So-Called Divine Beasts

After explaining the matter of that strange person to Bing Youtian, Evan Yang asked about the location of Corpse-Refiner Mountain. Once he got the answer, he left and headed straight there, wanting to see for himself. "What did he actually see inside?" Evan Yang wondered to himself.

Evan Yang was eager to know what that person saw inside, and why he ended up so confused and delirious. With this question in mind, Evan Yang followed the directions to Corpse-Refiner Mountain. Staring at the mountain, he felt a strange sense of déjà vu, as if he'd been here before.

"Feels like I've been here before," Evan Yang muttered, watching the weird gases swirling around the place.

"Whatever, I'll just go in and take a look." After pondering for a moment, Evan Yang spoke, then flashed inside. As soon as he entered, it was like stepping into another dimension—it was nothing like a normal mountain.

All around, it looked like walls of copper and iron. Many people who had lost their minds were climbing, as if trying to escape. Evan Yang frowned. Just then, a figure suddenly flew down from above, looked at Evan Yang, and said, "Didn't expect you could keep your sanity intact."

"What is this place?" Evan Yang asked.

"What place? Now that you're here, you might as well stay and become our puppet." The man chuckled, then suddenly tossed out a blade shard. It moved incredibly fast, but no matter how fast, it couldn't match Evan Yang. With a flash, Evan Yang appeared behind the man and kicked him into the wall.

Boom—the man never expected to be taken down so fast. Blue, murky blood oozed from his wounds, adding to the bizarre scene.

"Are you not human?" Seeing the man's blood, Evan Yang asked.

"Damn it, I never thought an Immortal Lord like you would be so terrifying." The man stared at Evan Yang in panic. He'd expected to profit, but ended up in this mess.

"Cut the chatter. Are you human or not?" Evan Yang demanded.

"Human? That's just a filthy animal. Us? Ha, we're the children of the great Corpse Emperor." The man laughed wildly.

"Corpse Emperor? What are you supposed to be?" Evan Yang asked.

"You want to know? Then come with me if you've got the guts." The man sneered, then used his remaining strength to rush upward. Evan Yang jumped ahead and landed in front of him, getting a clear look at the surroundings. All around, plenty of people who'd lost their minds were leaping about like zombies, but there was another group—just like the man Evan Yang had just defeated—wearing matching blue clothes with a strange black mark on their heads.

As soon as those people saw Evan Yang, they immediately surrounded him. In an instant, dozens gathered, all eyeing him suspiciously. The badly injured man said, "Everyone, attack! Offer this outstanding human to the Corpse Emperor."

"Outstanding? How outstanding is he, really?" someone asked.

"Don't believe it? Try yourself—see if your Emperor is tougher, or if this Immortal Lord is tougher." The injured man sneered.

"Immortal Lord? How tough could he possibly be? Sean Shaw, you must be out of your mind." Chad Cole scoffed.

"If you're so brave, you go first!" Sean Shaw snapped at Chad Cole.

Just as Chad Cole was about to keep mocking Sean Shaw, Evan Yang cut in: "Enough with the bickering. Tell me where this place is, or none of you are getting out!"

"Kid, you're pretty arrogant. I didn't want to bother with you, but since you're asking for it, let's see how strong you really are." Chad Cole snorted coldly.

Just as Chad Cole finished speaking, Yang Han was already behind him, throwing a punch. Instantly, Chad's back went numb, and with a boom, he flew backward and crashed into a pile of rocks nearby.

A hush fell. Some of the braver ones charged at Yang Han after a moment, but were all defeated in turn. In the end, everyone stared at each other, then scattered in all directions, leaving only the gravely injured Sean Shaw facing Yang Han. "Talk," Yang Han said. "I'll talk, I'll talk! This is the Corpseforge Realm, ruled by the Corpse Emperor. We're all children split off from the Corpse Emperor. Strictly speaking, we're not human—every so often, we have to draw strength from the Corpse Emperor to survive," Sean Shaw explained.

As soon as Sean Shaw finished, while Yang Han was still processing this, the ground suddenly shook as if mountains were moving. There was a thunderous rumbling. "What's that sound?" Yang Han asked.

"That's one of the Four Divine Beasts under the Corpse Emperor's control," Sean Shaw said.

"Four Divine Beasts?" Yang Han frowned.

At that moment, a gigantic python appeared, coiling through the air like a dragon, but it was actually a Four-Footed Serpent.

Looking at the Four-Footed Serpent, Yang Han said, "This is a Divine Beast?"

"Y-yeah, that's right," Sean Shaw stammered, clearly terrified of the serpent.

"Filthy human, how dare you cause trouble here! I'll kill you and present you to the Corpse Emperor!" the Four-Footed Serpent roared.

"If you don't want your four legs chopped off, then come at me." Yang Han said.

"How dare you look down on me! I'll kill you!" The Four-Footed Serpent snorted, then opened its mouth wide and spat out a jet of black gas. The gas shot straight at Yang Han, moving incredibly fast. Sean Shaw was shocked, and before he could react, he was drenched in black liquid. Yang Han, however, was protected by a sheath of energy, so it posed no threat to him.

"You think that's enough to hurt me?" Yang Han said.

"Ha, you're too naive. Anywhere I spray gets infected!" The Four-Footed Serpent laughed loudly.

Yang Han looked around—the liquid bubbled like corrosive acid. Sean Shaw, who'd been sprayed, was now being eaten away, wracked with piercing pain. Yang Han saw him screaming madly until he collapsed, corroded to death in just ten breaths.

"Your poison is impressive, but I'm still perfectly fine," Yang Han said.

"You?" The Four-Footed Serpent eyed Yang Han, seeing he was unharmed and looking suspicious.

"Want to keep testing me?" Yang Han asked.

The Four-Footed Serpent was shocked—it hadn't expected Evan Yang's defense to be so tough. Refusing to give up, it tried several more times, but nothing worked. Evan just laughed, "Is that all you've got? Come on, show me something new!"

With a flash, Evan Yang jumped onto the Four-Footed Serpent's back. "Let's see how long you can handle this!" he taunted, then started pummeling away.

Although the Four-Footed Serpent's defense was impressive, Evan's pounding was just too much—it twisted and writhed in agony until it couldn't take any more.

In the end, Evan Yang smashed it to the ground. The serpent lay there, flattened and glaring up at him. "Man, you're relentless! What are you, some kind of monster?"

With a flash, Yang Han jumped onto the Four-Footed Serpent's back. "Let's see how long you can take this!" he said, then started hammering away at it.

Although the Four-Footed Serpent's defense was impressive, it couldn't stand up to Yang Han's pounding and twisted around in pain.

In the end, Yang Han smashed it to the ground, where it lay flat, glaring at him and saying, "You're disgusting, you freaky human."

"I don't have time to laugh at you. What exactly is this Corpse Emperor?" Evan Yang asked.

"Don't laugh at me, you freak!" the Four-Footed Serpent cursed.

"I don't have time to laugh at you. What exactly is this Corpse Emperor?" Yang Han asked.

"He's our Great King, of course," said the Four-Footed Serpent.

"Great King? What kind of power does he have? How strong is he?" Yang Han asked curiously.

"Same as your Immortal Sovereigns," said the Four-Footed Serpent.

"That is pretty powerful," Yang Han replied.

"Now you know! So let me go quietly, or when our Great King wakes up, it'll be your funeral." said the Four-Footed Serpent.

"I've never been afraid of that. What I don't get is why your Corpseforge Realm is here in the Fiend Realm!" Yang Han asked curiously.

"Fiend Realm? I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is lots of humans came, but most ended up as puppets, serving our Great King as delicacies every day," the Four-Footed Serpent said.

Yang Han asked suspiciously, "Delicacies?"

"That's right—your human blood. He loves it!" said the Four-Footed Serpent.

"So you guys are basically vampires," Yang Han said.

"Call it whatever you want. If you don't let me go, you'll die." said the Four-Footed Serpent. "Is that so?" Yang Han replied skeptically. At that moment, a raspy sound echoed, like snoring.

"What's that?" Evan Yang asked, curiosity piqued. The Four-Footed Serpent just lowered its head, refusing to answer. Evan socked it on the head, making it dizzy, then tossed it aside. The serpent shrank, only a few meters long now, foaming at the mouth.

"Speak," Yang Han ordered.

"Fine, I'll tell you. That's our lord, sleeping," said the Four-Footed Serpent.

"Sleeping?" Yang Han was curious—who could snore so loudly that the whole area could hear it? He said, "Take me to see him."

"You really want to go?" Hearing Yang Han's request, the Four-Footed Serpent wasn't alarmed—in fact, it was delighted. It knew that if Yang Han went, he might wake their lord, and then Yang Han would be captured.

"That's right, of course I'm going. Just tell me the route," Yang Han said.

"Ah!" exclaimed the Four-Footed Serpent.

"What? Is there a problem?" Yang Han asked, eyeing the now-shrunken serpent.

"Fine, I'll tell you." The Four-Footed Serpent finally spoke, revealing the Corpse Emperor's location to Yang Han. After it finished, Yang Han sealed the serpent and tossed it aside, then left.

Once Yang Han had gone far, three animals appeared nearby—a lion-like beast, a tiger-like beast, and a turtle-like beast.

The three beasts stared at the Four-Footed Serpent, exchanging glances. The serpent muttered inwardly, "Cowards—all three of you, only showing up now."

"That guy is really strong!" said the turtle.

"There's nothing we can do. Even the Four-Footed Serpent ended up like this. I say we let the Great King deal with it himself," said the tiger.

The lion agreed, "That's right. The Great King is so powerful—if that kid gets near him, he'll be utterly destroyed!"
