Overestimating Oneself

1/4/2026

Julia Yu was no stranger to dealing with the arrogant Miss Lisa Li who hung around Max Mo.

A few years ago, Lisa Li got on Cecilia Gu’s bad side and ended up angering Max Mo.

Max Mo not only gave her a harsh scolding, but also cut off all contact with her.

If it hadn’t been for the trouble with Lisa Li’s parents later, Max Mo wouldn’t have bothered with her again.

Lisa Li was much more restrained now compared to before, but it still wasn’t enough.

Her bratty, unreasonable side still showed through in her little gestures.

If Julia Yu were just a rookie in the workplace, she probably would’ve been scared off by Lisa Li.

But Julia Yu wasn’t that kind of person.

So when Julia Yu heard Lisa Li say that, she immediately pulled out her phone, ready to dial: “Are you sure? I’ll call Max Mo right now. If he says yes, I’ll take you upstairs, no problem!”

Lisa Li was humiliated in front of Julia Yu again. Furious, she slapped Julia’s hand away and snapped, “Julia Yu, you’re just Max Mo’s lapdog. What are you so proud of? Max Mo will never like you—he doesn’t even care about you!”

“Is that so? Well, I’m happy.” Julia Yu pulled back her hand and said, “After all, not just anyone can be Max Mo’s lapdog. It means Max Mo appreciates me and is willing to give me this opportunity. Whether he likes me or not doesn’t matter. What matters is that my talent and knowledge are recognized and put to use. That’s enough for me. Miss Li, if I’m not mistaken, your workplace is over there. If you’re away from your post for more than half an hour during work hours, your supervisor will mark you for a major demerit and dock your bonus this month. If there’s nothing else, I’ll excuse myself.”

With that, Julia Yu turned and walked away, heading for the elevator.

Lisa Li stomped her foot in frustration, but she had to admit Julia Yu was right.

There really weren’t many women around Max Mo—most of the staff were men. Julia Yu was one of the few female employees.

But Julia Yu was always clear-headed, never crossing the line, and always worked diligently at her job.

Because of that, Max Mo and his team were especially tolerant toward Julia Yu.

Julia Yu straightened her clothes, got out of the elevator, and walked to Max Mo’s office door. Following protocol, she knocked: “Mr. Mo, the contract you asked for is here.”

Turns out, Max Mo hadn’t skipped work—he’d actually arrived at the office early.

Much earlier than Lisa Li, in fact.

That’s why Lisa Li hadn’t seen him around.

Julia Yu lowered her gaze, let out a soft breath, then her eyes grew more determined. "Yes, Mr. Mo, I'll get it done."

Good." Max Mo smiled and nodded. "Go ahead."

Yes." Julia Yu didn’t hesitate anymore and strode out.

As she closed the office door, Julia Yu’s heart grew complicated.

She didn’t know this was just another test from Max Mo.

Forget it.

Since she was getting paid, she should do work worthy of that salary!

Lisa Li had been working at the front desk of the Mo Consortium’s headquarters for three days.

But in those three days, she hadn’t seen Max Mo at all.

Lisa Li finally couldn’t take it anymore and started bombarding Max Mo’s assistant with messages and calls, driving the assistant crazy.

But he couldn’t really say anything.

After all, Lisa Li was someone the CEO had personally asked to look after.

Still, why was Lisa Li so clueless?

She was always doing things way out of her league.

Did she even realize that the more she tried, the more she annoyed the CEO?

But today, the assistant didn’t have time to worry about Lisa Li. His job was to meet Cici and the two Mo heirs at the airport.

Meanwhile, on the plane...

Cici was reading a children’s magazine with Leo and Theo Mo.

The twin boys snuggled up on either side of Cici, happily chatting away.

Leo glanced at the clouds outside and suddenly asked, "Aunt Cici, why don’t Theo and I have a mom? Why does everyone else have a mom except us?"

Theo looked up too, his eyes shining. "Can you be our mom, Cici? We want a mom so much."

Hearing Leo and Theo’s innocent words, Cici’s heart ached. She reached out and stroked their heads. "Your mom... she’s somewhere in the world, secretly watching you grow up. I can’t be your mom, but I’m your aunt, and your trustee! You can’t call me mom, but you can treat me as your mom for now. In my dreams, your mom entrusted you both to me, asking me to take good care of you."

Even though Leo and Theo were only four, they were smarter than most kids their age.

After hearing Cici’s words, they vaguely sensed it wasn’t the truth.

But they still wanted a mom’s love so badly!

Just like Yinuo has a mom, and Ziyue has a mom.

Cici sighed, not knowing how to comfort the two kids.

She could only pay more attention to their emotional growth in the future and make sure they didn’t go astray.

This trip home, Cici had two reasons: first, to bring Leo and Theo home to visit, since the Mo family’s old general was getting on in years and wanted to see his great-grandchildren.

The second reason was that Cici wanted to ask her grandmother about Yun Nuo’s daughter, Yun Shuang.

Now, Yun Shuang was so quiet, she barely seemed like a toddler over a year old.

Cici didn’t dare show anything unusual in front of her sister, so she could only sneak home and talk to her grandmother.

The third reason was that Cici wanted to privately ask Max Mo about his plans for the kids. That was part of her responsibility as their trustee.

In short, she had a lot on her plate this trip.

As the plane taxied, Cici put her arms around both kids, deliberately chatting about things they liked to distract them from the tough questions.

When the plane came to a smooth stop, the assistants unbuckled their seatbelts and hurried over to help Leo and Theo, and to escort Cici off the plane and down the corridor.

From a distance, they could see Max Mo’s assistant already waiting with a big smile.

"Miss Yun, thank you so much for taking care of the two young masters." Max Mo’s assistant grinned from ear to ear when he saw Cici.

He still refused to call Cici Mrs. Yin, insisting on calling her Miss Yun. His stubbornness was both amusing and admirable.

"It’s nothing. Leo and Theo are very well-behaved, not troublesome at all." Cici smiled. "Since you’re here, I’ll leave Leo and Theo with you."

"Mr. Mo instructed us to handle all your arrangements during this trip. We’ll provide full service for you." The assistant beamed. "No need to be polite. Even though Eastshire Province is your family’s base, the Mo family can offer the most convenient and comprehensive support for your travels. This is Mr. Mo’s thoughtful gesture—please accept it. By the way, Lawyer Julia Yu will accompany you. Since you rarely visit Eastshire, there might be people who don’t recognize you and cause trouble. Julia is one of Mr. Mo’s trusted aides, and many people know her. With her around, you can rest assured about any legal matters."

Cici immediately smiled and greeted Julia Yu in the crowd, then replied to the assistant, "Alright, since you’ve put it that way, it’d be rude for me to refuse. Max and I aren’t strangers, so if he’s arranged it, I’ll accept."

"Thank you, Miss Yun. We’re honored to serve you." The assistant said respectfully.

Julia Yu stepped forward, her expression calm and professional, ready to accompany Cici throughout the trip.

The group left the airport together, heading toward the Mo family estate.

Leo and Theo were curious about everything along the way, asking Cici endless questions.

Cici patiently answered, her heart full of warmth as she watched the twins.

Julia Yu observed quietly, her thoughts unreadable.

When they arrived at the estate, the old general was already waiting for them in the living room.

He smiled kindly at Leo and Theo, beckoning them over.

The twins ran to him, calling out, "Great-grandpa!"

The old general laughed, his eyes crinkling with joy as he hugged the boys.

Cici watched the scene, feeling a wave of emotion.

Julia Yu quietly stepped aside, giving the family space.

After a while, the old general looked at Cici and said, "Thank you for bringing the children home."

Cici smiled, "It’s only right, Grandpa. They missed you."

Leo and Theo clung to the old general, chattering about everything they’d seen on the trip.

The living room was filled with laughter and warmth.

Julia Yu stood by, watching quietly, her heart full of complex feelings.

Cici glanced at Julia, sensing her unease.

She walked over and whispered, "Don’t worry, you’re part of the family now."

Julia Yu smiled faintly, feeling a little more at ease.
