Zara Yun returned to her quarters and quickly changed clothes. By the time Ruby Lane entered, Zara had already tied up her hair and was ready to head out.
Ruby Lane lowered her voice and said, "Even though the young master told me to assist you, don't get your hopes up. I won't help you!"
Zara Yun curled her lips. "I don't need it."
With that, Zara Yun darted out of the room and vanished in a flash.
Nightfall was the perfect camouflage.
Dressed in black, Zara Yun crouched low and moved swiftly across the rooftops.
Indeed, no one understood the layout of Yun Manor better than she did. So it made sense for her to be the one searching for the item.
But was it really that simple?
Zara Yun certainly didn't think so.
Who knew if there was a trap waiting ahead?
As Zara Yun passed by, a figure slipped out from behind the shadows of a tree.
The tall figure, handsome and striking, made even the gentle moonlight seem a little shy.
A smaller figure slipped out from behind, asking softly, "Young master, since you know she's walking into a trap, why are you letting her go?"
Lucian Fox replied in a cool, detached voice, "You're meddling."
The other person immediately stepped back two paces.
But Lucian Fox continued, "She needs to understand that Yun Manor is no longer her escape route. If she wants to survive, working for me is her only choice."
Zara Yun soon reached the rooftop of Yun Manor.
But instead of dropping down immediately, Zara Yun sat patiently on the roof, clutching her sword.
The City Defense Map—how could something like that end up in Yun Manor?
Given the emperor's paranoia, there are only a few possible reasons for the City Defense Map to appear in Yun Manor.
First, it's fake news. The goal is to lure anyone interested in the City Defense Map, then catch them all in one sweep.
Second, it's real news. But the place is already surrounded—just waiting for someone to show up and walk right into the trap.
Third, someone wants to kill two birds with one stone—not just take out Yun Manor, but also get rid of Lucian Fox. I'm just a pawn in their game.
Fourth, the mastermind could be the emperor, Lucian Fox, or someone else entirely.
Bottom line, it's all a setup.
Only an idiot would rush in right away.
Zara Yun decided to wait it out. Who knows? Maybe something interesting will happen next.
Sure enough, when the moon was high, more figures rushed in from afar. Zara slipped onto a nearby tree branch, hiding herself among the leaves.
In a flash, a dozen or so shadows arrived at the same time.
Zara held her breath, making sure they didn't notice her.
Apparently, none of them cared if someone was hiding in the trees—they all had a clear goal.
To kill.
Blades flashed.
Without hesitation, those people leapt into the fray.
As expected, it wasn't long before the sounds of battle echoed below.
Zara couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
Tonight, Yun Manor is bound to be lively.
She just wondered what kind of scheme her oh-so-impressive father would pull this time.
Zara was about to enjoy the show when a cool, detached voice sounded behind her: "How long are you planning to watch?"
Zara nearly lost her balance and almost fell out of the tree!
