Overwhelmed by Trivial Matters

"Yina, I've never asked you for a promise." Gavin Gao's voice grew even more despondent as he continued, "You've seen everything I've done in the past six months. My feelings for you couldn't be clearer. Honestly, I really wanted to keep waiting—waiting until you'd willingly marry me. But I never expected something like this to happen to Grandpa. I want to fulfill his dream, but I can't just marry someone for the sake of it. That wouldn't be fair to anyone."

"So I came to see you today because I want to ask—are you willing to be with me? Even if we don't get married right away, just dating would make Grandpa so happy. I only want him to leave this world without regrets, not with unfulfilled wishes." Gavin Gao looked up, his eyes bloodshot, clearly showing he'd barely slept these days.

"I..." Yina Yin hesitated immediately. "Let me think about it."

Just then, the food arrived, but neither Gavin nor Yina felt like eating.

Yina Yin held a glass of juice, sipping slowly, her mind in turmoil.

Yes, she couldn't stop thinking about Miles Gu's primary persona, but who could say if his real self would ever return?

If Miles Gu's primary persona came back, everyone would be happy.

But what if he never comes back?

Would she spend her whole life just waiting?

But then, looking at it another way...

If she chose Gavin Gao out of pity, and ended up in a loveless marriage, would that really be good for either of them?

Wouldn't that just make them a resentful couple?

Is a lie told out of kindness really kindness?

If the two families ended up enemies, what would be the point?

But then, could she really just stand by and watch an old man's last wish go unfulfilled? Would she regret it?

Yina Yin's mind was torn between two thoughts, and even after finishing the meal, she still hadn't made up her mind.

This was just too difficult.

Any decision she made could lead to disaster.

Gavin Gao stayed silent, just quietly eating. He didn't even notice what he was eating, just chewing mechanically.

"Mr. Gao, it's time. We should head back." Gavin's assistant reminded him softly.
