Cold-Blooded

Feng Manor, side courtyard.

Inside two small wooden huts, only Serena Feng and William Wang Jinling were present. Outside, imperial troops guarded the area, keeping everyone at least ten meters away.

Opposite the huts, rows of tables had been set up—these were for the people even General Warren Yu couldn’t drive away.

Edward Wang Su and Vincent Su insisted on staying with them. Meanwhile, the Master of the Mystic Healer Valley, upon hearing that Serena Feng planned to treat William Wang Jinling’s eyes, immediately declared it impossible and rushed to Feng Manor, demanding to enter the hut and observe the entire process.

He wasn’t the first to speak up, but his status as Master of the Mystic Healer Valley made everyone treat him with respect, and they quickly called Serena Feng out to meet him.

Unlike other doctors who acted arrogant and tried to 'order' Serena Feng to perform under their watch, the valley master was generous and polite.

Faced with such people, Serena Feng couldn’t even be bothered to glance at them and simply invoked the Empress and Ninth Royal Uncle’s authority.

You want to watch my entire treatment process?

Fine. Do you have an order from Ninth Royal Uncle? No? How about an edict from Her Majesty the Empress? Still no? If you have nothing, what right do you have to command me?

Serena Feng’s proud attitude instantly offended the physicians, who accused her of lacking respect for her elders and claimed that, no matter her skill, she had no medical ethics.

Serena Feng just smiled indifferently.

These people weren’t here to observe her treatment—they were here to kick her while she was down.

She didn’t mind sharing her medical knowledge, but she did mind those with ulterior motives.

The Master of the Mystic Healer Valley’s status was far above those so-called famous doctors. When he met Serena Feng, he greeted her as an equal and politely asked how she planned to treat William Wang Jinling, whether he could observe, and even offered to assist her.

Serena Feng knew the valley master was genuinely obsessed with medicine, but she still politely refused, saying there would be a chance to discuss it another time—she was very interested in his 'moving flowers and grafting trees' transplant techniques.

The moment she mentioned that, the valley master got excited and started talking shop with her, completely ignoring the setting.

Serena Feng couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head…

Then, a retired imperial physician and the court doctor who had previously examined William Wang Jinling’s eyes also rushed in after hearing the news.

These men all held official positions, and unlike the valley master, they weren’t reasonable at all. Some even threatened Serena Feng, claiming they could obtain an imperial edict if necessary.

Serena Feng initially wanted to slam the door in their faces, but remembering Ninth Royal Uncle’s warning, she politely refused, explaining that William Wang Jinling’s eyes were too important to risk disturbance and asking everyone to leave and return in three days to see the results.

All those present were so-called divine doctors, obsessed with status. Of course, they refused to leave. Serena Feng went even further—she locked the door, tossed General Warren Yu a meaningful look, and ignored everything outside.

Some onlookers tried to peek through the glass windows, hoping to catch a glimpse inside, but Serena Feng was prepared—she yanked the curtains shut, leaving them unable to see anything.

“Serena Feng is really going too far. Is she afraid we’ll steal her techniques?” grumbled a white-bearded physician, his beard trembling with anger.

“She’s just a yellow-haired girl—how much skill can she possibly have? I’m just waiting for her to fall flat on her face.”

...

They grumbled and complained, but none of them left.

They didn’t trust Serena Feng, but with all this fuss, she must have some skill—after all, the Wang Clan was still sitting here.

Some tried to pry information from Edward Wang Su, but Serena Feng hadn’t told the Wang family anything. Edward Wang Su could only answer with a heavy, worried expression.

After all, the Wang Clan’s fate would be decided in these three days. The pressure was almost unbearable.

The most anxious of all was Caleb Wang Jinhan.

His elder brother was about to undergo a corneal transplant, but Serena Feng was constantly under scrutiny—how would she get the corneas?

Caleb Wang’s lips were so chapped with worry that blisters had formed.

The same thing worried William Wang Jinling, but he didn’t know how to ask.

At Serena Feng’s request, he bathed and changed, then lay flat on the small bed, feeling rather awkward.

It was, after all, a man and a woman alone, and the posture was quite ambiguous.

Then Serena Feng busied herself elsewhere, leaving him aside.

Trying to ease the awkwardness, William Wang Jinling asked, "Serena, didn’t you say you needed corneas? Didn’t you need to take them from the dead? What will you do now?"

"I’m already prepared." Serena Feng put on her surgical gown, tucked her hair under the cap—standard pre-op attire.

Truthfully, after so many operations, a corneal transplant was a minor procedure for Serena Feng; she wouldn’t have worried at all. If this were the modern day, she’d dare to perform it even on the battlefield. But now?

She was nervous.
