Antler Serpent Is About to Lose Its Temper

"Huh? You keep an Antler Serpent as your spirit pet?" Bianca Whiteshire asked.

"Yep!"

"Ha!" Bianca Whiteshire chuckled. "Well, that's certainly interesting."

"It is pretty interesting," Grace agreed with a nod.

"That suddenly reminds me of something my father used to say," Bianca continued.

"What did he say?" Leon Zane asked her.

"You can judge a person by their spirit beast," Bianca said. "Basically, the kind of spirit beast you have tells you a lot about your personality and cultivation."

Leon Zane had a feeling that wasn't a compliment, so he kept quiet.

Unexpectedly, Bianca's maid Amber chimed in, "Miss, you can't use that saying on Miss Grace."

"Oh? Why not?" Bianca asked with a sly smile.

"The Antler Serpent is known as the weakest spirit beast. It can only scavenge leftovers from other beasts—so people say it's weak and humble! If you judge someone by their spirit beast, doesn't that mean Miss Grace is weak and humble too?"

Leon Zane sucked in a breath and quickly snapped, "Shut up! This isn't your place to speak!"

Amber was startled and dropped to her knees. "I spoke out of turn! I deserve punishment!"

Bianca Whiteshire just shrugged. "Cousin, why make such a fuss? Did Amber say anything wrong? Isn't the Antler Serpent weak and humble?"

Leon Zane hesitated, glancing at General Evan Xiao. He couldn't say yes or no.

"Miss Grace, you're not going to get mad over a careless remark, are you?" Bianca raised her brows at Grace.

Grace just chuckled and focused on her food, saying nothing.

For Shannon's sake, she held back!

"So, why do you keep an Antler Serpent as your spirit pet, Miss Grace?" Bianca pressed, seeing Grace as easy to bully.

"It's very smart," Grace replied.

"Smart?" Bianca Whiteshire picked up a piece of Antler Serpent meat with her chopsticks and took a bite. "How smart?"

Grace said, "It understands human speech and has human-like feelings."

"Really? That's pretty rare," Bianca remarked. "I've never seen an Antler Serpent that understands people! Why don't you bring it here and show me, Miss Grace?"

"Yeah!" Amber piped up cheerfully, "If you kill it and eat it, do you think it'll cry and beg for mercy?"

Grace shot them a glare.

That pair—mistress and maid—mocked her and her Cutie Pie so smoothly, it was like they practiced.

On the other side, Leon Zane was getting anxious. When Amber mentioned killing Cutie Pie for food, he finally snapped. With a bang, he slammed his chopsticks on the table, face darkening. "Amber, you're out of line again! Wait outside! Don't come back in!"

This time, his tone was especially harsh.

Seeing her cousin furious, Bianca didn't dare say another word.

Amber's expression turned ugly as she muttered, "Yes," and walked out.

"Wait." A calm but chilling voice rang out, making everyone's heart skip a beat.

Leon Zane rubbed his forehead.

The Antler Serpent was about to lose its temper...

Amber, confused, paused and looked at Evan Xiao.

Evan Xiao spun a cup in his hand, then looked up at Amber. "You said... Grace's Antler Serpent is weak and humble?"

Amber answered, neither servile nor overbearing, "General, I didn't mean to offend Miss Grace. I was only talking about the Antler Serpent."

"And you still want to kill her Antler Serpent for food?"

"I just wanted to see if the Antler Serpent really is as Miss Grace said—capable of understanding humans," Amber replied.
