Victor Bai and his two cronies sped out of the city, moving incredibly fast. A few curious bystanders followed to watch the spectacle, and soon news of the City Lord's son assaulting people in broad daylight was spreading like wildfire.
Evan Lin and Lena Zhong stopped in front of the city gate. "You two, act natural as you leave the city—don't draw suspicion from the gate guards. If they stop you and waste time, it'll be trouble. We'll wait for you outside the walls."
For Allen Hua and Ruby Wang, hearing voices with no visible source was a first. They didn't say much—just headed straight for the city gate, with Ruby supporting the wounded Allen.
"Stop! Why is he in this state? Did you get into a fight inside the city?" A gate guard immediately blocked their way and questioned them.
"Officer, my husband was beaten up outside the city and we came in to see a doctor. We already explained to the gate guards when we entered this morning. Please be generous and let us leave—he needs to rest and can't afford any more delays." Ruby Wang quickly explained.
The guard saw Allen's pale face and figured he really couldn't take any more trouble. He frowned and said, "I hope you're not lying to me. If I find out you are, don't even think about entering the city next time. Go on!"
"Thank you, officer, thank you!" Ruby Wang said gratefully, and the two of them exited the city gate.
After walking a short distance along the main road, the two of them took to the air—since Evan Lin was transmitting directions to them. The gate guards saw their every move clearly, but flight was allowed outside the city walls, so they could only watch as the pair left.
Just then, Victor Bai arrived at the city gate. "Did you see a young woman and a blood-soaked youth leave through here?" he demanded.
Victor Bai was a celebrity in Azure Moon City, and the gate guards naturally recognized him. Plenty of guards also knew Allen Hua, but as luck would have it, the one on duty today didn't—otherwise, he might've let them go right away, since Allen and Victor were former brothers and their connection was well-known.
"Just now, a woman took a man out through the gate. May I ask why you’re looking for them, Young Master?" asked the gate guard.
"Idiot! Those two are fugitives from the City Lord’s Mansion, and you dare let them go? What do you think your punishment should be? Which direction did they fly off to? Hurry up and spit it out!" Victor Bai roared, itching to slap the guy silly.
"They flew west shortly after leaving the city. They're injured, so they can't be moving fast. If you chase now, Young Master, you should catch up easily!" the guard stammered, suddenly realizing how unlucky he was to run into trouble today.
"Let’s go! I swear I won’t rest until I kill him today—and when I get back, I’ll deal with you too!" Victor Bai fumed.
The guard was drenched in sweat, feeling his good days were numbered. If he'd known, he never would've swapped shifts with Zhao San last night. Sure, he had fun all night, but now he might not even live to regret it.
Victor Bai and his two cronies immediately flew out of the city, heading west as the guard had said. This time, he didn't bring the gate guards along—he didn't want to risk anyone not coming back.
Just then, Evan Lin and Lena Zhong revealed themselves, both with their faces covered by black gauze to avoid unnecessary trouble. "Thank you, benefactors, for saving us—Allen Hua is truly grateful!"
"It's only right to help when you see injustice. You two should hurry and go—best to leave Azure Moon City and find somewhere no one knows you. We'll hold off that bastard Victor Bai for you," Evan Lin said.
"May I ask your honored names, benefactors? If I live, I’ll repay you one day!" Allen Hua said.
"Enough talk—saving your life comes first. If we’re truly fated, we’ll meet again!" Evan Lin replied.
"Brother Lin, let’s go—don’t waste our benefactors’ kindness. If we wait any longer, it’ll be too late!" Ruby Wang urged.
Gritting his teeth, Allen Hua quickly flew off in another direction. Evan Lin and Lena Zhong exchanged faint smiles. "Let’s hope they make it through this ordeal," Evan said.
Suddenly, three figures appeared up ahead, instantly blocking Evan Lin and Lena Zhong’s path. It was Victor Bai and his two cronies. Seeing the two masked strangers, Victor looked puzzled.
"Who are you two, and why are you masked in broad daylight? Did you do something shady?" Victor Bai demanded.
"Why we’re masked is none of your business. What right do you have to question us? Are you the City Lord of Azure Moon City? Besides, we’re outside the city—you have no authority here," Evan Lin replied calmly, his eyes full of disdain.
"How dare you talk to my young master like that! Are you tired of living? Kneel and apologize, or you’ll regret it!" one of Victor Bai’s lackeys shouted.
Victor Bai straightened up, finally feeling important, but Evan Lin was unimpressed. "Young master? I don’t care about that. All I see are three stray dogs blocking the road. Good dogs don’t block the way—step aside, I’m headed into the city."
Victor Bai was furious. How could the City Lord’s son be insulted like this? "You two, cripple that guy. As for the woman—her figure’s not bad. If her face is pretty, maybe she’ll be some fun. That’ll let me vent my anger."
Victor’s two lackeys immediately drew their weapons and charged at Evan Lin. Lena Zhong wasn’t about to let them get away with it—anyone who dared target her was asking for death. Outside the city, she didn’t need to give City Lord Bai Dong any respect.
She couldn’t kill Victor Bai outright, but she could certainly give him a beating. As for the other two, they had to die—sycophants like them were the reason Victor was so arrogant. Evan Lin was only early God-Lord realm; against one opponent, Lena wouldn’t worry, but two was a different story.
"If you want to get to him, you’ll have to go through me first!" Lena Zhong flashed forward, a dark-green longsword appearing in her hand as she spun two sword flowers and attacked the pair.
Evan Lin dodged to the side, curious to see Lena Zhong’s true strength. Not far away, an old man was watching their every move with rapt attention.
Evan Lin and the others didn’t notice the old man. Seeing Evan isolated, Victor Bai hardened his heart and shot toward him, planning a sneak attack.
Evan Lin was an experienced fighter. As soon as Victor Bai moved, he knew the guy was coming for him. Late-stage God-Lord realm? Perfect for some practice. He couldn’t use the Frostbane Divine Sword now, so he’d try the Chaos Arm with Demon-Breaking Fist instead.
A fierce battle erupted outside the city...
