Although a corneal transplant is considered a minor surgery, it still took a full six hours from preparation to completion.
Those six hours were sheer agony for Serena Feng; she kept worrying that General Warren Yu might not hold out, and someone would barge in.
Luckily, everything went smoothly.
When Serena Feng successfully grafted the cornea into William Wang Jinling's eyes, she finally let out a breath—once it was done, no one could ruin it.
She took out solution and gauze, and carefully bandaged William's eyes.
The anesthesia hadn’t worn off yet. Serena checked everything—no issues with the surgery—then hung an IV drip for William to prevent inflammation.
"All right, it’s completely finished."
Serena was so exhausted she collapsed directly onto a chair.
She’d been tense all day, and only now, when she finally relaxed, did she realize just how tired she was.
She was worn out, body and mind.
Serena rested in the chair for half an hour, then forced herself to get up and change William’s IV drip. She tidied the operating room, returned all reusable tools to her Smart Med-Pack, and stacked the medical waste in a corner to be burned later.
Judging by the time, night had probably fallen. Serena walked to the window and pulled back a corner of the curtain.
Sure enough... it was dark outside. And the people out there?
Except for the Wang clan, only General Warren Yu was still on guard.
Which made sense—no one was going to wait here for three days. At most, they’d come back to see the results.
Since that was the case, she didn’t need to hole up in the operating room anymore; the smell of medicine was really unpleasant.
Once William’s IV finished, Serena lowered the wheels on the operating bed, carefully pushed him into the outer room, and opened the door to head out.
"Serena Feng? You’re out? How did it go?" General Warren Yu, Vincent Su, and Caleb Wang all rushed forward to ask.
"The surgery was a complete success. There’s no need to worry." Out of habit, Serena answered just as she always did when leaving the operating room.
"Surgery?" The three of them looked a little confused, then noticed Serena’s strange outfit.
"Serena, why are you dressed so weirdly, and wearing a blue cap?" Caleb Wang pointed at Serena's surgical gown, and the medicine stains on it made him uneasy.
"Uh..." Serena's face darkened.
She'd cleaned everything up but forgot to change out of her surgical clothes. She quickly tore off the mask, letting her long hair fall free. "It’s just more convenient for work."
Serena shook out the sleeves of her gown.
The sleeves of the surgical gown were tight, making things easier. Ancient clothing had huge sleeves—completely impractical for holding a scalpel.
"Oh..." Caleb responded, still a bit dazed.
Just then, Edward Wang Su’s restrained cough sounded from nearby.
As the elder, he couldn’t rush forward like Caleb, but his anxiety was no less than theirs.
Serena quickly stripped off the surgical gown and shoved it into General Warren Yu’s hands, then turned to direct Vincent Su and Caleb Wang.
"You two, push William out and take him to the side chamber. Be careful, don’t jostle him. I’ll go report William’s condition to Master Wang."
With that, she brushed past the others and walked out.
Standing before Edward Wang Su, Serena didn’t bow. As a doctor, she always kept a professional, slightly cold face when speaking to patients’ families—this helped them trust her calm and expertise.
"Master Wang, please rest assured—William’s condition is excellent. I guarantee his eyesight will begin to recover in three days."
Her confident, professional manner made Wang Su believe her almost involuntarily. Tears glimmered in his eyes: "Is it true? William’s eyes—he’ll really be able to see?"
Though he’d always been selfish, putting family interests first, he truly loved William. Otherwise he wouldn’t have searched for famous doctors all these years to treat his son’s eye disease.
But there had just been too much disappointment over the years.
Serena had given them hope, but also brought great trouble to the Wang clan.
Now... Wang Su didn’t know what to say for a moment.
He believed Serena wasn’t lying—she had no reason to lie.
Serena gave a firm, confident nod.
"Thank you, Miss Serena, truly thank you." Overwhelmed with joy, even Wang Su lost his composure.
Serena was used to reactions like this and just waved it off. "No need to thank me—it’s my job. All right, Master Wang, I won’t keep you. I’ll personally oversee William’s follow-up treatment, but right now I need to make some arrangements. Excuse me."
"Miss Serena, please—if you need anything, just say the word." Wang Su nodded repeatedly.
"Don’t worry, I won’t hesitate to ask." Serena nodded and left with Vincent Su, escorting William back to his room.
On the way, Serena gave Caleb Wang instructions on how to care for William after the surgery, then withdrew.
Just as she was about to finally rest, General Warren Yu showed up again.
"Serena, are William’s eyes really all right?" He asked, though he already half-believed it.
"Yes. You can trust me—I wouldn’t lie about this." Serena nodded firmly.
"That’s a relief. At least I didn’t offend anyone this afternoon." Warren Yu let out a breath.
"Something happened this afternoon?" Serena frowned—she hadn’t noticed any commotion.
Well, once she was in the operating room, her mind held nothing but the surgery.
"You didn’t know? There was a huge commotion this afternoon—I even injured someone. It was so loud, and you didn’t hear a thing?" Warren Yu shook his head. "I could even hear the clinking of your instruments inside."
Serena gave an awkward laugh. "I was too focused, didn’t notice a thing."
Warren Yu waved it off, unconcerned. "It’s actually a good thing you didn’t hear. I was worried it might distract you. By the way, Serena, where did you learn your medical skills? You know, every famous doctor said William could never recover his sight."
Serena had way too many secrets.
"You want to know?" Serena raised an eyebrow.
Warren Yu started to nod, but seeing the warning in Serena’s eyes, he changed his mind. "Uh... only if you’re comfortable sharing."
"Warren... knowing too much isn’t good for you." Serena gave a cold laugh, then half-joked, half-serious: "Careful, or I might have to silence you!"
Warren Yu suddenly shivered. He realized Serena wasn’t really joking, understood he shouldn’t pry, and quickly changed the subject: "Serena, those eight corpses are still at your place. Maybe you should deal with them—it’s not good to keep them around."
Warren really couldn’t understand how Serena wasn’t afraid of the dead, just leaving eight bodies at her house.
"Let’s go take a look." Only now did Serena remember about the bodies.
Warren Yu had been careful, storing all eight corpses in the woodshed.
After all, too many people had visited Feng Manor today. If word got out that so many died here, it wouldn’t look good.
By torchlight, the small woodshed was brightly lit. Serena squatted down to inspect the corpses.
Unfortunately... too much time had passed. The bodies were stiff, with no useful value left.
She shook her head regretfully. Just as Warren Yu thought she was done and about to leave, Serena pulled out a small scalpel and, with a soft sound, drove it into a corpse’s brow...
