have spread?" Curious, Evan Yang released his Divine Sense—and was stunned by what he found. The world was already unrecognizable.

He quickly gathered his strength and took off into the sky. After circling a few times to get his bearings, he headed for the Nether Sky Abyss. With a flash, he reached the outer edge—only to find the formation gone and the sky above pitch-black.

Those were all traces of Nether-Origin Force. Evan Yang muttered, "Damn, so that power must've been what destroyed the formation."

Unwilling to accept it, Evan Yang arrived at the Nether Sky Abyss and saw it was a hollow. Inside the hollow was an altar—just like the one he'd seen before. Evan checked the altar and found the barrier was gone, but the altar was still operating in sync with the surrounding stone platforms.

"Watch me destroy these stone platforms!" Evan Yang drew the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword and swept across each stone platform one by one.

Soon, all the stone platforms were destroyed. The Nether-Origin Force stopped flowing out, and Evan Yang erased the altar, leaving behind a tunnel—but he couldn't enter it.

Instantly, the surrounding Nether-Origin Force ceased its operation. In other words, no more Nether-Origin Force was appearing, and gradually, this world's Nether-Origin Force would become more and more sparse.

Evan Yang put away the Soul-Devouring Divine Sword and left. With the Nether-Origin Force weakening, the spirit beasts—who relied on it for strength—suddenly found themselves much weaker.

Very quickly, humanity began to fight back. Just when it seemed the world was lost to darkness, people started a massive purge.

The owner of the altar's voice, lurking in the shadows, was shocked when he received the news. He rushed to the Nether Sky Abyss, found it destroyed, and roared in fury, "Damn it! Who did this?"

In his eyes, the Nether Sky Abyss was so saturated with Nether-Origin Force that no one else could approach. The only one who could was Evan Yang, but he should have been devoured by that power.

But he never imagined that Evan Yang was the one who destroyed it.

Now, if he didn't restore things quickly, his plan for this world would collapse. He went to the tunnel entrance and contacted the other side. Soon, a group of powerful cultivators arrived and started building several temporary stone platforms. However, these platforms weren't as well-prepared, so the Nether-Origin Force they produced was much weaker.

"This is still a bit weak, but it'll do. It can hold off their first wave—then we'll go all out. I'll leave this place in your care," the owner of the voice said.

He soon drifted away. Meanwhile, Evan Yang was in a nearby dynasty, watching a group of mutated spirit beasts fight against the last surviving humans.

"Sigh." Seeing this, Evan Yang could only shake his head. He used his power, and in a few quick moves, wiped out the strongest spirit beasts.

When the survivors saw such a powerful cultivator appear, they worshipped him. Evan Yang soon vanished, leaving the rest to handle things themselves.

And so, Evan Yang traveled across several dynasties. His goal was simple: wipe out the strongest beasts and leave the rest for the survivors.

Evan Yang drifted from place to place for over half a month, defeating countless powerful mutated spirit beasts. But the surrounding Nether-Origin Force was the greatest threat, sending many humans into madness.

"Strange. Didn't I already destroy it? By rights, there shouldn't be any left," Evan Yang muttered suspiciously.

On the other side, the owner of the voice was furious—and curious. Who was it that defeated so many of his powerful spirit beasts?

Soon, news of Evan Yang wiping out so many powerful spirit beasts spread across all the dynasties—and reached the owner of the voice.

When the owner of the voice heard the news, he exploded in anger. "Impossible! He's supposed to be dead!"

The owner of the voice cursed furiously, gathering many powerful spirit beasts for one purpose: to hunt down Evan Yang.

Far away at the Wood Estate, they were relatively remote, so the impact was minimal. Only a few monsters occasionally came by and were eliminated. But their information network was sharp, and when they learned Evan Yang was near the Nether Sky Abyss, the Wood Estate's God snorted coldly, "I've finally found him."

"How many people should we bring?" the patriarch asked.

"No need for extra people. Just watch over the Wood Estate. Lately, all sorts of strange creatures have appeared—you need to guard this place. As for Evan Yang, leave him to me. He doesn't know me, so I can approach him more easily!" The Wood Estate's God sneered.

The Wood Estate's God soon vanished. Evan Yang had never met him, so even if they crossed paths, Evan wouldn't recognize him.

At that moment, Evan Yang was still busy wiping out powerful spirit beasts, until some humans invited him to a place—a gathering of the local human organization.

There, he saw many experts defending the area. The spirit beasts couldn't approach; if they tried, they'd be killed. This was the strongest group nearby.

"Welcome," an elder greeted Evan Yang respectfully. Even though Evan was only at the Immortal Sovereign level, everyone had seen what he could do—no one dared underestimate him.

"No need for formalities. I came mainly to tell you how to deal with those spirit beasts," Evan Yang said.

"That's wonderful! We've been racking our brains for a way to get close to the Nether Sky Abyss," the elder exclaimed.

Many experts gathered around the elder, all ready to listen to Evan Yang.

Seeing so many Gods gathered on this continent surprised Evan Yang, but he quickly calmed down and said, "Here's the truth: the Nether Sky Abyss is actually the starting point for the Nether Sky Realm's invasion and devouring of this world."
