Golden Age

Han Shaowei still felt a lingering fear as he spoke.

"Earlier, Chu Han wanted me to go inside with him, but we were stopped right at the school gate."

"You have no idea how strict the security guards are at that school."

Thinking about it still made Han Shaowei feel uncomfortable.

Back then, because of this, he and Chu Han stood at the gate of North Hill Aviation University, being stared at like monkeys for ages.

Especially when he shamelessly tried to borrow a student card to swipe them in, everyone coldly refused.

According to them, people like Chu Han and Han Shaowei weren’t even worthy of entering the school.

But right then, a Lamborghini drove straight into the campus under their noses without any checks.

The security guards blocking them showed zero resistance to that car, didn’t check for any student ID, and ran over with grinning faces to open the school gate for it.

That scene left a deep impression on Han Shaowei, even now.

At his age, a guy can handle getting beaten up—thick-skinned, just hurts a bit—but he can’t stand being stared at with mocking eyes.

A single luxury car totally shattered Han Shaowei’s deep-down pride, leaving him feeling helpless and inferior—emotions he struggled to face.

"The security guards over there are pretty snobbish too. Their monthly salary’s only four or five thousand yuan, but they act like they’re rich. Every time we walk by, they glare at us, like they’re terrified guys like us might sneak into their school. Typical dogs who look down on the poor!"

Han Shaowei kept ranting, but suddenly realized Evan Lin was silent. He turned to look at him, worried this guy wouldn’t listen and would drag him along to try breaking into North Hill Aviation University again.

If that happened, those snobby guards would just block them at the gate and embarrass them all over again.

"Let’s go to his workplace."

Evan Lin glanced at the campus. In just a short moment, he’d already sent a female ghost to scout inside North Hill Aviation University, but found no sign of Chu Han.

They walked to the roadside, flagged a taxi, and got in.

"That’s right. His workplace isn’t too far from here."

Seeing Evan Lin wasn’t stubborn about barging into North Hill Aviation University, Han Shaowei finally relaxed.

Even the way he looked at Evan Lin changed a little.

Just now, Evan Lin’s attitude made him think this guy might be something special, but after a bit of persuasion, he saw Evan Lin quietly give up on North Hill Aviation University. Probably, it’s because his background isn’t strong enough—he knows that place isn’t somewhere you can just muscle your way into. So, he’s tagging along to check out Chu Han’s workplace instead.

Honestly, that made sense. It also made Han Shaowei feel Evan Lin wasn’t so different from him after all—just maybe better at putting on a front.

"Driver, to 1924 Bar Street."

Once in the taxi, Han Shaowei sat in the back while Evan Lin took the front passenger seat.

After giving directions, Han Shaowei pulled out his phone and called Chu Han, but nobody picked up. "Chu Han used to have a part-time job as a sorter at a courier company, but the pay was too low, so he switched to working as a waiter at a bar."

"He met that Zhu Yu girl at the bar, but she’s not a waitress—she sells drinks."

Han Shaowei explained simply to Evan Lin, who nodded in response.

The car soon arrived at Bar Street.

It wasn’t far from North Hill University of Science and Technology—just a fifteen-minute drive.

The two of them got out of the taxi at the street.

Han Shaowei led the way in front of Evan Lin: "One of our classmates booked a private room here for his birthday. I heard they spent over five thousand yuan just for the room—drinks not included."

"It’s not open yet—this place only gets busy at night."

Guys their age don’t have much money, so even wanting to check out a bar is intimidating.

"Chu Han works part-time at Golden Age Bar, which is further inside. This place is high-end—ordinary people can’t afford it. Only those rich second-gen kids hang out here, and the bar owners are ruthless: guys pay a five-hundred yuan entry fee, even if they don’t drink; girls get in free, no matter what."

Han Shaowei sounded pretty annoyed as he said this.

Guys their age don’t have much money, so even wanting to check out a bar is intimidating.

"Total rip-off!"

He cursed, but after ranting for a while without hearing Evan Lin respond, Han Shaowei gradually calmed down and stopped talking.

They hadn’t walked far.

"Here we are. This is the place."

Han Shaowei stopped, and Evan Lin turned to look at the Golden Age Bar by the street.

The bar’s entrance wasn’t fancy—just a few plain mirrors for doors—but the whole building looked pretty imposing from the outside.

"Let’s go in and take a look."

Evan Lin led the way, with Han Shaowei following behind.

"Sorry, the bar’s not open yet."

A staff member at the door saw the two of them and walked over with a smile.

"I’m looking for someone. Is Chu Han here?"

Evan Lin got straight to the point, no wasted words.

"Are you his friend?"

The staffer sized up Evan Lin, looking a bit strange.

"Yeah."

Seeing Evan Lin nod, the staff hesitated briefly, then took out his walkie-talkie and quietly said a few words into it.

He seemed to get a reply and nodded.

"He’s here. I’ll take you to him now."

The staffer led the way. As they entered, he glanced at Evan Lin and whispered, "Don’t say anything reckless later."

It was a word of caution.

Besides that, the staffer seemed to want to say more, but held back.

Following Evan Lin, Han Shaowei looked around the Golden Age Bar. He’d wanted to come before, but even with Chu Han working here, he couldn’t skip the entry fee.

Faced with the choice between paying five hundred yuan or just coming in for fun, Han Shaowei never could bring himself to spend the money.

Now that he was inside, he looked around with wide eyes, full of curiosity.

Now that he was inside, he looked around with wide eyes, full of curiosity.

Evan Lin’s face stayed calm as he followed the staffer through the door.

Chu Han.
