Evan Chu could only look at Alex, the Violet Thunder Fox, with a helpless expression and say, "Alex, Selena really is from the Demon Clan. Her father was slain by the Lord of Frostbane, and now you’re saying I’m the reincarnation of the Lord of Frostbane—have you even thought about the consequences?"
"Big Bro, I really didn’t know! You said earlier she wasn’t Demon Clan, and since you two seemed so close, I just assumed she’d be your wife sooner or later. I really didn’t mean it!" Alex protested, face full of grievance and guilt.
"I’m not blaming you, Alex. Just stay here in this room and don’t go anywhere. I’m going to find Selena and talk to her. If she doesn’t come with us, there’s no way we can go to the Sea Regions." Evan Chu said, then rushed out the door.
He looked all around but couldn’t see any sign of Selena. He couldn’t help but wonder, "Did she leave in a huff? Or is she hiding on purpose, not wanting to see me?"
Finding Selena wasn’t easy, since she could fly. Just as Evan Chu was feeling stuck, Luna’s voice appeared: "She’s left the city. If I’m not wrong, she’s probably waiting for you somewhere open."
"Why would she wait for me? She knows I’ll go looking for her?" Evan Chu said in surprise.
"Of course. Honestly, you’ve already fallen for her, you just won’t admit it. I know exactly what’s on your mind. Selena’s a good girl, you should treat her well. Even though she’ll be hurt by this, she won’t kill you—because she loves you deeply too!" Luna said.
With a thought, Evan Chu summoned Goldwing, who appeared before him. Seeing Evan’s troubled face, Goldwing asked, "Boss, is there something you need to take care of?"
"Take me out of the city. Selena and I had a fight—I need to find her as soon as possible," Evan Chu said.
Goldwing instantly revealed his true form, and Evan Chu climbed onto his back and left through the city gates. In his heart, Evan guessed Selena was probably at the place they’d once visited together.
Following Evan Chu’s directions, Goldwing soon spotted Selena standing alone, quietly, amid crushed weeds and wildflowers—a clear sign she’d just vented her anger.
Evan Chu slowly walked toward Selena, but when he was still more than ten steps away, she suddenly said, "Stop! If you take one more step, I’ll kill you!"
Evan Chu looked at Selena and saw her eyes were swollen and still wet with tears; it was obvious she’d been crying for a long time.
"Xuan’er, you’ve been crying? Please don’t be angry, okay? I really didn’t mean to hide my identity from you!" Evan Chu said helplessly.
Selena paused at his words, then said, "Evan Chu, do you think this is funny? For you, I argued with my clan elders, I set aside my dignity, I was even willing to die—and what did I get in return? I got you, my father’s killer, as my reward."
Now you’re willing to call me Xuan’er? Before, I begged you for that and it was harder than climbing to the heavens. Now, just because your secret was exposed and you’re afraid I won’t go to the Sea Regions with you, you want to sweet-talk me?
Am I an idiot? Lied to this badly, and I’m still hopelessly in love with you—the greatest enemy of my Demon Clan. You’d better leave now, or I really won’t be able to stop myself from killing you!
Evan Chu hadn’t expected Selena to say all this. From her tone, he could tell she was truly devastated, wounded to the core by him. Suddenly, a strange pain welled up in his heart—sour and hard to bear.
"Xuan’er, please don’t be like this, okay? When you’re hurting, my heart hurts too. Do you think I don’t know what you’ve done for me? The reason I kept refusing you was exactly because of this. I know how you feel about me, but do you know me? I’m suffering too." Evan Chu said.
"I don’t want to hear it, I don’t want to hear it! All I know is you lied to me and broke my heart—my heart hurts so much!" Selena sobbed, unable to speak clearly.
Unable to hold back any longer, Evan Chu rushed forward—but Selena, seeing him come, instantly struck out with her palm, hitting him square in the chest.
The blow was ferocious. Evan Chu was sent flying dozens of meters, spraying blood in the air before crashing to the ground.
Even with the Fourth Layer of his Starforge Body’s defense, Evan Chu still spat blood from the impact. It was clear just how terrifying Divine Martial Realm power really was.
Evan Chu tried to struggle up, but Luna suddenly said, "Evan Chu, don’t get up. If you do, that palm strike will be wasted. Since Selena truly loves you, she’ll definitely feel pain for you. She’s probably already regretting it. You have to pretend to be unconscious."
Evan Chu knew he had to play the bitter-meat trick for sympathy, so he closed his eyes and lay motionless.
Goldwing, seeing Evan Chu badly injured and collapsed, rushed over and cried out, "Boss, you can’t die! What will we do if you’re gone? You promised me we’d conquer the world together!"
Evan Chu and Goldwing were bound by a Soul Contract—if Evan Chu died, Goldwing would die too. As Goldwing finished speaking, Evan Chu secretly told him, "Old Goldwing, I’m fine, I’m just pretending. Don’t worry about me, just leave quickly—I’m afraid Selena might attack you."
Goldwing instantly understood and shouted, "Boss, I’ll go find you some healing medicine—wait for me!" With that, he reverted to his true form and flew off at high speed.
At that moment, Selena saw Evan Chu lying motionless on the ground. She knew exactly how strong her palm strike was—she’d used at least eighty percent of her power. Even a ninth-layer Heaven Martial expert would be severely injured by that, but Evan Chu was only at the Earth Martial Realm.
Suddenly realizing something, she cried out, "Evan Chu, you can’t die! You can’t leave me!" She rushed over, lifted him up, and cradled him against her shoulder.
Selena’s tears streamed down her cheeks and onto Evan Chu’s face. His back pressed against something soft and warm—bittersweet and strangely comforting.
"Xuan’er, don’t cry. I’m sorry—I really didn’t want to hurt you. If you’re willing, I’ll go with you to the Demon Clan and let your elders judge me as they see fit. I’ll accept whatever punishment they give." Evan Chu whispered.
Selena was stunned for a moment, then her tears fell even harder. She hugged Evan Chu tightly and said, "Idiot—why would I ever let them hurt you? If anyone tries, I’ll fight them with everything I have!"
Evan Chu smiled faintly, feeling a warmth in his heart he hadn’t felt in years. He knew Selena would never truly harm him.
The two embraced quietly as the sun set, their hearts finally at peace.
Evan sat up, turned, and pulled Selena into his embrace. "I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I didn’t know I’d hurt you so much!" he said.
Selena tried to break free, but even with her strength, she seemed powerless now. Evan gently released her, turned them face to face, softly wrapped his hand around her neck and shoulder, and, unable to hold back, kissed her cherry lips…
