Evan Yang suddenly found himself facing two Devourer Beasts. Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang both assumed he would be overwhelmed or even devoured by them.
But what happened next left them stunned. Evan was still fighting Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang, holding his own with both hands, while the two Devourer Beasts tried to interfere up front. Yet Evan remained completely unaffected, calmly battling in midair.
Seth Nan grumbled under his breath, "Why isn't he affected at all?"
Jenna Zhang was just as shocked. It was the first time they'd seen anyone completely ignore their Devourer Beasts.
Right now, Evan Yang unleashed his full strength. Facing four Soul-Forming Great Perfection experts at once was his absolute limit—if any more showed up, he wouldn't be able to hold out.
"Let me show you how your spirit beasts turn on you!" Evan sneered, splitting his divine sense and sending seven daggers flying from his body.
The daggers shot out at lightning speed, instantly stabbing both Devourer Beasts in the eyes. The beasts howled in agony.
How could this happen? Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang thought they'd pinned Evan down, but everything changed in a flash—the Devourer Beasts not only failed to harass Evan, they ended up blinded and writhing in pain. Not every spirit beast possessed divine sense; most acted on instinct or under someone's control. These two were suffering badly now.
With their mouths wide open, the beasts thrashed wildly. Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang suffered too—their footwork couldn't resist that suction, so they struggled to withstand the pull.
The suction would occasionally catch them, making things even tougher. Evan Yang just smiled calmly and said, "So, how’s that?"
"You bastard! How dare you hurt our spirit beasts!" Seth Nan snapped, quickly sending a command to his beast, urging it to endure and stay still.
Jenna Zhang hurriedly sent a command to her own beast, trying to calm it down.
Just as the beasts were about to settle, Evan Yang let out another cold laugh—two more agonized cries rang out as the Devourer Beasts’ ears were sliced off. It was as effortless as slaughtering livestock.
The two were so furious they wanted to tear Evan apart. To them, their spirit beasts were like family—Evan hurting them was as painful as bleeding themselves.
The beasts, unable to calm down and further provoked by Evan, were soon left bloodied and barely alive, collapsing on the ground, barely breathing.
Seth Nan roared in fury, "I’ll kill you!" Jenna Zhang was even more frantic, "You brat! How dare you hurt my Little Darling—you’re dead!"
Evan chuckled tiredly after another bout of fighting. "Funny. If you’ve got the guts, come at me. Now that your spirit beasts are down, what tricks do you have left?"
Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang were truly out of options. Their biggest advantage was fighting together with their spirit beasts against a single opponent, but now their beasts were injured and only the two of them remained. This was the first time they’d faced such a powerful adversary. Even when challenging a Spirit-Wandering beginner, they’d never fought so violently or left their beasts so battered.
Evan Yang felt no pity for the Devourer Beasts. If he hadn’t mastered movement arts, he’d have ended up just like before—overwhelmed by their suction and killed.
"Damn it, you brat—" Seth Nan raged, then looked at his beast with regret.
Jenna Zhang’s face paled as she realized Seth Nan’s intentions. “Are you really going to do this?”
Seth Nan sighed helplessly. “They’re already like this. Might as well let them go out with honor.”
“But they’re our spirit beasts. They’ve followed us for over a thousand years.” Jenna Zhang’s voice trembled with reluctance.
“They’re proud creatures. I know they wouldn’t want to be defeated like this. So it’s better to let them go.” Seth Nan spoke with resignation.
Evan Yang was curious what the two were whispering about, but just then, a powerful aura erupted from underground. Locking on with his divine sense, he realized it was a primordial spirit burning itself.
“That desperate?” Evan was shocked. He immediately broke off his fight with the two, dodging aside as the now-crazed Devourer Beast, burning its primordial spirit, charged straight at him.
With its primordial spirit ignited, the beast’s strength soared. Evan controlled several daggers, launching wave after wave of attacks at the spirit beast.
Finally, Evan destroyed the beast’s physical body. Its powerful primordial spirit burst free, flying toward Evan as if to self-destruct right beside him.
Evan had no intention of being caught in that blast—who knew how powerful it might be? He quickly dodged away, but just as he escaped the suction, a massive explosion erupted. The shockwave sent Evan flying.
It didn’t injure him seriously, but it was still rough. His spiritual power scrambled briefly, and he grumbled, “They’re really going all out.”
Seth Nan and Jenna Zhang were stunned to see Evan emerge without serious injuries. They exchanged glances—Jenna’s eyes filled with reluctant sorrow—as the second spirit beast followed suit, charging toward its own demise.
Evan wasn’t about to let that happen again. He immediately controlled his daggers to destroy the beast’s body. The moment the daggers struck, another explosion erupted.
A rush of blood surged up Evan’s throat, nearly making him cough it out. “Damn it, my life-bound treasures!” he muttered, frustrated. He hadn’t expected the beast to explode early. The daggers were unharmed, but because they were linked to Evan, he was still affected.
Seeing Evan’s aura weaken but not seriously injured, the two exchanged another glance. With a flash, they leapt onto their flying swords and called out, “Evan Yang, we’ll meet again. The lives of our two spirit beasts—you’ll pay for them!”
Evan didn’t rush after them. Who knew if they had any more tricks up their sleeves? Injured, he quickly found a place to rest.
Old Clam’s voice rang out, “Kid, you’re lucky. Both primordial spirits exploded and you still didn’t take major damage.”
“No major injuries, but I did get a few minor ones. My life-bound treasures got caught in the blast—it’s really frustrating.” Evan replied with a sigh.
“That’s already pretty good. If your daggers weren’t so tough, they’d have shattered—and you’d be in much worse shape.”
“Yeah, they’re strong for sure. Someday, when I gather all ten, I want to see their true form.” Evan’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.
Old Clam looked forward to it too. Those daggers were legendary Immortal artifacts, and each had its own sword spirit. If Evan could find all ten, maybe he’d uncover secrets about Immortals themselves.
Everyone cultivates hoping to become an Immortal someday—high above, with endless lifespan, able to command life and death with a wave of the hand.
But Evan Yang had other goals. He needed to find his family—and protect his friends and loved ones.
Evan recovered quickly and returned to Myriad City. He wanted to find out who was searching for him—someone whose gaze felt familiar, yet he couldn’t place.
Gabe Little-Imp greeted him with a grin. “You’re finally back! Where’d you run off to?”
“Anything urgent?” Evan smiled back.
“Of course! The info you got—I passed it along, and got a reward for it!” Gabe said excitedly.
“That’s good.” Evan smiled.
“If only we could find Evan Yang, we’d rake in rewards. Wherever he shows up, there’s money to be made. And those missing cultivators—if we could track down just one or two, the Beggar Gang would hit it big.” Gabe laughed.
Talking about tracking Evan Yang, Evan asked, “Did that woman show up yet?”
“She should arrive tonight,” Gabe replied.
“Then give me the location. Maybe I’ll find something about Evan Yang today, and I can report to her directly.” Evan said.
“You really want to meet her?” Gabe eyed Evan suspiciously.
“What? Is there a problem?” Evan asked, puzzled.
“Not exactly a problem, but every time she sees one of our people, she gives them a lecture.” Gabe complained, looking frustrated.
“A lecture? Why bother? And you still want to do business with her?” Evan asked, skeptical.
“She says only one person is fit to be a beggar. The rest of us are too ugly.” Gabe grumbled. Beggars didn’t have much status—mostly running errands or doing odd jobs.
“That’s hilarious.” Evan chuckled. He’d never heard anything so absurd.
“Right? That woman’s got issues. Every time she sees us dressed as beggars, she scolds us. So whenever we meet her, we have to dress like normal people.” Gabe sighed.
“Change outfits?” Evan hadn’t expected her words to make the beggars switch clothes.
“Exactly. If you want to meet her, it’s best to dress normally. Otherwise, if she scolds you, we won’t be able to help.” Gabe warned Evan as he prepared to go.
Evan just laughed. “No need. I like it this way.”
“No way! If you go like this, you’ll get scolded. Last time, someone about your age and a bit of a pretty face got lectured so hard he couldn’t walk the next day.” Gabe protested, worried Evan might get hurt.
Evan wasn’t that timid. He was more curious about the woman’s behavior—if she hated beggars, why say only one person was fit for the role?
Despite Gabe’s protests, Evan didn’t care and insisted on keeping his beggar look.
Seeing Evan wouldn’t listen, Gabe reluctantly changed clothes and called a few more people along.
When Evan asked why so many people were coming, Gabe looked worried. “Just in case we need to carry you back.”
“Uh…” Evan was speechless. He hadn’t expected the woman to leave such a mark on them.
Gabe walked with Evan, followed by four others who’d swapped their beggar outfits for clean, ordinary clothes.
Gabe himself had changed into decent clothing, leading Evan toward their destination.
According to Gabe, their destination was a grand restaurant in Myriad City—one of the top spots, bustling and luxurious, but only for the wealthy. Gabe and his crew were just there to meet the woman and update her on the latest news.
Usually, there wasn’t much news—just a routine check-in. But everyone had to dress properly, or else Gabe’s warnings would come true.
