The Emperor Is Calm While the Eunuch Panics

"I have a niece who is especially smart and beautiful," the Qilin Empress Dowager said. "Why don't I talk to the Divine Empress about it, and see about betrothing her to you?"

Sean Shaw replied coolly, "No need."

"Are you shy, child?" The Qilin Empress Dowager laughed. "No need to be shy! I'm godmother to Soren and the others! Since you're close with them, you're my junior too! Nothing to be embarrassed about! My niece—"

"Empress Dowager," Sean called out. "Thank you for your kindness, but I already have a woman I care about. My apologies."

The Qilin Empress Dowager raised her brows. "Oh? You already have someone you fancy? Whose daughter is she?"

Lucy Luan bit her lip, looking at him with a mix of nervousness and hope.

But Sean, expressionless, said, "It's inconvenient to say, since it concerns the girl's reputation."

"Heh..." The Qilin Empress Dowager chuckled. "No matter whose daughter she is, she must be wonderful! Fifth Highness always has excellent taste!"

"Of course," Adrian Drake glanced at Lucy Luan, hinting, "Our Little Five has outstanding cultivation and strategy. His taste is top-notch too!"

"Is that so?" The Qilin Empress Dowager laughed. "Then, Fifth Highness, what do you think of our Lucia?"

Sean gave Lucy Luan a glance and said, "Divine Lady Lucia is, of course, exceptional."

"Right? She's my top pick for a daughter-in-law!" The Qilin Empress half-joked, half-serious. "She and my Soren grew up together as fellow disciples—I've always thought they're a match made in Heaven! Fifth Highness, don't you agree?"

Sean said nothing.

Lucy twisted her fingers and sent a voice transmission to High Goddess Vivian Lu: "Mother! Please, change the subject!"

High Goddess Vivian Lu was about to speak when Sean said, "I hope Divine Lady Lucia will have the happiest, most blissful marriage in the world."

The Qilin Empress Dowager burst out laughing. "Then I'll take that as your blessing for Lucia and Soren!"

"Oh, I have a headache," High Goddess Vivian Lu quickly rubbed her temples. "Ryan, you kids always make such a racket when you're around—go take Adrian and Fifth Highness somewhere else to play!"

Ryan, hit by friendly fire, looked utterly confused.

What did I do to make noise?

I didn't even say a word, did I?

But he still obediently got up and said to the Qilin Empress Dowager, "Um... Empress Dowager, my mother is frail and likes peace and quiet. She always complains we're too noisy! Why don't you keep her company and we'll excuse ourselves for now."

After he finished, he exchanged a glance with Adrian, who then dragged Sean Shaw along as they all took their leave and headed out to the peach grove.

"She wasn't here to see my master's wife at all! She came because she knew you were here—to stake her claim!" Adrian was exasperated. "Seriously, Little Five, you're a Divine Heir, you're the most gifted of your brothers, and you look like this... What are you afraid of? Can't you be a little more assertive?"

Sean said nothing.

"Say something! You blockhead!"

Sean ignored him.

"Hey!"

"Didn't you say I was a blockhead? What does a blockhead say?" Sean asked, inspecting a small peach.

Adrian's psychological trauma deepened. "...Honestly, the emperor isn't anxious, but the eunuch is! Whatever, I'm done with you! I really don't get what's going on in your head!"

Sean still ignored him.

After a long pause, Adrian turned to Ryan and asked, "Do you think he was too timid in front of the Qilin Empress Dowager?"
