Am I Really That Foolish

Chancellor Evans looked up, a faint smile playing on her lips as she gazed at Sean Hayes. "Sean, do I really seem that clueless to you?"

Sean Hayes was momentarily stunned, but the Female Supervisor beside him spoke up first. "General Sean, don't be anxious. Chancellor Evans was just tricking those female workers earlier. That button isn't for controlling the machine at all, nor is it any sort of critical button."

"Oh! So Chancellor Evans said it on purpose for the female workers to hear, just to let that spy know?" Sean Hayes's face lit up with sudden understanding, then grew puzzled again. "So, what does that button actually do? What happens if someone presses it?"

Even the Female Supervisor shook her head. "I... I don't know either. Ever since that machine arrived, it's just been sitting there. I have no idea what it's for—no one's ever turned it on..."

Then, both the Female Supervisor and Sean Hayes turned their puzzled gazes toward Chancellor Evans.

Chancellor Evans smiled mysteriously and took a sip of tea. "Today, we deliberately spread the rumor that the warehouse fire was caused by a toppled candlestick, so the spy thinks her arson went completely unnoticed. Right now, she's probably feeling smug and eager to sabotage the machinery again. My guess is, by the end of today, you'll know exactly what that button does... Tsk tsk, just wait and see!"

Chancellor Evans's confident demeanor gave both Sean Hayes and the Female Supervisor a boost of courage.

At the same time, both were extremely curious. If Chancellor Evans really used that mysterious button as bait, what would happen if someone actually pressed it?

Chancellor Evans spent the entire day at the Textile Works, clearly taking this batch of goods very seriously—she intended to personally supervise for several days.

The Textile Works had staff dormitories for night shifts, and the Female Supervisor arranged a room for Chancellor Evans.
