Attacking a woman—especially one he claims to love—in broad daylight, Victor Bai's character was laid bare for all to see. The crowd's disgust for him ran deep; if not for fear of his father's status, plenty would have stepped up to teach him a lesson right then.
The young man beside Ruby Wang quickly pulled her aside and struck out with a palm. Though his attack carried the sound of wind and thunder, it was far weaker than Victor Bai's sword strike. Facing sword with a bare palm was suicide.
The outcome was obvious. The youth was gravely wounded again—Victor's sword pierced straight through his palm, sending him flying five or six meters. Blood gushed from his hand, and he lay there, pale as death, unable to get up, as if he could die at any moment.
Evan Chu frowned slightly. He instinctively hated people like Victor, but as the City Lord’s son, Victor was a dangerous target. Evan wanted to save the youth, yet hesitated, caught between caution and conscience.
Lena Zhong glanced at Evan’s expression and said, “What, you want to play the hero? Victor Bai’s at late-stage God-Lord, and his status is special. I say let it go—these are troubled times, and there’s no need to risk yourself for some stranger.”
“Honestly, I do want to step in—Victor is just too hateful. But you’re right, sometimes you have to endure. There’s too much injustice in this world; why stick my neck out every time?” Evan forced a bitter smile, though inwardly he was already thinking how to save the youth and the girl.
“It’s not impossible to save them. Can you use the Light element to turn invisible? I can. If you can too, we could grab them and rush out of the city—outside the gate, even Victor Bai wouldn’t dare act recklessly. If he pushes it, I’ll cut him down myself. Of course, helping these two will definitely draw attention and trouble. Think it over.” Lena said.
“Outside the city gate, he won’t dare get out of hand. If he tries, I’ll personally finish him. But rescuing these two will definitely get us investigated, and the trouble won’t be small. You really need to think it through.” Lena added.
Seeing her beloved Allen Hua severely wounded by Victor, Ruby Wang didn’t attack Victor, but instead rushed to Allen’s side to check his injuries. “Brother Lin, if I can die with you today, it’s worth it. Will you blame me?” she choked out.
“Hong, what are you saying? Meeting you has been the happiest thing in my life. I just made the mistake of trusting a depraved villain. But don’t worry, even if I die today, I’ll drag him down with me!” Allen Hua snarled, his eyes flashing so coldly it seemed to freeze the air.
Victor Bai burst into wild laughter. “Allen, today I’ll make you two a pair of dead mandarin ducks—how’s that? Honestly, Ruby’s taste wasn’t bad at all. I almost wish I could enjoy her a few more times, but now that she’s ruined, I’ve lost interest. Any last words? As your old friend, I’ll grant you one final wish.”
Victor’s shameless words made Ruby Wang want to tear him to pieces. She’d seen shameless men before, but never anyone this vile. Tears of humiliation welled up and spilled down her cheeks.
“Brother Lin, I’m not worthy of you anymore. Let me do one last thing for you—if you can survive this disaster and someday meet a better woman, live well. That would make me content.” Ruby sobbed.
Allen knew exactly what Ruby meant—none of this was her fault, and her feelings for him ran deep. “Don’t be foolish, Hong. If we live, we live together; if we die, we die together. No matter what’s happened, I’ll never despise you. It’s just a shame we may never get another chance. It’s hard to accept!”
“Are you done with the nonsense? Then it’s time to send you both on your way!” Victor snapped, unable to stand their show of affection—every word felt like a slap in his face.
Just then, an aged voice rang out. “Kid, show some mercy. You may be Dominic Bai’s son, so I won’t kill you, but a little lesson wouldn’t hurt.”
As the words faded, a white-haired elder stepped out from the crowd. His aura surged, forcing everyone to retreat—his presence pressed down so hard it made people feel suffocated.
“This is it!” Evan thought, glancing at Lena. This was the perfect chance to save the couple.
The two exchanged a silent understanding and quickly slipped through the crowd to a street corner where there were fewer people. Evan activated Lightshift to become invisible; he wasn’t sure how Lena concealed herself, but both vanished and circled back to Allen and Ruby.
“Old man, who do you think you are, meddling in my business? You must be tired of living!” Victor Bai roared, furious that the elder dared step in.
“You aren’t qualified to know who I am. Even Dominic Bai would show me respect. Do you really think no one in Azure Moon City dares touch you? If you lay a hand on those two today, I won’t be polite. Try me if you don’t believe it.” the elder replied coolly.
Evan and Lena reached Allen and Ruby’s side and transmitted quietly, “Come with us. Don’t be alarmed—we’re here to save you!”
Allen felt strange—he heard the voice right at his ear, but saw no one, so he couldn’t help glancing around. “Stop looking—we’re right beside you. We’ll help you escape Azure Moon City, but whether you get away depends on your own luck.”
Allen and Ruby immediately got to their feet. Meanwhile, Victor Bai was humiliated by the elder’s words—he could tell the elder’s aura surpassed God-King, maybe even God-Emperor. Such a powerhouse could crush him with one hand.
But as the City Lord’s son, his pride wouldn’t let him back down. In a flash, he lunged at Allen and Ruby. At the same time, Evan and Lena each grabbed one of them and dashed toward the city gate.
Evan’s cultivation wasn’t as high as Lena’s, but his speed was no less. On the road to Azure Moon City he’d already shown it. The two of them carried Allen and Ruby, leaving only blurred afterimages as they vanished from sight.
The elder saw Allen and Ruby escape and smiled to himself. “Didn’t expect two kids to step up—gotta meet these righteous youngsters. There aren’t many like them these days!”
With a flicker, he disappeared into the crowd—eerily fast. Victor Bai, meanwhile, was livid; he hadn’t expected Allen and Ruby to escape right under his nose. “What are you all standing around for? After them!” he roared.
