Aside from Ruby Lane’s occasional snark, everyone else was pretty friendly.
Today was the barracks’ day off.
Zara Yun planned to drop by Lord Grant’s place, handle some business, and pick up her monthly antidote.
She knew that if she wanted the antidote, she had to hand over some intel on Lucian Fox.
Luckily, Zara was prepared. She’d cooked up a half-true, half-fake report—tricking Lord Grant wouldn’t be easy.
She grabbed her stuff, changed into casual clothes, and was just about to head out when Ruby Lane blocked her. “Going somewhere?”
Zara just shot Ruby a look and slipped past her.
But Ruby wasn’t giving up. She trailed after Zara, muttering, “I honestly don’t get what the young master sees in you. Your skills are average, your looks are average. Even if Commander Sue White says you’re his pick, I still want to test you myself.”
As soon as she finished, Ruby reached out to grab Zara’s wrist.
Zara let her wrist drop, dodged Ruby’s grip, and just as Ruby ran out of steam, Zara twisted Ruby’s wrist behind her back.
Ruby was thrilled and immediately wanted to spar with Zara.
Just then, Commander Sue White’s voice rang out: “What are you two up to? This is a military base!”
Ruby and Zara let go of each other at the same time.
“Commander White, I was just messing with her,” Ruby said, sounding a little sheepish. She shot Zara a glare before turning to leave.
Once Ruby was gone, Commander White turned to Zara. “This is your new assignment from the young master. I’ll tell everyone you’re sick and send you to the clinic for a few days.”
Zara took the order, nodded, and walked away.
Commander White watched Zara’s back for a moment, eyes flickering, then left too.
Outside, Zara made sure no one was around, climbed up a big tree to hide, and finally opened Lucian Fox’s new instructions: Get close to Prince Adrian, make him fall in love with you.
Zara froze, totally stunned by the order.
