Shadow Saves General Roland

1/19/2026

Seeing Roland Lowell collapse, Evan Chu immediately rushed to support him, his heart filled with worry. If the Heavenly Dragon Empire’s Great General really died here, then the Sea Dragon Empire might well win this war.

“Dad! You can’t leave me behind!” Rowena Luo cried out as she saw Roland Lowell’s breath growing weaker, looking as if he was about to die right after Mason Ma’s execution.

She threw herself into Roland’s arms, sobbing bitterly—her grief was so intense it could break anyone’s heart.

Evan glanced at Selena, hoping she might have a way to help. Selena understood instantly but could only shake her head helplessly, indicating she had no solution.

Gavin Wei stood by, at a loss for words. The atmosphere was thick with sorrow.

A sudden thought struck Evan. He hurriedly called out to Sword Spirit Luna: “Luna, do you have any way to save General Roland? He can’t die—if he does, the Heavenly Dragon Empire is finished!”

“I can’t help either. The poison in him is extremely rare. If I were at my full strength, it would be nothing, but right now I’m just a soul—there’s nothing I can do,” Luna replied instantly, fully understanding Evan’s anxiety.

“So I just have to watch him die in front of me? I’m really useless—I can’t even save him,” Evan said, dejected.

“Just because you can’t save him doesn’t mean someone else can’t. You really are too caught up in it to see clearly,” Luna said.

Evan’s eyes lit up at Luna’s words. “Quick, tell me who! He can’t afford any more delay!”

“Heh, did you forget about your little brother, the Bloodshadow Berserker Lion? Remember when you were poisoned by the Hellwing Centipede—it was Shadow who saved you. The Bloodshadow Berserker Lion can devour anything.”

This man’s poisoning is far too severe. With Shadow’s current power, he might only be able to keep him alive for now—restoring his strength instantly won’t be easy,” Luna explained.

“Shadow, that’s right—Shadow! Haha!” Evan Chu suddenly burst out laughing, unable to hold it in.

Rowena glared at Evan. “My dad’s on the verge of death and you’re laughing? What kind of person are you? I thought you were a friend, but you’re just a disappointment.”

Selena and Gavin Wei also looked at Evan in confusion, not understanding why he was laughing at such a time.

“Rowena, don’t be mad. I have my reasons for laughing—I have a way to save your dad!” Evan said with a smile.

“Are you serious? You’re not lying to me?” Rowena, clinging to hope, asked anxiously.

“Would I joke about something like this? Just trust me,” Evan replied.

Selena and Gavin were even more shocked, staring at Evan to see how he could possibly save someone so close to death.

Knowing the three were watching him, Evan said, “I need you all to keep this secret for me—I don’t want anyone else to find out.”

The three nodded, watching him quietly. Selena, however, was deeply shocked—this guy really has too many secrets. No wonder he’s destined to be the savior.

Evan Chu focused his mind and instantly summoned Shadow. Now, Shadow’s body was the size of a water buffalo. He appeared, looking rather unwilling, and grumbled, “Boss, I was just sleeping—why’d you call me out?”

Shadow’s sudden appearance startled the three. None of them expected Evan to have a magical beast appear out of nowhere—it was unbelievable, except for Selena, who had already seen the contract markings on Evan’s body.

Especially since this magical beast could talk—it completely overturned Gavin and Rowena’s understanding. This was their first time seeing a beast that could speak.

Selena studied the beast, sensing an ancient aura from him. Seeing his size, she was suddenly alarmed: “Could this be an ancient sacred beast? That’s terrifying—Evan can actually make an ancient beast recognize him as master. Who is he, really?”

Evan scolded Shadow, “Cut the crap—I only call you out when there’s something important. Can’t you see the man on the ground is dying from poison? You’re here to detoxify him.”

“Boss, I knew it—nothing good ever happens when you call me out!” Shadow complained.

“How about the taste of Mystic Ice Toad and Flame Spider? Wasn’t that a good thing?” Evan teased.

“Alright, Boss, don’t worry. I’ll detoxify him right away. No need to get mad—I was just joking!” Shadow said, then walked over to Roland Lowell.

Selena and the others felt like they were hearing a fairy tale—a lion-like magical beast that could detoxify poison? It was unbelievable. The three of them stayed silent, watching intently.

Shadow looked at Roland and said, "Boss, this guy's been poisoned too deeply. I can only save his life—he'll need to rest for a while before his strength comes back, so don't blame me if he's out of commission!"

"I know, just get started! If you wait any longer, he'll be dead!" Evan urged anxiously.

A flash of red light burst from Shadow's body, and a suffocating, awe-inspiring pressure filled the air, sending chills down everyone's spine.

Shadow's body began to grow, swelling until he became a giant lion as large as a small mountain. The deafening roar he unleashed shook the skies.

Shadow lowered his head to look at Roland, then opened his enormous jaws. An immense suction erupted, whipping up a fierce windstorm—dirt and dust instantly filled the air.

Roland's body was instantly sucked into Shadow's belly, leaving Rowena, Selena, and Gavin frozen in fear at the sight.

Only Evan remained expressionless—he'd been through this himself and knew there was nothing to worry about.

Rowena cried out, "Evan, why did your spirit beast swallow my father? Is he in danger?"

Evan shot Rowena a look. "If he was in danger, how could we get rid of the poison? This is Shadow's special skill—stop freaking out, okay? Your dad will be fine soon!"

Rowena looked at Evan, half convinced, half doubtful. If Shadow really could remove the poison, her father's wounds wouldn't be fatal. Right now, it was a desperate gamble—betting everything on a slim chance.

Selena walked over to Evan and asked, "Lin Feng, what kind of spirit beast is this? I sense an ancient aura—could it really be an ancient spirit beast?"

Evan chuckled. "Nothing gets past you, huh? Shadow is a descendant of the ancient Bloodshadow Berserker Lion. His bloodline is special—he can directly evolve into a sacred beast-level spirit beast."

Selena's face changed. "This spirit beast is a Bloodshadow Berserker Lion? Impossible! I've never seen one myself, but I know this ancient spirit beast was wiped out in the War of the Gods. How did you get it?"

"I'll explain later. For now, Shadow should be almost done detoxifying the Great General. Let's see how he's doing first," Evan said.

Just then, Shadow's massive body flashed red again. He opened his jaws wide and spat Roland out, who landed quietly on the ground. The blackish hue on Roland's face was gone—replaced by a pale complexion...
