Ethan Yin replied without even looking up: "I've already told you..."
"I've already arranged for someone trustworthy to handle my work." Yina Yin interrupted Ethan: "I've already spoken to Mom, and she'll have someone temporarily take over for me."
Only then did Ethan put down his work, frowning: "Is Miles Gu bothering you again?"
"It's not just Miles Gu. There's a whole bunch of trouble." Yina didn't hide anything and told Ethan everything that happened today.
Gavin Gao is waiting for my answer, but I don't want to give one. I don't want to lie to myself—that's not fair to me or to Gavin. Yan's personality is just... too soft. I have to tiptoe around him, and if I say the wrong thing, he'll burst into tears. I can't deal with him right now. As for Fan's mess, I want even less to get involved, but problems just keep coming to me for no reason. Ethan, do you know what Miles did today? He sent over some of the Field family's treasures. What does he mean by that? Is he trying to force me to admit we're together? I refuse to be manipulated like this."
Ethan frowned even deeper: "Miles is really crossing the line."
"Exactly!" Yina nodded vigorously. "That's why, out of sight, out of mind—just send me away!"
Ethan also knew that dealing with Miles was tricky—he couldn't be too harsh or too soft. It was definitely a hassle.
Given the situation, hiding from Miles really was the best option for Yina.
As for everyone else, well, they'll just have to deal with their own fate!
"Alright, I'll make arrangements." Ethan nodded. "Remember to keep it a secret for now."
"Got it," Yina nodded.
"By the way, about Gavin—if you really don't feel that way about him, you should give him an answer soon." Ethan said, "Gavin has never wronged you."
Yina paused for a moment and said, "I understand."
Leaving the room, Yina took a deep breath and sent Gavin a message: "Sorry, Gavin, I can only visit your elders as your junior."
Gavin received the message while he was in the hospital corridor.
Reading the message, Gavin's expression was somewhere between tears and laughter.
After waiting so long, was he still not going to get her affirmation?
Yina, you really are so heartless.
"Gavin, your grandpa..." Mrs. Gao hurried out and saw her son suddenly turn around, as if wiping away tears. Mrs. Gao stopped in her tracks and slowed her pace: "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing, Mom." Gavin tried to act as if nothing was wrong. "I'm just having a hard time. Grandpa probably doesn't have much time left."
Mrs. Gao didn't doubt him. She spoke in a heavy tone: "When your grandfather was younger, his health was poor and he paid a great price to make it this far. But the doctor says that now, even the best medicine can't help anymore."
Gavin put his arm around his mother's shoulders to comfort her: "Mom, we've done all we can. The rest is up to fate."
Mrs. Gao nodded heavily and asked, "Your grandfather's greatest wish before the end is to see you get married and have children. I'm afraid there isn't enough time now."
Gavin's heart ached even more when he heard that: "I'm sorry, Mom."
"You and Miss Yin—is there no chance anymore?" Mrs. Gao asked.
A mother always understands her son's heart best.
After more than ten years, Gavin's heart had never changed.
But the Yin Family isn't so easy to climb.
Mrs. Gao understood, too—the Yin Family might never accept the Gao Family.
"Mom, let's not talk about this anymore." Gavin was struggling inside, but still refused to admit defeat. Once again, he failed: "Let's go in and see Grandpa."
"Alright." Mrs. Gao nodded slowly and walked inside with heavy steps.
Time flew by, and another month passed.
International Airport, Newport City.
Emily Cherry pulled her simple suitcase and walked out quickly.
Only when she looked up at the blue sky did she finally let out a long breath!
Grandma, I'm finally back!
This time, I'm never going back to that wretched place again!
"Cherry!" Ethan Yin hurried over from afar: "You've had a tough time!"
With that, Ethan gave Emily Cherry a big hug.
