Ryan King's mind was on high alert.
Huh?
Is this a trick question or what?
If I say I did a great job farming, what if he tells me to keep doing it? I really don't want to farm anymore! I'm so sick of it!
But if I say I did a lousy job, will Dad get mad and punish me for not even being able to farm properly?
Oh, Mom, where are you? Come back and save your poor son!
"Dad... Why are you asking me this?" Ryan shifted uneasily. "Just say what you want to say!"
Julian King shot his son a glare. "You... Never mind. If you were half as steady as Ethan Yin, I wouldn't be so worried."
"Seriously, Dad, what are you trying to say?" Ryan said. "For the past six months, Ethan's been making me farm nonstop. Was that your idea?"
So what if I did?" Julian King glared at him.
Okay, okay, I just want to know—why did you make me farm in the first place? It's not like our family is so poor we need me to grow our food, right? Ryan quickly stood up and started massaging his dad's shoulders, trying to curry favor. Honestly, I've always wondered. At first, Ethan made all of us farm because some organization was targeting rich kids like us. But later, everyone else stopped farming except me, and I had to keep learning, and I had to do it well. I knew something was up. I asked Ethan a few times, but he wouldn't tell me, so I figured there had to be a reason. Dad, since you're asking about farming today, is there something you want to say?
Julian gave his son an approving look. "Smart kid."
Go on, tell me," Ryan quickly poured his dad a cup of tea and sat beside him, ready to listen.
You know our family has a partnership with the Yin family on a project. That project involves..." Julian explained the GF-112 Project to Ryan, then continued, "After discussing, we agreed that you're the best fit to go undercover. First, you're lively and likable. Second, you have too much free time. Third, I don't trust anyone else with this. Stay alert and don't get tricked."
Julian warned seriously, "We don't have much time. We have to take that hill within six months, or all our early investment is wasted. Most of our family's working capital is tied up in this project now. If we lose it, you won't be the King family's heir anymore—you'll be begging for food at your uncle's house!"
That serious? Then I'd rather stick with Mom—she's got money!" Ryan joked. "Dad, you're just not as rich as Mom!
You brat!" Julian scolded, laughing as he tossed a paperweight at him.
Ryan caught it with a grin.
Jokes aside, Ryan could be counted on when it really mattered.
There are a lot of people watching this project, waiting for us to slip up so they can swoop in and profit," Julian said. "We've invested so much, whoever takes over will make a killing. Foreign investors are eager too—they're eyeing the GF-112 Project. That's why we kept you in the dark, to avoid leaks."
Alright, I know what to do now. No wonder Ethan kept quiet about all this." Ryan nodded. "Since it's our family's business, of course I'll take it seriously. Dad, don't worry—I won't let you down."
Good. Get ready these next few days. We'll set off right after the New Year." Julian folded his hands on the table, voice serious. "Your safety comes first. Money can be earned back, but if you lose your life, that's it! Make sure to bring a few people with you!
Got it, sir!" Ryan jumped up. "I'll start preparing right now."
Meanwhile, Charles Yin was giving Ethan Yin a stern reminder: "The importance of the GF-112 Project goes without saying. We've set up so much groundwork—there can't be any mistakes."
Yes, Dad, don't worry—I'm keeping an eye on everything," Ethan replied. "We grabbed all those resources for this project, right? Our family poured so much money and effort into this, there's no way I'll let it fail halfway. Uncle Julian should be talking to Ryan about it now. Ryan's smart—he'll handle it. The environment over there is tough, so I'll get him some extra supplies, just in case."
Charles nodded, satisfied. "You've never let me down. I trust you, son."
Once Sakura gets back, we'll rest for a couple of days and then head out," Ethan said, knowing time was tight. There was no room for romance now—every second counted.
What about Yina?" Charles asked. "Haven't seen her today."
I think Miles Gu called her out," Ethan said, sounding annoyed. "He really is a handful. I still don't get why his second personality is so stubborn."
Charles frowned. "Let's wait and see."
Right now, Yina was about to explode from Miles Gu's constant pestering!
I've already made myself clear, haven't I?" Yina snapped at Miles Gu. "Stop sending me all this stuff—I won't accept it."
The floor was covered with gifts—all sorts of fancy things Miles Gu had brought back from England.
Miles Gu didn't even flinch. "Whether you accept them is up to you. Sending them is up to me."
Yina, frustrated, kicked one of the boxes across the floor.

With a bang, the box tumbled open, revealing an antique piece of jewelry—clearly a rare collector's item, probably worth a fortune.
It had to be worth at least a few million.
If you called me out just to give me these things, then don't bother coming next time," Yina said coldly. "I have nothing more to say to you."
But this is my home too. You can't stop me from coming back, can you?" Miles Gu said with a smile.
