"Don't dare? Even General Warren Yu doesn't dare?" Serena Feng's tone was laced with killing intent.

She was truly furious now.

The death of Sun Yijin, and the trouble at the Wang Clan.

The Empress and Princess Serenity were determined to wipe her out.

Even a clay figurine has a temper, let alone someone as proud as Serena Feng.

General Warren Yu gave a bitter smile. "At a time like this, how could I not dare?"

He had been pushed by Ninth Royal Uncle onto the opposite side of Prince Rowan, and wasn't sure if that was fortune or misfortune.

Unfortunately, he had no choice. This was an imperial command; he was loyal to no prince, only to the Emperor.

"Everyone, stop right now. Anyone who moves again will be killed without mercy."

General Warren Yu truly deserved his reputation as a battle-hardened commander. He rode forward, shouting, and the chaos outside the Wang Clan's gate instantly quieted down.

"General Warren Yu." The Wang Clan members looked delighted.

Their savior had arrived.

The troublemakers, however, turned pale, but they didn't back down. Instead, they shouted loudly, "The noble clans trample lives, abuse their power, protect each other—where is justice? Where is fairness?"

Such words might work on those upright ministers, but saying them to General Warren Yu was like playing music to a cow.

"Hmph..." General Warren Yu snorted coldly, drew his sword with a swish, and pointed it straight at the man shouting in the crowd. "Seize that man. If he resists, kill him on the spot."

General Warren Yu was a true military commander, radiating killing intent. His shout made his battlefield aura even more terrifying.

The troublemakers still had ideas, but General Warren Yu's roar scared them into submission.

The soldiers easily dragged the instigator out of the crowd and brought him before General Warren Yu.

"Sir, I'm innocent! I'm innocent! The Wang Clan and Serena Feng conspired to cheat and murder—please, sir, you must uphold justice for me!" The man was quite a character, kneeling and pleading loudly for justice.

But who was General Warren Yu?

He was cold-blooded to the core, utterly without emotion.

"Is that so? Fine, I'll give you a good place to lodge your complaint. Send this man to the Bloodcloak Guard." General Warren Yu gave the order without hesitation.

"Sir, you're killing the innocent, you—" The soldiers stepped forward, gagged the man's mouth, and dragged him away.

Damn, the Bloodcloak Guard.

The troublemakers grew uneasy, their eyes darting around.

They were all streetwise locals—how could they not know the terror of the Bloodcloak Guard? But...

"You corrupt official, you must have taken Wang Clan's bribes and work for them! Even if you kill us today, you can't silence the voices of the people!" Someone in the crowd shouted, and several others joined in.

General Warren Yu was not one for kindness. He ordered directly, "That one—drag him out, send him to the Bloodcloak Guard."

He pointed his sword at the instigator, but his gaze swept over the others who echoed him, scaring them into silence.

"Hahaha, Heaven is unjust, corrupt officials run rampant—where is justice?" The man dragged out by the soldiers didn't seem afraid, looking thoroughly wronged.

"Justice? Go to the Bloodcloak Guard—someone there will give you justice. Dare to be arrogant in front of me? You must be tired of living. You think having someone backing you means nothing will happen? Hmph... Anyone who stirs up trouble again, send them all to the frontier."

General Warren Yu hated courtly scheming; he preferred violence to violence.

And honestly, in situations like this, violence worked better than preaching virtue.

Because these people simply couldn't be reasoned with.

But... Serena Feng looked at General Warren Yu with worry, silently asking if this would cause trouble.

She was scared now—truly afraid that those around her would get hurt because of her.

One Sun Yijin was already enough.

"It'll be fine," General Warren Yu said confidently.

As a military officer, he didn't care about reputation the way civil officials did. Besides...

Last time he returned victorious, the Emperor still hadn't rewarded him. If the Emperor rewards him again, it has to be a noble title.

Once he's granted a title, he'll be showered with glory. But after that, the next step up would make him a prince—and by then, death wouldn't be far off.

Military commanders who overshadow the throne never end well...

So General Warren Yu wasn't worried at all about today's trouble blowing up. In fact, the bigger the mess, the better—it'd offset his merits and save the Emperor from having to reward him.

With that thought, General Warren Yu ordered his men, "The soldiers I lead aren't here to fight our own people. Be careful when you act—don't kill anyone."

In other words, as long as no one died, it was fine...

"Yes, sir." The soldiers responded without hesitation. Like tigers descending a mountain, they quickly cleared out the troublemakers at the Wang Clan's gate.

"All clear. Let's go in." General Warren Yu and Serena Feng dismounted.

Edward Wang Su, the Wang Clan patriarch, had already come out to greet them personally. But his eyes were only on General Warren Yu; as for Serena Feng?

Edward Wang Su gave her nothing but cold looks. If General Warren Yu weren't here, she wouldn't even be allowed through the Wang Clan's gate.

All of today's trouble at the Wang Clan was caused by this woman.

Serena Feng knew she was in the wrong, so she said nothing and just followed General Warren Yu inside, quietly entering the Wang estate.

After a round of formalities, Serena Feng, with General Warren Yu's mediation, stepped forward to salute Edward Wang Su.

Edward Wang Su, for General Warren Yu's sake, reluctantly accepted the salute, then said coldly, "Miss Feng, my Wang Clan does not welcome you."

"Lord Wang, I've come today to treat the eldest son's eyes." Serena Feng ignored the gossip and went straight to the point.

She had expected the Wang Clan's cold reception.

"No need. My Wang Clan can't afford to invite Miss Feng." Edward Wang Su rejected her outright.

"Lord Wang, this concerns whether the eldest son's sight can be restored. Please, be cautious." Serena Feng said through gritted teeth.

Since ancient times, it's always been patients seeking doctors—who's ever seen a doctor begging a patient?

She hadn't wanted things to turn out like this either.

"Cautious? I was too careless before, which is why I agreed to Jinling's suggestion. Miss Feng, I don't care what you want—please, spare my Wang Clan. If we can't afford to provoke you, at least we can avoid you, can't we?" Edward Wang Su was furious.

He'd gained nothing from this Serena Feng affair, but ended up covered in scandal.

"Lord Wang, if the Wang Clan wants to restore its reputation, letting me treat the eldest son's eyes is the best choice. Once his eyes are cured, the rumors will vanish. The Wang Clan's problems will disappear too. If you keep refusing, you'll only drag the Wang Clan's reputation down further." Serena Feng pointed out the heart of the issue bluntly.

"Are you threatening me?" But that wasn't how Edward Wang Su heard it.

"I wouldn't dare." Serena Feng replied calmly, unfazed by Edward Wang Su's cold stare. She was determined to treat William Wang Jinling's eyes.

"Lord Wang, at this point, neither of us has a choice. Just let me see the eldest son."

"Serena Feng, don't even think about it. I won't agree." Edward Wang Su knew she was right, but...

Even the Master of the Mystic Healer Valley said Jinling's eyes could never recover in this lifetime.

Given that, how could he dare get involved with Serena Feng again?

If Serena Feng failed, it would be a small embarrassment for her, but a huge loss of face for the Wang Clan and Jinling.

General Warren Yu was about to tell Edward Wang Su that this was an imperial order—he had no choice. But then William Wang Jinling appeared at the door and said firmly, "Father, I agree. I trust Serena Feng. She can cure my eyes."

Accompanied by Caleb Wang, William Wang Jinling walked in gracefully. His relaxed manner gave no hint of his eye condition, nor any sign that the ordeal had shaken him.

William Wang Jinling was born a nobleman; even in plain clothes and a humble room, his elegance was unmistakable.

After greeting General Warren Yu, William Wang Jinling sat down across from Serena Feng.

"Serena, seeing you come out of the Bloodcloak Guard safe and sound finally puts my mind at ease."

"Serena Feng, my big brother has been worried sick these past days." Caleb Wang looked at Serena Feng with a reproachful expression.

If Serena Feng hadn't come out, his big brother would have gone to beg Princess Serenity.

"Jinling, I'm sorry I made you worry." Serena Feng looked apologetic.

"As long as you're safe, Serena." William Wang Jinling's warm smile never faded. He didn't want Serena Feng to know what he'd done for her.

"I'm fine. I wasn't tortured in the Bloodcloak Guard. Now that I'm out, I'm discussing your eye treatment with Lord Wang." Serena Feng sounded cheerful, but there was no smile in her eyes.

Sun Yijin's case was a wound in her heart.

"Serena Feng, you're amazing—no torture in the Bloodcloak Guard! Tell us, what happened in there?" Caleb Wang played along, knowing Serena Feng had said it on purpose.

Every young noble was a shrewd one.

Edward Wang Su was curious too. He glared at Caleb Wang but didn't scold him.

Seeing this, Serena Feng recounted what happened in the Bloodcloak Guard, this time emphasizing that she cured Lu Shaolin's illness.

She didn't mention what illness it was.

The Wang Clan understood not to ask.

But what Edward Wang Su really cared about was Ninth Royal Uncle.

He looked at Serena Feng thoughtfully, wondering if he could use her to connect with Ninth Royal Uncle.

If the Wang Clan could latch onto Ninth Royal Uncle, they'd rise again.

Thinking of this, Edward Wang Su's expression softened, and he found Serena Feng a bit more agreeable.

Whatever else, this woman did have some real skill.

Edward Wang Su picked up his teacup and asked, feigning indifference, "So, Miss Feng, are you confident you can cure Jinling's eyes?"

Seeing Edward Wang Su relent, Serena Feng secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"Lord Wang, rest assured—I'm ninety percent sure I can cure the eldest son's eyes," Serena Feng said.

"That's a bold claim." Edward Wang Su replied calmly, despite his words.

"If I dare say it, I have the confidence to back it up. Lord Wang, I would never joke about the Wang Clan's reputation. Why do you think General Yu is here?" Serena Feng said.

"Why?"

"Because word of me treating the eldest son's eyes has already reached the Emperor." Serena Feng said, watching Edward Wang Su closely.

Sure enough, Edward Wang Su's expression was dramatic, but finally he just sighed, "So, the Wang Clan has no right to refuse."

"That's right." Serena Feng didn't have a choice either.

Edward Wang Su stood up, looking as if he'd aged several years in an instant. Though bitterly unwilling, he bowed solemnly to Serena Feng.

"Then, Miss Feng, I'll leave Jinling's eyes in your hands."

"Don't worry, Lord Wang. In three days, I'll return you a perfectly healthy William Wang Jinling."

Serena Feng accepted readily, without pretense.

In three days, William Wang Jinling would see again.

In three days, she'd have the face to meet Sun Yijin!
