Baby's Preference

12/2/2025

Damien Gray looked suspiciously at her belly. How old was the baby now? How could a child in its mother's womb already know how to want things?

"Huh?" Muriel Murong was stunned. "So Noah Duanmu doesn't want to die?" She breathed a sigh of relief, then widened her eyes at Damien Gray, full of surprise. "Ghostmaster?" Only now did she notice there was another living person besides Morgan Shangguan.

Morgan Shangguan raised an eyebrow. Damien Gray wasn't dressed as the Ghostmaster at all, but she wasn't surprised that Muriel Murong could recognize him.

Morgan Shangguan didn't care. "Whatever!" she said, then leaned into Damien Gray's arms and closed her eyes to rest.

Morgan Shangguan behaved herself and stayed quiet for a few days. But late one night, she tried her old trick again and attempted to sneak out. This time, however, Damien Gray was prepared—just as she was about to slip off the bed, he pulled her back.

"Where are you going?"

But why was Ghostmaster with the Guildmaster? And they seemed so close. Aren't Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild supposed to be mortal enemies now?

Morgan Shangguan smiled and patted Damien Gray's hand, then turned to Muriel Murong and said, "If you need anything, ask Claude Yun and the others for help!"

Muriel Murong nodded, watching Morgan Shangguan and Damien Gray leave. Then she turned to look at the high walls of the Grandmaster's Estate, frowning. Should she go in?

Inside the Grandmaster's Estate, Noah Duanmu was swinging a rat by its tail. The rat struggled and squeaked, but Noah just mechanically kept swinging it, his brows furrowed in thought, completely oblivious to the creature's misery.

Morgan Shangguan was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh and cry. "Damien Gray, how could you curse your own child like that?"

Damien Gray opened his eyes and looked at her. "If you don't want that to happen, then rest properly!"

Morgan Shangguan snuggled into him, drawing out her voice, "Damien..." Damien Gray pressed her head into his chest and closed his eyes.

Because of her pregnancy, Morgan Shangguan's personality had changed a bit. She was no longer so aloof and had become more affectionate towards him. He was completely helpless in the face of her antics, so he simply pretended not to see—otherwise, no matter what she said, he'd always give in. She was truly his nemesis!

In the end, the two of them still ended up outside the Grandmaster's Estate.

"Guildmaster..." Muriel Murong had already been waiting outside the Grandmaster's Estate, her face full of anxiety, as if something serious had happened.

Morgan Shangguan frowned and asked, "What exactly happened?" If Muriel Murong hadn't said it was a matter of life and death, she wouldn't have snuck out in the middle of the night!

"Guildmaster, look!" Muriel Murong handed Morgan Shangguan a letter. "This is a letter Noah Duanmu had someone deliver to me. I'm afraid he might do something desperate!"

Morgan Shangguan opened the letter. There was only one line: "To share the same bed in life, to share the same grave in death!"

Morgan Shangguan was silent. Muriel Murong was so anxious she was about to cry and asked cautiously, "Noah Duanmu won't commit suicide, will he?"

Damien Gray gently helped Morgan Shangguan with her cloak, his movements tender but his tone a little cold. "It's just a love letter!" Clearly, Noah Duanmu was trying to say he wouldn't give up on this relationship.

"Huh?" Muriel Murong was stunned. "So Noah Duanmu doesn't want to die?" She breathed a sigh of relief, then widened her eyes at Damien Gray, full of surprise. "Eh? Lord Ghost King?" Only now did she notice there was another living person besides Morgan Shangguan.

Morgan Shangguan raised an eyebrow. Damien Gray wasn't dressed as the Ghost King at all, but she wasn't surprised that Muriel Murong could recognize him.

Damien Gray was quite displeased at being disturbed in the middle of the night, and naturally let out a hint of coldness. Muriel Murong was sensitive enough to pick up on it—no surprise there!

Because Muriel Murong was one of Morgan Shangguan's people, Damien Gray didn't mind too much and carelessly revealed his identity.

Damien Gray didn't comment further. Anyone Morgan Shangguan trusted, he wouldn't doubt. He simply glanced at Muriel Murong, then turned and left with Morgan Shangguan in his arms. Muriel Murong pursed her lips and didn't try to stop them—she knew it was her fault for disturbing the Guildmaster so late, but she really had been frightened!

But why was Lord Ghost King with the Guildmaster? And they seemed so close. Aren't Ghost Sect and Cloud Guild supposed to be mortal enemies now?

Morgan Shangguan smiled and patted Damien Gray's hand, then turned to Muriel Murong and said, "If you need anything, ask Leng Yun and the others for help!"

Muriel Murong nodded, watching Morgan Shangguan and Damien Gray leave. Then she turned to look at the high walls of the Number One Manor, frowning. Should she go in?

Inside the Number One Manor, Noah Duanmu was swinging a rat by its tail. The rat struggled and squeaked, but Noah just mechanically kept swinging it, his brows furrowed in thought, completely oblivious to the creature's misery.

Noah Duanmu knew that if he insisted on being with Muriel Murong, his family would be deeply disappointed. During this time, he'd been obediently confined by Quentin Drake, needing time to seriously consider whether he truly couldn't live without Muriel Murong.

And now, it was time to make a decision!

Suddenly, his grip loosened and the rat dropped to the floor, darting away with a squeak. A startled cry immediately came from outside the door.

Noah Duanmu curled his lips into a smile, opened the door, and pulled the person outside in.

Muriel Murong shoved him away. "Get lost, don't touch me! You're disgusting—playing with rats again!"

Thinking of Noah Duanmu's hand touching the rat made Muriel Murong's scalp tingle. With a "smack!" she slapped his hand away.

But Noah Duanmu deliberately leaned closer, hugging her tightly so she couldn't escape. Muriel Murong struggled and shouted, "Noah Duanmu, you're disgusting! If I'd known, I wouldn't have come in!"

Noah Duanmu rubbed his face against hers and sighed, "Little enchantress, you can't just abandon me after leading me on!"

Muriel Murong was about to say something when Noah Duanmu, suddenly serious, pulled her out the door. "Let's go!"

Muriel Murong was stunned. "Are you running away from home?" she asked.

Noah Duanmu replied in a low voice, "Maybe I'll never come back again!"

Muriel Murong wasn't stupid. She grabbed his hand and said gloomily, "You won't regret it? I'm not pretty, not gentle, and I'm afraid of rats!"

Noah Duanmu pulled her into his arms and laughed, "It's perfect—I am pretty, gentle, and not afraid of rats. We're a perfect match!"
