This Is the Saboteur

It was late at night, but Sean Hayes and the Female Supervisor in Lily Evans' room were still wide awake. They'd discovered this game Su Li taught them—"Playing Cards"—was surprisingly fun. The more they played, the less sleepy they felt, and before they knew it, it was already this late.

Su Li won a round, and while Sean Hayes was shuffling the deck, she glanced up at the Factory Building.

Inside, the lights blazed brightly and the hum of machines filled the air. Everything seemed peaceful and calm.

Sean Hayes looked over as well and asked Su Li, "Lady Chancellor, how will we know if the spy has made a move?"

Su Li smiled slightly. "Just watch the lights. If they flicker, it means the spy has acted."

As soon as Su Li finished speaking, Sean Hayes and the Female Supervisor both turned to look at the Factory Building. At this moment, it was shining brightly, with nothing out of the ordinary.

But in the blink of an eye, the lights in the Factory Building suddenly flickered several times before quickly returning to normal.

A look of delight appeared on Su Li's face. She immediately stood up and headed for the Factory Building. "The spy has been exposed!"

Sean Hayes and the Female Supervisor quickly followed her.

The three of them entered the Factory Building and were inside in no time. As soon as they stepped through the door, they saw that all the female workers looked pale with fright, screaming as they stared in the same direction.

It was just as Su Li had said—the spot with the critical button. From there, a woman's anguished cries echoed.

The air was thick with the smell of something burnt, like scorched meat.

Su Li led Sean Hayes and the Female Supervisor over. Sean glanced down, and with a startled yelp, jumped back in fright.

On the ground lay a charred, unrecognizable figure, but you could still make out a human shape.

That thing was emitting agonized screams, writhing in pain on the floor.

Next to the blackened figure, a water pouch had fallen to the ground, water spilling everywhere and dripping from the machine above.

"That's the spy," said Su Li calmly, gazing at the person rolling on the ground. "The one who tried to burn down the warehouse. Female Supervisor, come here and see if you recognize her."

The Female Supervisor was so frightened she nearly lost control. She'd never seen anyone burned like this before and was too scared to move.

One of the braver Female Workers went over and turned the burned person over.

Now everyone could see clearly—the right arm of the burned person had been completely incinerated. The fire must have started from her right hand and, in an instant, engulfed her whole body.

Her face was half-burned, but the remaining half was just recognizable.

The Female Worker who recognized her looked at Chancellor Evans and said, "Chancellor Evans, this is Greta! Greta, the Female Worker who joined the factory with us!"

"Greta, tsk tsk." Su Li circled the writhing, pain-stricken Greta and shook her head. "Someone, take her away for interrogation. Don't let her disrupt the others' work."

Sean Hayes immediately had two men bring a large sheet, wrap Greta in it, and carry her out.

Su Li swept her gaze around the room, seeing all the Female Workers still shaken. She reassured them: "This Greta was a spy sent by the enemy. She tried to destroy the machines and the Textile Works, and brought this on herself. The spy's been dealt with, so you can work in peace—don't worry about losing your jobs. Everyone present must keep this secret. If a word gets out, you'll all be dismissed. But if you keep quiet, each of you will get a silver coin for your trouble tonight."
