If Ethan Gray ever heard himself called that, who knows what his reaction would be? Maxwell Jing’s little nickname for him already drives him up the wall, so he’s listed Maxwell as one of the most annoying people he knows. If he heard Logan Qian’s way of addressing him, he might just bump Maxwell down a spot!
Leo Leaf asked in disbelief, "Why am I the last to know?" Her face darkened, her voice turning cold. "Logan Qian, don’t joke about things like this!"
Logan Qian was always playful—of course he’d joke around. She couldn’t believe Damien Gray suddenly had two children!
Hearing Leo Leaf’s reprimand, Logan Qian’s expression soured. He glanced at her gauzy white gown, a hint of mockery in his tone. "Wearing white doesn’t make you a fairy!" Noticing her sullen look, he added mischievously, "The Sect Master only likes the Sect Master’s wife—not every woman in white will catch his eye!"
Logan Qian was still young, fiercely loyal and clear about right and wrong. His nature was always like this, so when Leo Leaf made him unhappy, he saw no reason to be polite to her.
Lily Ling and Quentin Soul kept quiet. Quentin Soul rarely spoke, and as for Lily Ling, she didn’t much care for Leo Leaf either. She just shot Logan Qian a look, signaling him to ease up. The Sect Master didn’t seem to be in a good mood today—if Logan angered him, he’d be in for trouble!
But her worry seemed unnecessary. Damien Gray appeared completely oblivious to their conversation, his lack of response only deepening the mystery—what was going on with him?
Under her sleeve, Leo Leaf’s hands clenched into fists. She bit her lip and looked up at Damien Gray, her eyes tinged with hope—was she wishing he’d stand up for her, or hoping he’d deny Logan Qian’s words?
But Damien Gray didn’t even glance her way. The hope in her eyes slowly faded, replaced by sorrow.
Logan Qian curled his lip in mockery. Everyone could see what Leo Leaf was thinking. She’d always favored black—just because the Sect Master liked it. Now, seeing him dote on his wife in her white gown, she’d started copying her, too. But really, did she think the Sect Master would fall for a woman just because of her clothes?
Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu seemed oblivious to the tension among the Four Hall Masters. They lounged off to the side, their idle little gestures making them look like freeloaders to anyone who didn’t know better.
Just as the atmosphere grew tense, Damien Gray suddenly stood up and strode toward the door.
Everyone turned to look. A flash of white appeared at the doorway—then, in the next instant, fell straight into Damien Gray’s arms.
Maxwell Jing arched an eyebrow, curious what could make Prince Damien so emotional. Had the Princess Consort kicked him out of their room?
This time, he was half right. Early that morning, Damien Gray had been kicked out of bed—and out of the room—by Morgan Shangguan!
Morgan Shangguan didn’t push Damien Gray away, nor did she care about the special attention falling on her. Leo Leaf’s hostility had been clear since their first meeting, even if she tried to hide it.
She knew exactly how alluring this fox could be. Of course, there’d always be admirers flocking around him. As long as Leo Leaf didn’t cross her line, Morgan couldn’t be bothered to deal with her.
"Mo’er..." Damien Gray’s voice was full of grievance, like a puppy that had been abandoned.
He wore a mask, so the others couldn’t see his face, but that pitiful tone left everyone stunned. Was the Sect Master possessed by a ghost?
Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu were used to it by now. Whenever Morgan Shangguan was involved, no matter how outrageous Damien Gray’s actions, nothing surprised them anymore.
A hint of amusement flickered in Morgan Shangguan’s eyes, but she asked in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
Damien Gray frowned and, dissatisfied, gave her lips a gentle nip. He murmured, "You know exactly why!"
Morgan Shangguan blinked innocently. "Should I know something?" she asked, feigning ignorance.
Damien Gray narrowed his eyes at her, then suddenly smiled and caught her hand, caressing it as he leaned close. His warm breath brushed her delicate ear, painting it a lovely shade of red. Though he was so near, his voice was anything but soft—its teasing intimacy made hearts race. "You should know—I miss you." Watching her lips twitch, he added with a grin, "Right now!" With that, he whisked her away.
Morgan Shangguan let him lead her away, speechless but not resisting.
The others stared wide-eyed as the couple left. Faintly, they heard Morgan Shangguan’s playful retort: "Ghostmaster, you’re getting more and more unruly!"
Leo Leaf bit her lip as she watched them disappear, her hands clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms, leaving only a numb ache.
With a bang, the door slammed shut. Damien Gray, however, was no longer in a rush—he simply frowned at Morgan Shangguan, as if searching for something different in her.
Morgan Shangguan reached out to touch his face, smiling gently. "Don’t worry. I’m fine."
Seeing she truly was all right, Damien Gray finally relaxed. He pulled her into his arms and whispered, "Don’t scare me like that again."
Morgan Shangguan hugged him back, nestling against his chest with a teasing smile. "I never knew the Ghostmaster could be so timid!"
Damien Gray lowered his gaze, his eyes focused and earnest. He brushed his jaw against her cheek and sighed, "You know what I fear most."
Morgan Shangguan paused, then pressed a soft kiss to his lips. Her whispered promise drifted between them: "I’ll be fine. Even for you, I won’t let anything happen to myself."
Earlier, Damien Gray’s distraction hadn’t been because Morgan Shangguan kicked him out—it was because he was worried about her.
Morgan Shangguan hadn’t kicked him out of anger. It was because her spiritual power had suddenly surged out of control. After giving birth to Ethan Gray and Roxy Shangguan, her abilities had grown, but much of the increase came from what Ethan and Roxy gave back to her. She’d ignored it for a long time, but that power wasn’t truly hers yet, so it remained unstable.
