Han Shaowei's face was full of indignation as he spoke.
"That girl—she's just a bit prettier, has a better figure. What else does she have? Am I right or not?"
He rambled on in front of Evan Lin: "You have no idea. Lately, Hank Chu's been obsessed with making money, totally stressed out. Even I feel anxious just watching him."
"Is it worth it? That Julie Chu—even at North Hill Aviation University, she's one of the top beauties. With so many admirers, how could someone from an ordinary family like us ever win her over?"
At this point, Han Shaowei seemed a bit helpless, unable to put his feelings into words.
His family's situation was at best average—a typical salaried household. Every weekend, when he saw all the luxury cars parked outside North Hill Aviation University, he couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.
But there's nothing you can do. Some cars, some money, some houses—you either have them from birth or you don't. They're not things regular people can ever get their hands on.
So, when it came to those pretty girls in the flight-attendant major at North Hill Aviation, Han Shaowei could only meet them in his dreams, maybe brag about them with friends sometimes. But as for actually pursuing one—even if you gave him ten thousand guts, he'd never dare.
But seeing his good friend Hank Chu suddenly start chasing after a girl from the flight-attendant major—a future stewardess—Han Shaowei felt strangely complicated about it.
First, he didn't want to see Hank get hurt. In his mind, he and Hank belonged to the same world—people who should just play games, shoot hoops, and, if lucky, find a not-so-beautiful girlfriend for a memorable, simple romance.
As for the kind of girlfriend, she definitely wouldn't be too perfect or beautiful—after all, you can't keep a stunning wife.
On the other hand, Han Shaowei had found Julie Chu's photos on North Hill Aviation University's forum. At first glance, she looked gorgeous, which made him secretly envy Hank Chu.
Though, in his opinion, Hank and that girl would have a hard time making it to the end.
"If Hank really likes her, then she's worth it—and there's no woman Hank isn't worthy of."
Evan Lin spoke calmly. When Han Shaowei heard this, he was stunned for a moment.
He turned his head, finally taking the chance to seriously size up Evan Lin from close range.
Back at the basketball court, Han Shaowei hadn't had the time or opportunity to really look at the guy who helped him out.
Now, for once, things were quiet.
Han Shaowei first checked out Evan Lin's outfit—just a simple shirt and jeans, nothing branded, but overall, he looked super clean, steady, and mature in a way that didn't fit their age group.
Besides that, there was an indescribable sense of coldness—so strong it felt like this teenager wasn't just another ordinary student like them.
The feeling was strong, but then Han Shaowei couldn't help shaking his head.
Hank Chu was just a regular guy like him—there's no way he'd know any truly powerful friends. Sure, this kid played basketball well and did some surprising things, like making Ben Sun kneel without flinching in front of those Mechatronics guys.
But no matter how you looked at him, this guy didn't seem special at all—not like some rich second-generation or anything.
"Bro, I really can't respond to that."
Han Shaowei chuckled. "I'm not saying Hank isn't worthy of Julie Chu—just that they're not from the same world."
"Think about it—flight attendants. Once Julie Chu graduates, she'll be a stewardess. Most people who can afford to fly are rich, especially those in first class. They're all loaded. When that time comes, how could a pretty girl like Julie ever settle for an ordinary rice-and-soy-sauce life with guys like me or Hank?"
"Reality is reality—this isn't some fairy tale or novel."
Han Shaowei shook his head. He realized Hank Chu was a bit stubborn, and Hank's friend seemed even more hardheaded—there was just no way to talk them out of it.
From his perspective, this kid probably didn't have much family background either, just another guy always wanting a pretty girlfriend—same as Hank Chu. A bit of a daydreamer, hoping for some so-called fairy-tale romance.
But on this point, Han Shaowei didn't bother to mock them.
After all, he was Hank Chu's friend. This basketball duel was supposed to be Hank's, but Hank had something come up, so he stepped in without hesitation.
Because of that, he almost lost all his face.
"Reality isn't a fairy tale, but it's way simpler than one."
Evan Lin smiled, leaving that line behind without arguing further with Han Shaowei.
"Where's Hank Chu now?"
Evan Lin and Han Shaowei had already reached the school gate. "I tried calling him, but couldn't get through. No idea what he's up to."
"And what about the debt collectors? How much does he owe now, do you know?"
Evan Lin planned to solve everything one by one. Since he was here, he was going to help Hank Chu sort out all these problems.
"He borrowed two thousand from me. I don't know about the rest, but it's definitely tens of thousands. Those loan company guys even came to our dorm last time, but we kicked them out."
Han Shaowei stood there and continued, "This morning, he said his part-time job had something urgent, so he had to go over. I'm guessing he's probably there now."
"But he could also be inside North Hill Aviation University, since today's a special day. I'm not sure, though."
Evan Lin glanced at the North Hill Aviation University gate across the street.
Even though it wasn't the weekend, there were still a few Audis and BMWs parked at the school entrance, with drinks lined up on their roofs.
The drivers inside each car looked like hunters waiting for prey.
"Special day? What do you mean?"
"It's Julie Chu's birthday today. Hank Chu even prepared a gift for her and left early this morning."
Han Shaowei glanced toward North Hill Aviation University too. "But honestly, I don't think Hank actually went there."
"Most likely, he's at his part-time job."
Han Shaowei added, worried Evan Lin wouldn't understand: "To get into North Hill Aviation University, you need a campus card. If you dress too plainly, nobody will swipe you in, so even if you want to sneak in, it's basically impossible."
