Muriel Murong twitched her lips. Do men really compliment a woman's looks? She took a deep breath, grabbed his hand, and strode forward, declaring with righteous conviction, "Don't worry! I promise I'll take good care of you!"
Suddenly, the two of them stopped in their tracks. Noah Duanmu pulled Muriel Murong into his arms and looked at the person standing opposite. "Big Brother..."
Liam Duanmu glanced at Muriel Murong, then frowned at Noah Duanmu and spoke, "Noah, do you know what you're doing?"
Noah Duanmu replied, "I've thought it through! Big Brother, I know I've always been selfish. I dislike being tied down, so I spent my days idling around, letting all the responsibilities that should've been mine fall on your shoulders!"
Liam Duanmu frowned, "I never thought it was hard. You know that. But now that you're leaving, have you thought about our parents? They'll be heartbroken!"
Noah Duanmu was silent for a moment before replying softly, "I know."
"Big Brother, you once asked me what I would do if I fell in love with someone I shouldn't love. I didn't give you an answer then, but now I can!"
Noah Duanmu looked at him and asked, "Big Brother, do you regret it? Maybe you don't, but I know if I give up, I will!" Noah Duanmu may seem unreliable, but he has always known exactly what he wants.
Though he had pondered for so long, the answer had always been clear in his heart. From the very start, he knew that Quentin Drake would never approve of his relationship with Muriel Murong. Yet, he still chose to declare his intention to marry her in front of all the martial world. His hesitation these past days was only because he didn't want to hurt his loved ones. He wanted the best of both worlds, but in the end, he couldn't find a way. Getting Quentin Drake to accept Muriel Murong was simply impossible!
The reason he wrote such an ambiguous letter to Muriel Murong was actually to see where he stood in her heart. If she didn't care much about him, maybe he would choose to let go. That way, he wouldn't hurt his family or Muriel Murong—letting go would be the best choice.
But in truth, Muriel Murong had anxiously rushed to the Grandmaster's Estate. He knew he couldn't let go anymore—from the very beginning, he was the one who pursued her. Now, he couldn't bear to hurt her, nor did he want to.
No matter who Muriel Murong was, he only knew that he loved her!
As for their parents, with Big Brother taking care of them, he felt more at ease. All he could do was hope they'd forgive him in the end.
Noah Duanmu said in a low voice, "Big Brother, I don't want to fight you!"
Muriel Murong, seeing Liam Duanmu remain silent, pouted and said, "So what if I'm from the Evil Path? Yes, I've killed people—haven't you righteous folks killed, too? The difference is, when we kill, it's called slaughtering innocents. When you kill, it's called upholding justice. Both are just four words, both spoken by you righteous people. Hypocrisy!"
Noah Duanmu quickly covered her mouth, helplessly saying, "Could you say a little less?"
Muriel Murong pried his hand away and huffed, "But it's true! So many people died when we went to Healer's Sanctuary—you all saw it! And yet Healer's Sanctuary is still one of the Three Great Factions! Why? It's all about interests!"
"So, when the righteous kill, there's no need to pay with their lives. But when the evil kill, you righteous people hunt us down and curse us forever. Is that fair? Is that how a Martial Alliance Leader should act?"
Noah Duanmu looked at her, utterly headache-stricken, but Muriel Murong's eyes suddenly lit up. She cupped his face and leaned in closer—Noah Duanmu froze. Was she really about to...?
Muriel Murong's eyes sparkled. "Rogue Noah, I just realized you're actually pretty good-looking! How about you become Martial Alliance Leader? Then the whole righteous path could be my dowry, and the Cloud Guild would rule the world! That's a great idea!" She clapped her hands, looking at him expectantly.
Noah Duanmu looked at her lovestruck expression and twitched his lips, utterly speechless.
In the shadows, Morgan Shangguan leaned against Damien Gray's chest, chuckling softly. "That girl is at it again!" Muriel Murong was capable and composed when it came to serious matters, but she had one flaw.
She was innocent and imaginative, so she often came up with all sorts of strange ideas!
Damien Gray shook his head. "It really is a flaw! Has she forgotten about the Ghost Gate? And anyway, the Martial Alliance Leader is chosen for martial skill—not looks!"
But if Noah Duanmu really tried to become Martial Alliance Leader, it might just be possible!
"Morgan... since we've already notified people to meet up with them, shouldn't we head back? If we wait any longer, it'll be dawn soon. Pregnant women need rest, you know, but you don't seem to care at all. It's really worrying!"
Morgan Shangguan wrapped her arm around his waist and bargained, "Can we wait a little longer? You want to see Noah Duanmu's true strength too, right?"
Damien Gray frowned. "They might not even fight. Besides, Noah Duanmu's strength isn't more important than yours!"
Morgan Shangguan sighed, burying her face in his chest, and weakly said, "Do you know how hard it is to be pregnant? When my belly gets bigger, I won't be able to move at all. While I can still move, I should get some exercise—otherwise, after the baby comes, my health will definitely suffer!"
Damien Gray frowned at the head resting on his chest, lost in thought, his expression a little odd as strange ideas began to form in his mind.
Morgan Shangguan noticed his lack of response and looked up at him, her eyes a bit pitiful.
Damien Gray stroked her head and asked uncertainly, "Morgan, do you think you might be possessed by the baby?"
Morgan Shangguan frowned. "How could that be? My body isn't so easily possessed, and I don't believe my baby is some evil spirit reincarnated!"
Damien Gray kissed her forehead. "Once the Cloud Guild people arrive, we'll go back!"
"Alright!" Morgan Shangguan smiled, kissed his cheek, and continued watching the standoff.
Damien Gray had no interest in paying attention to Liam Duanmu, his romantic rival. Instead, he kept his eyes on Morgan Shangguan, deep in thought. He knew pregnant women could have mood changes, but somehow, Morgan's reactions felt different from ordinary expectant mothers.
