After all, this was Lily Evans's first time as a bride, riding in the wedding sedan.
Though she agreed in her heart, Lily was too shy to actually say yes out loud.
"Wifey, pleeease?" Lucky tugged her arm, swaying side to side, his voice stretched out in a playful, pitiful way.
Just as Lily was nervously about to respond, Margaret Evans's voice called from outside: "Lily, Lucky, why aren't you up yet? Breakfast's ready—everyone's waiting for you!"
Relieved, Lily quickly replied, "Coming, Mom! We'll be right there!"
She grabbed Lucky and hurried out toward the main hall.
On the big round table in the hall, a feast was already laid out. The whole family sat around, waiting for them.
As soon as Lily and Lucky entered, all eyes turned to them like spotlights. Lily's face flushed instantly—she couldn't help but feel everyone knew what they'd done last night, which was why they got up late.
Lucky, however, was as clueless and cheerful as ever, even grinning a little goofily as he happily led Lily to their seats.
Once everyone was seated, breakfast began. Sean Hayes munched on a bun while secretly watching General Alexander Hayes's expression, thinking, Something's off—General Hayes looks extra pleased today, like a man with good news. Did something great happen?
Beside them, Leonard Li's expression was far less cheerful. Just thinking about Alexander Hayes looking so satisfied and refreshed, and the fact that the couple had actually gotten up late for once, made him uneasy.
Leonard Li's imagination ran wild, making him feel like he was sitting on pins and needles, unable to get comfortable.
Leonard Li knew that ever since Lily Evans fell into the water, she'd caught a chill, so it wasn't advisable for her to get pregnant within a year. Given Alexander Hayes's personality, he would never risk consummating their marriage. If anything happened, he couldn't bear losing Lily.
Thinking this way, Leonard felt much better. He reassured himself that they probably hadn’t gotten up late because of any romantic business—maybe Lily was just feeling weak, and with the cold weather, it made sense to sleep in.
Margaret Evans, on the other hand, was worried when she saw Lily’s dark circles. "Ah-Li, look at those dark circles! You didn’t sleep well last night, did you? Should I ask Cynthia Wu’s father to make you some calming medicine? Ever since you fell into the water, your health hasn’t been great. I worry about you so much."
Lily Evans gave an awkward chuckle. "Mom, I haven’t been sleeping well lately, so I’d appreciate it if Cynthia’s father could prescribe me something to help me relax."
Sean Hayes perked up—if his Princess Consort hadn’t slept well last night, there was an even greater chance something good had happened!
Sean immediately winked at Alexander Hayes, trying to read something from the general’s expression.
But Alexander Hayes shot him a cold glare, making Sean instantly bow his head and focus on eating his meat bun.
Gossiping about General Hayes was dangerous; asking about his bedroom matters with the Princess Consort was downright deadly.
After breakfast, Lily Evans sent someone to Cynthia Wu’s house to fetch her.
Cynthia Wu was about to give birth, so it was best to bring her over early and be prepared.
Margaret Evans enthusiastically tidied up the house, making sure Cynthia’s room was warm and cozy, even adding two side chambers for extra comfort.
Soon, the carriage returned. Mark Hunter carefully helped Cynthia Wu inside, worried that the snowy, slippery road might cause her to fall.
Cynthia looked radiant and in good spirits. As soon as she entered, she warmly hooked arms with Lily Evans.
But as soon as Lily saw Cynthia, she remembered the booklet Cynthia had given her—which triggered last night's events—and she couldn't help but blush.
"Hey, Lily, what's up with you today? You're usually so bold, but now you're acting all shy!" Cynthia sat on Lily's kang bed, glanced at the books by the bedside, and suddenly understood, teasing, "Lily, you and Lucky did 'that,' didn't you?"
