Hank Chu

"Hey, looks like your friends are here. Planning to bring you some money?"

The man leading the booth lit a cigarette and shook his leg, his gaze sweeping over Will Han and Evan Lin, filled with disdain and mockery.

"Manager Zhang, they're here."

The waiter walked up and quietly spoke to a man in a suit standing by the booth.

The man's expression soured. He glanced at Evan Lin and Will Han, then turned and put on a warm smile for the man leading the booth.

"Brother Cannon, these two are Hank Chu's friends. They're all here now. Could you handle your business somewhere else?"

"We still need to do business tonight."

Manager Zhang is the main floor manager here and handles security for the bar.

Normally, small issues could be solved with a word.

But today, things were different.

The main reason was that this man, known as Brother Cannon, had quite the reputation. Years ago, he was already lending money around here, and he had plenty of tough guys under him.

He rarely gets his hands dirty now, but his reputation alone is intimidating. A few years back, he started a loan company, and now his crew numbers over a hundred.

If Manager Zhang brought out the bar’s real boss, settling things would be easy. But he didn’t want to—after all, this was just about a waiter, no need to bother his big boss.

Besides, Brother Cannon was known to hold grudges over the smallest things. Manager Zhang didn’t want to risk offending him.

“Zhang, this guy’s your bar’s waiter, right?”

Brother Cannon glanced at Manager Zhang, barely sparing a look for Will Han or Evan Lin.

The two newcomers looked like students—probably just classmates or friends of the kneeling Hank Chu.

If Hank was already kneeling here, clearly beaten down, the other two were probably no threat either.

As long as they brought the money, everything would be fine.

Brother Cannon, that’s true—he is our waiter. But the money he borrowed from you has nothing to do with the bar. You handling this here puts me in a tough spot.

Manager Zhang forced a smile, standing there.

After speaking, he shot a look of disgust at the kneeling Hank Chu, then strode over and kicked him hard.

Hank was already dazed and unsteady, barely able to kneel upright.

Caught off guard, Hank was knocked over by Manager Zhang’s kick.

"What are you doing?!"

Will Han rushed to Hank’s side, helping him up and glaring furiously at Manager Zhang.

"What am I doing? This kid borrowed money and didn’t pay it back, made Brother Cannon come here and mess up our business! Why shouldn’t I kick him?"

Manager Zhang glared at Will Han.

He was respectful with Brother Cannon, but had no such concerns with Will Han.

His words were harsh, his eyes fierce. One glare, and all the rough-looking men around Brother Cannon turned their attention to Will Han.

Those stares made Will Han’s body tremble.

He didn’t dare make a sound.

Paying back debt is one thing, but kicking people isn’t right.

At that moment, everyone heard a calm, cold voice.

They looked up in the direction of the voice.

It was the boy who’d just arrived with Will Han, now walking toward them.

Will Han had hurried ahead, arriving first.

Now, the other boy came slowly, lagging a bit behind.

He had a delicate face and calm eyes. As he looked around, his gaze was hard to describe.

His eyes seemed emotionless, yet everyone he looked at felt a surge of unease.

"Who are you?!"

Manager Zhang snapped back, his face darkening. For a moment, he felt a strange sense of fear.

Was he really afraid of this young kid?

The kid probably hadn’t even graduated yet!

If word got out, how could he keep his job?

Listen, this kid owes money and caused trouble for me. I kicked him—so what? You got a problem with that?

Manager Zhang shouted angrily, eager to impress Brother Cannon.

He didn’t have the guts to challenge Brother Cannon’s men, but Evan Lin seemed harmless.

You’re Hank Chu’s friend, aren’t you?

Now you’re in my bar, and this is my turf! Not only will I kick him, I’ll kick you too—believe it?

Manager Zhang shouted, stepping forward.

He strode toward Evan Lin, his shoes crunching over broken glass.

Brother Cannon and his men watched with amusement, letting Manager Zhang have his moment.

Manager Zhang moved fast. When he was just two meters from Evan Lin, he suddenly lunged forward and kicked at him.
